Old car with mechanical failure.
The car (Subaru MPV) would not reliably start despite being in ‘Park’ and pushing the start button. The drivers seat fabric was falling apart. I ended up getting stranded in town with family not being able to start the vehicle.
I was rung on Saturday 20th December regarding the call out and it was suggested I might be charged as there was no mechanical fault! I objected to the call out charge as the car has a fault. While we did manage to get the car started by changing gear from Park to Neutral then back into Park- this is not how cars normally function. It is managing a fault to enable the car to get going and back hopefully for someone mechanically minded to have a look into it. I think there is likely some faulty sensor in the gearbox that stops the starter motor despite being in park and pushing the start button (I even had my foot on the brake to see if that made a difference as some cars required this). I would be very surprised if this car was not still having issues.
Had to swap it for another. The replacement car was fine- although remote key battery did not work. These cars are seem greater than ten years old and high mileage. Risk of mechanical issues. Beware.

We’ve reviewed the breakdown report from our roadside assistance provider, which confirms that the initial issue was not due to a mechanical fault with the vehicle, but rather related to the vehicle not being in the correct gear position at the time. As part of resolving this, you were assisted and provided with a replacement vehicle so you could continue with the remainder of your trip.
The call-out fee applied was in line with the assistance provided, and no mechanical fault was identified with the original vehicle once assessed.

Our experience with Bargain Rental Cars…
Our experience with Bargain Rental Cars was excellent from start to finish. The location was easy to find, and the overall process, from booking to pick-up and drop-off, was clear and well organised. The vehicle was in good condition, instructions were easy to follow, and everything ran smoothly.
A special mention to Sharnie, who truly exceeded our expectations. She was professional yet down to earth, friendly, smiley, and very hospitable. Her clear explanations of the contract and insurance gave us confidence, and her welcoming manner made the whole experience stress-free.
One small suggestion for improvement would be to clearly advise customers in advance that the same debit or credit card must be used for both the initial payment and the bond. Knowing this beforehand would make the pick-up process even smoother.
Overall, we were very satisfied with the service and would happily recommend Bargain Rental Cars to others.

Great Vaule and Great Service

We recently enjoyed a short but wonderful trip to New Zealand and needed a hire car for the week. After comparing prices online, we came across Bargain Rental Cars and found them to be the best-value option at Hamilton Airport. Intact they were hundreds of dollars cheaper than the major rental car companies.
The booking process was simple and almost entirely online, which made collection quick and hassle-free. We booked a Budget Hybrid Commuter and were pleasantly surprised to be upgraded to a Premium 2024 Toyota Camry Hybrid. The car was immaculate, damage-free, and supplied with a full tank of fuel.
Airport pickup and drop-off were right on time, and a nice extra touch was being returned to the airport in the same car we had hired. This meant we didn’t have to unload and reload our heavy luggage, which was greatly appreciated.
Excellent service, great value, and a very smooth experience from start to finish. We wouldn’t hesitate to use Bargain Rental Cars again and highly recommend them to anyone travelling in New Zealand.

We had a great experience with Bargain…
We had a great experience with Bargain Car Rentals Auckland! At check in Tina was brilliant and friendly and treated us like long lost cousins!
Had great response to us with our problem with the tyre, and then on checking back in, again Tina made us feel welcome and allowed us to park the car with our stuff in it on the premises while we had lunch. Great service and friendly staff.

Windscreen chips I missed on pickup cost me 250 NZD
I rented a 14 year old car with lots of dents and scratches which I noted on pickup. The staff did not advise me to take lots of photos and I did not see small chips in the windscreen. On returning the car the manager made a very detailed inspection of the car and the windscreen looking for a way to charge me more. They caught me for 250 NZD for chips I did not cause as we were mostly on motorway driving.

The windscreen chips identified at return were confirmed during our assessment as new damage that was not recorded at the start of the hire. As outlined in the rental agreement you signed, new damage is the customer’s responsibility unless optional windscreen cover is taken. In this case, the repair was required and the cost was applied in line with the agreed liability terms.

Great experience.
Met at airport. Staff were friendly and informative and helpful. Car was clean and tidy and was easy to drive. A few dings outside but these were pointed out. Price was very competitive.
