National General initially seemed like…they were going to be a good company to do business with, but it turned out shady.

National General initially seemed like a reliable company when I first started my policy. However, over time, my fees increased after they claimed my policy had been canceled. When it was reinstated, I was charged one amount, but later, my monthly bill increased again. They explained that this was due to my reinstatement fee being lower than it should have been and also incorrectly claimed that my checking account had insufficient funds. As a result, I stopped automatic payments and began making payments online or through a representative because they were withdrawing funds on random days instead of my scheduled payment date. Despite explaining that I had switched to manual payments, they continued to provide incorrect information. I even offered to pull up my bank statements to show the discrepancies.

Another issue occurred when the company canceled my insurance for non-payment, even though my bill had been paid in full. When I spoke with a representative, he initially couldn’t find my payment. However, after I provided my bank statement and an email confirmation from their company, he suddenly "found" my policy but was unsure why it had been canceled. He claimed it was a computer glitch. Based on my experience, I feel this insurance company is disorganized and does not know how to properly conduct business.

This company is a zero

This company is a zero! I do not have insurance from them, I do not do business with them, nor care about them, however, some scoundrel allowed my debit card to be illegally used by this company for some even bigger scoundrel to acquire insurance. Here's the deal folks, when a company knows that they don't have a customer, and charges a card for a joe blow stealing money or someones identity, they are just as gross in my book. DO NOT DO BUSINESS with identity stealers!

Bank account drafted well after cancelling policy

I cancelled my home and auto policies 10 days before their renewal date. Cancellation notices were issued. To my shock I found that my bank account was drafted more than $3k for their renewal anyway. I’m told it will be 15 days minimum before they can correct their error and issue my refund. As I read other reviews this seems to be a common practice for this company.

National General Insurance-Beware

hello. I received notice in November 2024 that National General was cancelling my insurance (i do have a screenshot) i was forced to find and alternative and when i did-i notified NG and ceased policy a week before NG ended my policy. NG only refunded me $50. this should have been a $125 refund (i only had this ins for 2 months (12.50 per month=$25) this is not my fault for cancellation. NG cancelled me and I am entitled to full refund of $125. * please note cancellation by them was due to them not wanting to insure LSV’s. not due to claims (as there were zero)

UPDATE: National General reached out and did correct my refund properly. Im sorry it had to come to internet shaming but am very happy they communicated and did the right thing and I thank those involved.

National General Poor Service, Horrible Claim & Sky High Premiums

A Auto Claim was filed and NG took weeks to decide if they were going to repair or total the car. Ultimately they chose to Total the car and that is when the lowballing with inaccurate appraisals and delay tactics started. Lucky for us we have a friend who is Very High up with the Scottsdale Police Dept who told us we were able to hire an independent appraiser which we were forced to do since NG initial offer was so low. Then after hiring our own appraiser NG refused to speak or negotiate with us directly and were again forced to spend more money to hire an Attorney to negotiate on our behalf. After almost (1) month went by our settlement went up by $5000.00 over their initial low ball offer. Stay Away from National General

Insurance was cheap through these guys…

Insurance was cheap through these guys for me. It's just that I sold my vehicle with 4 months left on my fully paid off policy. I called the main hotline and spoke with a call center representative who was kind and helpful. They couldn't get ahold of my agent at first so they told me that if I cancel my policy through them they will have to charge me like $35 for the service fee, but if I go through my agent I won't have to pay it or at least not as much as they charge. So I went through my agent who I haven't spoken to in years once they got ahold of him, only for him to take half my refund money, 2 months of insurance, for his service fee for being on the phone with me for literally 5 minutes. I know he's got to make money also but taking 2 months worth for his service fee is just greedy and ridiculous. It's clear he didn't give a care in the world about a loyal hardworking client for over 5 years, just with collecting one last payment from me as fast as he could before I moved on. I have always been on time and paid in advance for years with these guys. Just sucks to be taken advantage of on the way out. Thanks burbank office! Went from a 5 in my experience to a 1.

Fraudulent and misleading

Fraudulent, incompetent, no communication. The absolute worst!!!! Sales Agents tell you one thing, customer service reps and CHAT line tell you something different and are useless. National General and Direct Auto stay away from.

This is absolutely the WORST insurance…

This is absolutely the WORST insurance company I’ve ever had in my 46 years of living. I was reluctant to even go with them because I’ve never heard of them. I had a recent increase with State Farm due to a teen driver and was shopping around and found them. I wish I never did and I should have trusted my gut. After my insurance was written they forced all of my drivers to use an app but didn’t tell me anything about this app until after I paid. Mikayla the person who wrote the policy was crazy calling me day and night to get the policy started. I felt very pressured by her, but never heard from her again after that. You are basically left hung out to dry with this company. The customer service is terrible and they don’t know anything ever when you call or email. I’ve had them for about three months and now today I get a letter of cancellation. The reasons in the letter are they think I have a wood stove, which I don’t. I have a gas fireplace like most people, my swimming pool is an issue apparently but they have no reason why. I have a five foot tall chain link fenced in back yard with two locking gates and live in the country. This is such a ridiculous company to deal with. You are a number to them and nothing else. I would strongly advise NOT going with this company.

National General Nightmare

Wow. Couldn't believe all the bad reviews on Trust Pilot...wish my husband had read them before insuring with them. Had a brand new $130,000.00 Airstream insured with them. A hit and run happened in August...now they will not pay up saying all that damage could not have happened after just being struck by another car. We were going 55 m.p.h on a 4 lane Interstate when "BAAAM!". We thought it was a blow-out...the sound was so loud. But this was on a brand new (well, 6 month old) Airstream, so that was really unlikely. Of course the non-English speaking family (a man, about 5'6' maybe 150 lbs. in a while shirt and dark pants, a woman in a headdress--it was really quite pretty, maybe from Nigeria, a little boy and a girl), they sure understood "POLICE" when I said I needed to call them. We were so distraught after almost flipping and being killed, that I didn't even have my phone on me--and they just took off while my husband was assessing damage on the Airstream. Now National General won't pay...I just cannot believe this nightmare. We will get a lawyer. I'm sick of big companies taking advantage of little people.

my bill pay was one day late paying, or national general waited to deposit, which ever cost me over $100. one day. be aware, these people will cheat you

Put my SUV into a road sign and pole to…

Put my SUV into a road sign and pole to avoid damage and harm to others when I had a medical emergency. I was told they won't pay the tow yard and repairs. I have this accident as my only since 1975. I didn't want to damage or harm anyone and save money. I am now going to loose $3000 value of SUV. Have to sign it over to tow yard. Sucks Donkey dick!

Ridiculously priced

I had no encounters with this insurance the entire year I got it after my prior insurance company did an insane rate increase. When my renewal came up this year they raised my homeowners and auto combined rate $1800! I have been in once accident in my life, and I was not at fault and my insurance was reimbursed by the other individual. I have a 800 credit score and a perfect driving record. Insurance companies in general are screwing over Americans while raking in record profits.

AVOID THIS COMPANY!! ALL THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS ABOUT THIS COMPANY ARE 100% TRUE! THE ADJUSTER WILL IGNORE YOUR CALLS FOR AS LONG AS THEY CAN UNTIL YOU GIVE UP SO THEY WONT COVER ANY COSTS. ITS VERY FRUSTRATING!!! ITS ALWAYS THE ANSWERING MACHINE THAT ANSWERS CALLS EVEN THE SUPERVISOR OF THE ADJUSTER SEEMS TO NOT BE AROUND ALL DAY AND ONLY HIS ANSWERING MACHINE WILL ANSWER. THE ADJUSTER IS VERY RUDE AND WILL JUST HANG UP WHEN SHE WANTS. THEY DONT INITIATE EFFORT TO RESOLVE THE CLAIM. IT WILL ALWAYS BE US,THE CLIENTS, WHO WILL MAKE AN EFFORT TO CALL THEM SO THERE WILL BE SOME MOVEMENT TO YOUR CLAIM!!!

Nightmare…

We are in an accident on April the 2nd 2024 and it's been a nightmare ever since everybody shot that we went to didn't want to work with this company so they sent us to this chop shop that has chopped our vehicle up and it looks like s*** we've been there five times to get it resolved they mess up the rental car was never there to pick us up twice and the workmanship on the vehicle is very disappointing and I can't get anywhere with the agent that is handling this case it feels like they don't give a rat's ass about you and they're going to pay you what they want to pay and right now my turn signal on the back side of my vehicle does not work it rattles the bed is bent and now they're wanting to go back to the shop again to get the same work done again they won't change the outcome there's so much to say I give up

I'm a National General Insurance…

UPDATE: Because National General never helped this man with the claim, he lawyered up and now instead of looking at maybe paying out 2k for a plastic bumper, they're looking at potentially paying the maximum 10K + in addition to myself possibly being sued because the lawyer, months later, is now pushing an injury claim, as ambulance chasing lawyers typically do!!! These people suck to a dangerous level. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

I'm a National General Insurance customer. I read a review on here regarding an individual who was rear ended by someone with NG insurance and being unable to have the claim settled due to total negligence of the claims adjuster/department. Reading this person's review, I almost thought it was an individual that I rear ended in May due to the uncanny similarities. However, when I realized that this was another individual going through roughly the same experience I felt compelled to post this. I myself rear ended a gentleman at a light in May. Since I was at fault, I went ahead and made the claim. Getting ahold of the claims adjuster, Ivani "Ivy", that was assigned to me was harder than sighting a flying unicorn farting rainbows. She's a virtually non-existent person. On the one occasion I finally did get ahold of her, I gave my statement, I was at fault and that was that. The gentleman who was hit, was NEVER able to get ahold of her. He finally received a letter dated several days before he received it, that if he didn't reply to the letter by the day BEFORE he received it his case would be closed! Of course, I'm getting the "blow-by-blow" from him via text messages on a regular basis, trying to work with him to get this resolved. So, as a customer of NG, I can only imagine the hell I would have to go through to settle a claim if something happened to MY car. In short, NG is good for one thing and one thing only, satisfying the legal requirement to have your car insured--that's it. Nothing else. If you have a junker car that you don't care about, NG is a good option. If you have a car you value--look elsewhere. And God help the people who get hit by a driver with NG insurance--I say that as an NG customer!

Will not return calls or emails

I was rear-ended by someone insured with National General and per the police report their insured is at fault. The accident occurred on 6/14 and I have been trying to get in touch with the claims adjuster since 6/25 and have been completely ignored. On 6/25 I was forwarded to claims adjuster's office from the main claims line listed on NG's website. A receptionist answered and stated that the insured had already started a claim and that NG did not have any information for me, they did not ask for my statement or any additional info. I asked to speak with claims adjuster directly, was told by the receptionist that she was available and was transferred to her direct line. The line rang 3 times and then sent me to voice mail. I left a message with the claim number, my name and contact info and requested the claims adjuster contact me as soon as possible so I can have my car repaired. An hour passed and I had not heard back so I called back, again no one answered, and I was sent to voicemail. Instead of leaving a second voice mail, I got the claims adjuster 's email address that was listed in her voice mail and sent her a detailed email regarding the claim. As of 7/1, I have not heard back. I attempted to call again, and no one answered so I left another VM and followed it up with another email. I called the main claims line to speak with a rep regarding the fact that no one will return my calls or emails and they took down my info and said they have requested someone reach out to me but told me they are unable to provide an ETA. I am entitled to file a claim for damage sustained to my vehicle during the accident caused by their insured directly through them, but I cannot do so if they are unwilling to return my calls or emails. I have already visited a repair shop and they have an estimate for the repairs.
