I am a used car dealer and have been a loyal customer over 30 years. My policy renewed in Sept 2025. Around Feb of 2026 they raised my rate over 100%. Asking for an explanation I found an error in the audit. After documenting the error I was told they would not adjust the premium. Now the are coming after me for over $4,000 retroactive to 2025.

Auto owners gave me 23 days to make costly repairs or lose my coverage. All were cosmetic and not bad. I'm in MI. How can they do this?
Very Happy!
I spoke with Ashley, you really could not ask for more prompt response and service.
Owners Auto Insurance Company contacted us the same day we called with our claim.
The adjuster was out the very next day!
Everything was resolved within the week!😊

I used to brag about Auto owners insurance company. But no more. My house insurance went from 1047 yo over 1400 in a year then another 103 this year.a 50% rate hike in 2 years. Every time i get my car insurance its a 100 more. Im retired and paying the same payment I paid them when my daughter got ger license. After auto reform dropped payments they have shot through the roof. No tickets no accidents but paying drunk driver insurance rates.
I’m writing to express my distaste for their business
I’m writing to express my disappointment with Auto-Owners Insurance following a series of claims and the way our account was handled afterward. Over the past several years we experienced: (1) a collision in which we were not at fault, (2) an accident where my wife struck a deer that ran into the roadway, and (3) a minor incident where our 7-year-old opened a car door and accidentally nicked a nearby vehicle.
After these events, we were dropped, and our homeowners insurance premium increased dramatically—by nearly $3,000 per year—from approximately $2,200 to over $5,900. While I understand that insurers evaluate risk and adjust pricing, the outcome felt disproportionate given the circumstances, particularly the not-at-fault collision and the deer strike.
Most concerning was the lack of clear, timely communication. We did not receive adequate explanation of the decisions being made, what options were available to us, or what to expect next. The process was frustrating and left us feeling unsupported at a time when we needed straightforward guidance.
Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Auto-Owners to anyone who values transparent communication and fair, consistent treatment after filing claims.
Super expensive rates for 2026
Super expensive rates for 2026. Georgia allows them to increase their policies to the max. And when you submit a claim they do their best not to pay for it.
I only used them one year because of our agent. But just dropped them and so with the agent. They must be getting a GOOD kickback!
Auto owner insurance is the worst
Auto owner insurance is the worst insurance company to ever work with, between the insurance adjuster I have had to deal with Natalie. She said they are not at fault for an accident so had to hire an attorney just to get them to take responsibility for the accident, on top of that my truck finally got sent to a body shop 11 months later. Once it got to the body shop now they are refusing to fix certain things and trying to fix a 90k pickup half ass so hands down worst company to deal with and they lie out there teeth so they don’t have to pay for anything. So for a heads up if you have to deal with this insurance company be prepared to get a attorney and be without it for a yr or longer.

An HOA board of Director submitted a claim for coverage under the commercial general liability policy, and they denied coverage claiming his his actions were personal in nature. The claims adjuster never consulted with the board member to determine his her statement of facts
I have had doubling my insurancebusiness insurance with Auto…
I have had business insurance with Auto Owners for 10 years. I moved here 10 years ago as a self employed painter. My yearly insurance was 300 and went up 3 dollars each year. THIS Year??? It went to 600. No explanation. I have never had a claim on this policy. I have always paid in full on time. Great way to lose someone’s business. Corporate greed at its best
Awful insurance
Awful insurance, always hiking up prices to faten their pockets. They stink as a company and as human beings thumbs down. Don't do business with them. They are not the cheapest. They look to cancel your insurance for anything even if you only pay half. They look for reasons.
A Cautionary Tale with Auto-Owners Insurance
I am writing this review as a long-standing customer of Auto-Owners Insurance to detail a severely negative claims experience following a hit-and-run incident. I highly recommend potential customers rethink using this company based on the lack of support, communication issues, and unprofessional handling of my claim.
Date of Incident: March 26, 2024
The Incident:
My 2016 Corvette, in perfect condition, was struck by another vehicle while legally parked in a designated spot. The driver, an 85-year-old woman, fled the scene. A witness fortunately left a note with the vehicle’s license plate number.
Failure of the Adjuster (Gina Marcantonio):
Upon contacting Auto-Owners, I was assigned Claim Adjuster Gina Marcantonio. Her handling of the claim was entirely inadequate from day one.
* Refusal to Investigate: When I provided the witness's note with the license plate number, Gina dismissed it as "not a serious thing" and refused to use that information to identify the at-fault driver.
* Independent Investigation Required: It took me over a month to perform the adjuster’s job: I identified the driver, found her address, located her insurance information, obtained the police report, secured body cam footage from the detective, and even found video of the incident. Without my independent work, Auto-Owners would not have been able to pursue subrogation (recouping damages).
* Misinformation Provided: Before my car even went in for repairs, Gina provided false information to the at-fault driver's insurance adjuster, stating my repairs only amounted to $2500 and that I was "fully paid." This directly caused delays and issues with the other insurer making their payments.
The Repair and Payment Dispute:
The total cost for the primary and secondary damages verified by the repair shop was $7159.45, which I paid entirely out of pocket in good faith that my insurer would reimburse me.
Despite the shop manager speaking to Gina multiple times to confirm that all damages were related to the accident and that I had paid in full, Gina continued to insist I would not be paid the full amount. The shop manager even called her while I was present to verify that I was a customer and had incurred the full expense.
Failure of Leadership and Executive Team:
When standard channels failed, I escalated the issue to management. The response was dismissive and unhelpful.
* Chris Khavari, the Claims Department Manager, explicitly stated that "nobody in the company cares" and that he couldn't be told what to do about this injustice.
* I contacted multiple executive office members (Lynette, Garry ext. 55540, Amber Senken, Sydney ext. 55539, and Ali ext. 59265). Every single contact lied, changed their story, and refused to honor my legitimate claim.
Conclusion:
Instead of thanking a long-time client for doing their investigative work for them, Auto-Owners has ripped me off, lied to me, and refused to pay for damages I am entitled to under my policy. This company demonstrates a shocking lack of accountability and customer care. I strongly advise against trusting them with your assets.
Auto-Owners/Atlantic Casualty Insurance…
Auto-Owners/Atlantic Casualty Insurance Company is predatory, they sent me an audit notice saying that if I didn’t give them a record of every single payment that I made to my subcontractors last year, they would charge me an additional 50% premium. No where in the documentation that I read, when I applied, does it say that I need to provide them with this information. They only give me less than 30 days to pay it or be sent to collections. My broker said that I am well within the amount that we projected that I would utilize subcontractors for 2024. I have been in business for 15 years and every other insurance company that I have dealt with has only asked for the industry standard, gross receipts for the total subcontractor amount, which is what I gave them. Their auditor even said that gross receipts would be sufficient, see attached email. This is obviously a bait and switch scheme, crafted by Auto-Owners/Atlantic Casualty Insurance Company, that prays on small businesses that don’t have the staff to give them that information. I am the only employee of my company and I don’t have the bandwidth to go through every single payment I made to my subcontractors last year. They did not say that this was a condition of the policy when I signed up with them. This is an erroneous charge and they need reverse it.
Amazing customer service and good adjusters
Used Auto-Owner's for storm damage claims on 2 properties, over $25k each. They were responsive, considerate, and easy to communicate with. Metlife/Farmers- complete opposite experience- a flipping disaster. Farmers adjuster became known as Vinny "The Dead Guy" by my roofer and me. Took weeks to try and locate and talk with the guy. Then getting paid was troublesome as well.
However Auto-Owner's was a totally different story! Dylan Herron and Greg Larsen are AWESOME adjusters. Greg got us adjusted and paid in 2 days time for a claim we submitted the day prior! Unbelievable service and helped us to close the sale of one of the properties on-time! Thank you Greg and Dylan! --K.C. Dietz
Hard Time and not cooperating by honoring their policy
The company sated that my contractor did not follow the plans and are not cooperating. In Auto Insurance, the company fixes the car and they go after the other insrance. They are twisting the truth.
The worst!
I am a local contractor that works for a reputable national brand retailer. I have been dealing with storm damage claims all year In the Omaha and Lincoln area. I have worked with every major insurance company in the market. Auto owners insurance is the worst! This company will deny valid claims and tell customers to use third-party vendors for replacement products. This company will go out of their way to not pay out on a claim, even if there was substantial damage. If you are shopping for a new policy or have this company as your insurer and have never filed a claim…run away!!
Auto Owners-Scammers
Having been in the Commercial Insurance world for many years as an executive, this is one of the most unethical companies I have experienced. Their claims team is unprofessional and lazy. None of their managers answer or return calls. I would avoid this company at all costs.
Avoid Auto-Owners at all cost
I recently had a frustrating experience with Auto-Owners Insurance that I feel compelled to share. First and foremost, my dealings with Auto-Owners Insurance have been my worst experience with any company to date. If you are not a policyholder, be prepared for a frustrating battle, even if they initially accept fault in an accident.
To summarize my ordeal:
Date of Loss: July 11, 2024
Towing and Rental Car Assistance Denied: July 24, 2024
No Resolution or Compromise on Claim: October 11, 2024
Despite them taking responsibility for the accident, I faced endless delays and a lack of communication. I reached out multiple times for updates, only to receive the same generic response: "Still processing claim with all involved." It felt like a deliberate attempt to drag out the process and avoid accountability.
My frustration reached a peak as I recognized their tactics of delay and non-responsiveness. I've now decided to take my grievances directly to their policyholder, as it seems that’s the only way to get any traction.
I typically don't write negative reviews, but I felt compelled to expose the lack of integrity and terrible customer service I experienced. After an unfortunate accident, I expected a smooth claims process. However, what I encountered was a lengthy and convoluted ordeal. The claims representative assigned to my case was difficult to reach and often unresponsive. It took days to get any updates, and when I did, the information was often vague or inconsistent. My interactions were primarily with Brittany P. from their Tallahassee office, and I’m unsure if her incompetence is indicative of the entire company culture or just an isolated incident.
The total disrespect and disregard for my situation left me astonished. While they may have saved a few dollars on my end, I suspect that their long-term reputation will suffer due to the way they conduct business. If you're considering Auto-Owners Insurance, proceed with caution—this company may not have your best interests at heart.
have pulse, will hire
Pray no driver with this insurance ever hits your car. It's never a good sign when no one has heard of it. The Greenville, SC claims center of this company excels at mediocrity and incompetence. A pulse must be the only requirement to work here or be a manager. You get lots of practice listening to unprofessional voicemails (ie."if you're calling between 12pm and 2pm, I'm at lunch. ") No one, including managers, ever returns calls. They are obviously trained not to answer the phone and only communicate via email. It takes multiple days to complete even the most basic steps of the process, such as getting a rental car. They treat you as if you're at fault instead of their insured. You're probably better off filing with your own insurance and letting them deal with it.
This company is exactly that unethical…
This company is exactly that unethical , they have a customer that has a surety bond with them this bond covers anything the company may do like fraud , dishonesty , selling salvage vehicles without notifying the buyer , and by this business sackett Motorsport posting this item had never gone through an insurance company then sending me a salvage titled frame , that’s fraud and should have been paid out to me , but these dishonest pieces of dog dung denied my claim . If you are gonna get insurance stay away from these guys no matter how good it looks , no matter how bad you are hurting to stay compliant with the laws do not use this companies services , avoid these guys like the plague , yeah they will pay out some claims because I’m sure the law has a percentage they have to payout but do you really wanna take a chance that these guys auto owners insurance are gonna pay ? ? Your life and the lives of your loved ones are worth more then the savings you will get by purchasing insurance here , when it comes to auto owners insurance ….just say “NO THANK YOU !”
This is an unethical company
