Three-time user of Mode Rentals in Wellington, for good reason. While other companies have the flash airport desk and the higher profile, Mode delivers comfortable, well maintained and reliable cars for a fraction of the cost. There's a simple shuttle to the base five minutes from the airport with barely any wait time. Customer service and contact are top notch. A great option for anyone needing a point A to point B vehicle for a modest price.

Rented a Rav 4 hybrid. Overall experience was good, car is in good condition, handed over with a clean car. Reception is also attentive, customer service is also responsive. Would recommend mode rental in future, their price is also quite reasonable.

I rented a car from mode for 3 weeks to tour NZ. Picked it up in Christchurch and their guy there was really helpful. I had to ring him twice to ask questions about how to use the car and he talked me through both times, very patiently and super friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again and would recommend them to my friends and family

Good price for what you get. People in the office were extremely nice and helpful.

Everything was perfect, from the airport pickup by a very nice and friendly Spanish woman; she picked us up, took us to the office, checked us in, and returned the car to us. The return was correct and the price was as agreed.

Michelle welcomed me to NZ in such a friendly and excited way that it set the tone for my entire trip :)

We rented a van which worked very reliably. The service at the pick-up site (Queenstown) and at the drop-off site (Auckland) was very friendly and fast.

Fast pick up and drop off. Had the car for a month so I’m sure there would have been a couple of new small scratches from driving on gravel roads but no problem at drop off. They’re not trying to catch anyone out.

Saw more Mode rental cars than any other company whilst we were in New Zealand.

We hired the 2020-22 Toyota Yaris. It was a hybrid which saved a good amount on fuel.

The Mode office at Christchurch airport and our rental car were both FAR too perfumed. Even my dad who never notices scent complained about it. We had to drive with all the windows completely down for the first two days. Other than that car was clear, tidy, ran great and service was prompt and professional. But please tone it down with the air freshener!

Long wait due to lack of employment

There was only 1 young boy working at the counter, although he did ask for everyone to self check-in online, it still took him a while to finalise the check-ins and then walk everyone at the back of the building to their cars and then come back. It took us 1 hour to pick up a car and when we arrived he was already checking in a couple and there was only 1 other couple in front of us.

Also, even though we rented the most expensive option, the car made so much wind noises in the car, maybe due to the useless roof racks, it was very annoying in long distances which gave us headaches.

Mode was super easy to book with and when picking up vehicle the team were great and super friendly. The vehicle was lovely and clean and I got an upgrade on the vehicle.
I was running a wee bit late on return and they were very understanding. Highly recommend using Mode for car hire!!

The representative at Auckland Railway station was so freindly, polite and efficient, I immediately thought about giving a 5 🌟 review if the drop off was efficient. NO hardsell of 'un-necessary extra insurance ' that I get elsewhere!
The drop off was very straightforward and again polite and easy-going! I was told at this point that I would receive an email from them that everything was OK and my bond had been released but I only got this after re-enquiring. However I would have no hesitation in recommending Mode, we will definitely use them next time we travel to N.Z. It would be helpful if they had more rental/drop off sites!

Efficient pickup and drop off to and from the airport. All staff are friendly. Special thanks to Lee whom I have known for sometime using this rental company. She deals with the paperwork promptly and is very approachable for all queries.

An excellent van in excellent condition! We couldn't have been happier with this rental! It was great from beginning to end! W used it nonstop for 3 weeks and we couldn't have been happier!

The long term rental option was great. It is cheaper than short term and is an older vehicle. The hybrid Rav4 and was perfect. Pick-up and drop off at a different location fitted our needs. The car yard is only a few minutes from the airport and they have a free shuttle. The car could have been cleaned better before pick-up is the only negative comment. We will book again.

Mode rentals cancelled our rental car hire 18 hours before we were due to pick our car up, after we had spent hours booking accomodation and activities.
There excuse was due to unforeseen circumstances.
Email sent 5.18pm 12th December 2025. Booking made previous day for 11am pick up 13 December.
This is extremely poor service and I would not recommend this company for hire a vehicle with
