was charged a 10% fee to cancel the policy

was charged a 10% fee to cancel the total policy amount on a recreational vehicle. So if the policy was 700.00 it is a 70.00 to cancel any time before the period ends. I was never made aware of this junk fee. will never use company of recommend it again. will also call good sam club who recommends this company to campers. I will also make sure it is known by writing a review on internet.

Beware of increase of premiums and no notification cancellations

It all started from the beginning, originally I had Allstate, through some glitch on their end they cancelled my policy. Allstate didn't notify me or my auto finance company. They said I couldn't reinstate my policy but that I could go with another company which at the time I didn't know they were part of Allstate. I asked for the senior rate at age 67 and military also. My wife and I are both military. I had automatic payments, I checked to see if they had made the payment and come to find out that they cancelled my policy without any notification to me. I have no idea when it happened or why. This is bad business, if I had tried to cancel my policy there would have been 500 questions as to why.

Great experience in correcting a policy issue

Today’s call outside of the 15min wait time was a very positive interaction.

Tuve mi auto estacionado y sin uso por varios meses, y aún así National General reportó a Florida que no tenía seguro, ¡cuando el vehículo ni siquiera estaba circulando! No solo fue un error grave, sino que además me generó problemas innecesarios con el estado.

No vuelvo a contratarles ni loca. Son descuidados, poco responsables y para colmo acusones. En lugar de ayudar, te hunden más. Hay muchas otras compañías que sí respetan y entienden a sus clientes.

No los recomiendo para nada. 👎

Η εμπειρία μου με την Εθνική Ασφαλιστική είναι το απόλυτο παράδειγμα για το πώς μια μεγάλη ασφαλιστική εταιρεία ακυρώνει στην πράξη την έννοια της ασφάλισης και προσβάλλει το δικαίωμα στην υγεία, ακόμη και ενός ανηλίκου.

Εδώ και 22 χρόνια πληρώνω ανελλιπώς ασφάλιστρα για εμένα και την οικογένειά μου, χωρίς ποτέ να ζητήσω αποζημίωση. Το παιδί μου, γεννημένο το 2010, ήταν ασφαλισμένο από το 2022. Ουδέποτε απασχόλησε την εταιρεία με ζήτηση κάλυψης. Ήταν και παραμένει υγιέστατο.

Το 2024, χωρίς καμία προηγούμενη προειδοποίηση, η Εθνική Ασφαλιστική αύξησε τα ασφάλιστρα, χωρίς καμία αιτιολόγηση. Όταν ζήτησα εξηγήσεις (με 3 email), δεν μου απάντησε κανείς. Όταν τελικά επικοινώνησαν μαζί μου, είχαν ήδη ακυρώσει μονομερώς το συμβόλαιο, χωρίς να μου δώσουν εναλλακτική επανενεργοποίησης. Έκανα επίσημη αίτηση επαναφοράς στην οποία κανένας δεν απάντησε ποτέ. Έμαθα εκ των υστέρων και αργά πλέον ότι προσπαθούν όλα τα ΠΑΛΙΑ ΙΣΟΒΙΑ συμβόλαια να τα ακυρώσουνε λυσσαλέα με κάθε ανήθικο και δόλιο τρόπο.

Αναγκάστηκα, όπως μου είπαν(πονηρά με καθοδήγησαν), να κάνω νέο συμβόλαιο το 2025, δηλώνοντας ρητά ότι ήταν συνέχεια του προηγούμενου. Το παιδί μου έκανε προληπτικά μία μαγνητική για ήπια ενόχληση, όπου δεν υπήρξε καμία διάγνωση. Δεν υποβλήθηκε σε θεραπεία, δεν πήρε φάρμακα, δεν διαπιστώθηκε καμία πάθηση. Και φυσικά δεν είχα υποχρέωση να δηλώσω “τίποτα”, γιατί δεν υπήρχε τίποτα να δηλωθεί.

Όταν το παιδί υπεβλήθη 3 μήνες μετά σε χειρουργική επέμβαση (απολύτως επιτυχής), η Εθνική Ασφαλιστική:

✅ Αρνήθηκε να καλύψει τα έξοδα
✅ Με κατηγόρησε εμμέσως ότι “απέκρυψα” ιστορικό (χωρίς ποτέ να το αποδείξει),
✅ Επιχείρησε να μου επιβάλει εκ των υστέρων περιοριστικό όρο 10ετούς αποκλεισμού,
✅ Και όταν αρνήθηκα να υπογράψω, κατήγγειλε το συμβόλαιο του παιδιού μου.

Μου εστάλη επίσημο έγγραφο με δικαστικό επιμελητή, που ακύρωνε μονομερώς το συμβόλαιο του ανήλικου τέκνου μου. Όλα αυτά μετα απο 22 έτην ασφαλισμένος και πληρωμένα όλα τα ασφάλιστρα. Όλα αυτά, χωρίς καμία αποζημίωση, χωρίς συζήτηση, χωρίς διάλογο.

Η Εθνική Ασφαλιστική έδειξε ότι δεν σέβεται την αρχή της καλής πίστης, ούτε την προστασία του καταναλωτή. Αποδεικνύει ότι όταν έρθει η ώρα της ευθύνης, θα ψάξει αφορμές να αποποιηθεί κάθε υποχρέωση. Για απλές επισκέψεις σε εξωτερικά ιατρεία και διαγνωστικούς ελέγχους όλα καλά. Αν πραγματικά χρειαστείτε εσείς ή η οικογενεία σας κάποια νοσηλεία απολύτως τίποτα. Αντί να προστατεύσει ένα ανήλικο παιδί – που πληρώνω για χρόνια – το εγκατέλειψε αβοήθητο, με ιατρικά έξοδα και χωρίς ίχνος ενσυναίσθησης.

Τους θεωρούσα αξιόπιστους. Πλέον δεν τους εμπιστεύομαι ούτε για... ασφάλεια κατοικιδίου.

🔴 Προειδοποιώ κάθε οικογένεια: διαβάστε τα "ψιλά γράμματα". Μην επαναπαύεστε. Η "πρώτη ασφαλιστική", όπως αυτοδιαφημίζονται, δεν είναι ούτε η πρώτη, ούτε η έντιμη επιλογή όταν θα τη χρειαστείτε πραγματικά.

Dishonest and unwilling to fix errors

This company said my premium was based on my TransUnion credit report which they say has:

Unfavorable: Full credit balance often not paid
Unfavorable: Credit card amount due often not paid
Unfavorable: No bankcards within last 10 mos
Unfavorable: Your outstanding credit card balance as compared to your total credit limit is greater than 10%
None of this was true. They told me i had to contact TransUnion to dispute it. I pulled my report and spoke on the phone with TU. NO DEROGATORIES on my report so there is nothing to dispute. They just continue to state that the report they pulled is correct and I need to dispute with TU. I filed a BBB complaint and provided the proof of my report and scores and they STILL say the same thing. BBB had to close the case as unresolved since the company just keeps repeating itself. This is what I found on the BBB site. National General is NOT a BBB Accredited company and they have had 1,898 total complaints in the last 3 years.
524 complaints closed in the last 12 months. Mine is closed but unresolved so closed does not mean the problem was fixed! Stay away from them. Shame on Allstate for having this company under their umbrella.

It took one month for them to decide…

It took one month for them to decide they were going to deny a claim. They shouldn't need more than a week.
No need to use these insurers anyway, since they're insurance in name only. They'll just deny you hoping you won't be able to hire a lawyer. Doesn't have to be a good reason, and they won't be punished for it in any way if it gets reversed.

🚨 CONSUMER BEWARE

🚨 CONSUMER BEWARE — Absolutely do not trust National General Insurance to handle your claim professionally or ethically.

We’ve spent over a month trying to resolve a simple reimbursement caused by an accident involving their insured. Despite following every step of their process, submitting all receipts and documentation, and calling daily, we were ignored, lied to, and spoken to with complete disrespect.

Their adjuster, Eric Fouts, repeatedly failed to return calls, hung up after placing us on hold for 40+ minutes, and was shockingly rude when he finally did respond. He refused to escalate the issue or provide a supervisor’s name. One of our own employees who spoke to him was appalled by how disrespectfully he treated her — we even have the call recordingto prove it.

We submitted:

✅ A $1,704 receipt for required re-lettering of a new work van

✅ A tow bill
Both were ignored or sent to the wrong address.

To make matters worse, the claims portal we were required to use was suddenly shut down, wiping out all of our submitted documents and history. This feels like an intentional move to avoid accountability — and from our experience, it sure looks like they’re covering their tracks.

We’ve now been forced to consider:

🚨 Hiring legal counsel

🔁 Subrogating the claim to our own insurer

📝 Filing formal complaints with the Department of Insurance and consumer protection agencies

This is not how insurance is supposed to work. We’re a small business trying to recover from an accident that their customer caused. If this is how they treat people with valid, documented claims, imagine what they’ll do with yours.

Think twice before trusting National General with your business or personal coverage.

We were in an accident in January with our truck-bed camper. We'd always paid our premiums on time — but when it came time for National General to hold up their end, they did everything they could to avoid paying.

First, they refused to cover the tow. Then they sent an adjuster who completely disregarded physics and offered a laughably low repair estimate — only 10% of the final payout — even though it was obviously totaled from the start. We demanded a second assessment. From there, it was a nightmare: endless runarounds, emotionless bureaucratic excuses, and no real action. Not only could we not get anywhere — the repair shops couldn’t either. One even emailed us: “She’s no good. She just talks in circles.”

We had to file a complaint with the Arizona Insurance Commission just to get traction — and even then, National General stalled as long as legally possible. They eventually demanded a title for the truck-bed camper — which we didn’t have because truck-bed campers don’t have titles. (You’d think an insurance company would know that.)

It took 4½ months of stress, delays, and hoop-jumping before they finally paid the fair market value for the totaled camper — which had been clear from the beginning.

I'm still not sure how this wasn’t illegal. Over and over, we were one inch away from lawyering up — but they kept stringing us along just enough to delay. It was emotionally exhausting, needlessly complicated, and completely avoidable.

DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!!!

I had a very disappointing experience…

I had a very disappointing experience with this company. Despite being insured with them, I became a victim of car theft. However, they made it incredibly difficult to file a claim, and the adjuster has not contacted me at all. I have been paying for my insurance, yet there has been no communication regarding the situation. Car insurance is mandatory, and this company’s lack of responsiveness and support has made me decide that I will never use their services again. It was the worst experience I’ve had with an insurance provider.

STAY FAR AWAY

I pray you never go into business with this company. Can not add vehicles to policy unless on phone with representative. They keep bankers hours and long hold times and very weak automation systems that cause more trouble than provide any solutions. If there was a way to put 0 I would. There is no customer service to speak of.

Shady, Dishonest, and Utterly Incompetent

My experience with National General Insurance has been nothing short of a nightmare, defined by deception, delays, and downright unethical behavior.

Following an accident caused by a driver insured by National General, they dragged their feet for weeks before accepting liability, even though the police report, recorded statements, and all documentation were handed to them on a silver platter. Their excuse for the delay? That the driver was “unlisted.” This is an irrelevant stalling tactic, especially in North Carolina, where insurance follows the vehicle, not the driver, something they clearly know, yet pretended not to.

Communication? Nonexistent. My assigned adjuster went radio silent for weeks at a time. Calls ignored. Emails unanswered. Only after demanding to speak to a supervisor and filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau did I get any kind of response, and even that was a mix of lip service and gaslighting.

Then came the repair estimate, if you can even call it that. Their “field claims representative” conveniently left out obvious, visible damage to my vehicle and then tried to pass off a lowball estimate using cheap aftermarket or recycled parts in place of proper OEM parts. OEM parts were on my vehicle before the accident, and OEM parts are necessary to restore my vehicle to its pre-loss condition. Their justification? OEM parts are. not covered under the policy. This is not only irrelevant (this is a liability claim) but also blatantly misleading. Insurers don’t offer OEM coverage for third-party claims; they just don’t want to pay for quality parts.

Their entire strategy is clear: delay, deny, and devalue. They push heavily for the “supplemental” repair process after intentionally lowballing the repair estimate. This shady tactic gives them two easy outs. If the full extent of the damage is revealed through supplements, they can quickly declare the vehicle a total loss, not to protect you, but to avoid paying the full cost of proper repairs. However, more often, they’re banking on you giving up, accepting a cash payout based on their incomplete, manipulated estimate, which doesn’t come close to covering the actual damage.

Either way, they win by cutting costs, and you lose by being left with a vehicle that’s either devalued or unrepaired. It’s a calculated, predatory move executed with zero concern for fairness, safety, or the customer they’re supposed to support.

The cherry on top? The only actions they took, like reimbursing me for a rental or replacing damaged car seats, were done after I filed an official complaint. They didn’t act out of integrity or accountability. They acted out of damage control. Their own timeline proves it.

National General does the bare minimum to appear compliant, all while undermining your rights, dodging responsibility, and manipulating the system in their favor. They are not just incompetent, they are predatory.

DO NOT GET YOUR INSURANCE HERE!!! I have had them for almost 4 years because it was the cheapest. I have them for my insurance and I was also just hit by one of their idiot customers and they totaled my car for me! I went through the process of getting them the title, releasing the vehicle to them, and they have had the title since 10:27 am on Friday May 30th,but the lady handling my claim Nicole White appertly comes in to the office whenever she feels like it! It's now Noon and she just got ahold of me. I called and called and her voice-mail says she was at home. I call the 1st lady handling it and had her get ahold of Nicole's manager and he confirmed she wouldn't be in till later in the day.... ummm yall are keeping me from working because she is at home, I can not do my job with a rental car! Do they care NOOOO!!! SO GO SOMEWHERE ELSE THAT MIGHT COST A LITTLE MORE BUT THE PEOPLE ACTUALLY SHOW UP FOR WORK AND DO THEIR JOB.

Minus ZERO stars should be an option for…

A DOUBLE ZERO stars should be an option for this company, because they don’t deserve ONE single star, a Deer hit my vehicle causing some damage to the front of it, the appraiser guy only allowed for the front light to be replaced, but Completely Ignored the paint damage, then when I tried to reach out to them, they’re Never there to enquirer about the car, left Several Messages, and Still NOTHING, No Response No call back they Completely ignored ME, just Wanted to KNOW WHY didn’t the paint job got approved by them, when CLEARLY it was damaged by the impact, piece of advice, Take your money And RUN from this company, they are No Good, they Only care about their DEEP POCKETS, AND HOW MANY MILLIONS THEY GONNA MAKE, we’re just another expense to them, because that’s what I’m going to do….Take My Money/Business Elsewhere!!

If I could give this a zero

If I could give this a zero, it would’ve been done. My grandson car was demolished totaled, but he managed to get out of it with just a scratch on my head and seen by ambulance on site. The police officer said that he hit water hydroplaned and the car flipped twice. The insurance NGIC/Direct Auto company proceeded to say that he did not have full coverage insurance. He applied online. Nobody called or sent any information to ask questions about where the vehicle was financed. I assume that with the vin number entered they would see it was financed. It was a new car 2022 Kia forte..the insurance company absolutely refused to pay for the car would not go look at the car. The Insurance Adjuster Leonard Parker was very rude. Ignorant wouldn’t let my grandson answer the questions correctly and he answered them for him with all incorrect answers. He has tried to get help and cannot get any attorney to help. It’s a shame how this insurance company can be so cruel. We do not do not recommend this company to anyone do not apply online.

If I could I would give them a zero

If I could I would give them a zero. Honda of Sarasota made purchase this insurance before I went to the finance office. After spending hours waiting for the finance manager, I decided not to purchase the car. I contacted them the next day to cancel the policy. I was told to contact the dealer. I contacted the dealer, instead of helping they were trying to convince me to purchase the vehicle. I disputed with my bank. A staff from the bank contacted them. They claimed they couldn't find me in their system, they couldn't find my policy. Therfore they couldn't help me. I don't know what is the next step.

National General initially seemed like…they were going to be a good company to do business with, but it turned out shady.

National General initially seemed like a reliable company when I first started my policy. However, over time, my fees increased after they claimed my policy had been canceled. When it was reinstated, I was charged one amount, but later, my monthly bill increased again. They explained that this was due to my reinstatement fee being lower than it should have been and also incorrectly claimed that my checking account had insufficient funds. As a result, I stopped automatic payments and began making payments online or through a representative because they were withdrawing funds on random days instead of my scheduled payment date. Despite explaining that I had switched to manual payments, they continued to provide incorrect information. I even offered to pull up my bank statements to show the discrepancies.

Another issue occurred when the company canceled my insurance for non-payment, even though my bill had been paid in full. When I spoke with a representative, he initially couldn’t find my payment. However, after I provided my bank statement and an email confirmation from their company, he suddenly "found" my policy but was unsure why it had been canceled. He claimed it was a computer glitch. Based on my experience, I feel this insurance company is disorganized and does not know how to properly conduct business.
