£40 charge after passing test!!
All seemed well with Collingwood Learner Driver Insurance until my son passed his test. At this point the policy becomes invalid, which is fair enough because he's no longer a learner.
What is not fair is a £40 fee charged to cancel the policy when you pass. It's basically a hidden extra cost which you can't avoid. If you're lucky enough to pass early in the policy you might get enough refund so that you don't pay some or all of the £40 but it's still money that you would have otherwise got back in your pocket.
When I phoned to complain I was told this is made very clear before you sign up, I do not remember seeing this. I know that there are cancellation fees for insurance products, but I assumed this was if I cancelled for other reasons, and not because the underwriter stops the cover.
Oh, and if you don't cancel after passing the driving test, at the point of renewal they will check, realise the test was passed and retrospectively charge the £40 anyway.

important that we make all of our fees and charges as transparent as possible.
If you would like to discuss this further, please reach out and we will be happy to help.

Very competitive price for learner driver insurance. Had to contact Collingwood about a query on the policy. Carole who dealt with it was fantastic. She went above and beyond to help. I would recommend Collingwood to any learner driver. £189 for 12 months insurance. Even if my son passes his test in 6 months it is still cheaper than many other insurers.

I’ve insured my son as a young learner driver, I have spoken to Ryan and Natasha who have both been extremely helpful and have assisted in getting my son on the road ready to get extra practice before his test.
The price is extremely reasonable and very good service they was clear and knowledgeable and it’s very much appreciated. I would highly recommend using this company especially for learner driving

Can't fault Collingwood
Over 2 years, not a problem at all. Fantastic staff.
I would like to point out the uniquely fantastic service provided to me by Carol after my Daughter passed her test. I would like to thank all at Collingwood, but especially Carol.
I also found the broker they recommended after my daughter passed, provided a much cheaper, yet more comprehensive service than I could find using the well known websites. Just a shame I had to move from Collingwood as no longer need learner insurance.
