Predatory contract agreements with hidden fees for cancelling. Not only that you are supposed to pay £40 for cancelling your learner policy, but there is also another "fee" based on the month you cancel your insurance at, with 1st month adding 25% of your premium to that £40 mentioned before. Do not recommend. There is no way of finding this out unless you go and read the agreement and T&Cs, which many people ignore and what makes this company profit on it. 1/10 service.

My experience with this insurance company was extremely negative and disappointing. I filed an insurance claim but later cancelled it, and I was told that everything would be fine and that cancelling the claim would not work against me.

However, when it came time to renew my annual insurance, I discovered that several years of my No Claims Bonus had been removed. What is even more frustrating is that I was never informed or warned that cancelling the claim would result in any loss of my No Claims Bonus.

When I contacted the insurance company to ask for an explanation, they refused to provide me with a clear explanation and simply told me to contact my broker. However, even my broker was not aware that my No Claims Bonus had been affected and could not explain why this had happened.

I find the whole situation extremely disappointing and feel that I was not given clear or accurate information. The lack of transparency and communication has been very frustrating.

I do not recommend this company and would strongly advise others to avoid it.

Absolutely shocking, my daughter has just passed her test and just been charged £40 cancellation fee, this is madness bearing in mind collingwood only insure learners and don’t have the option to insure once they pass their test, the lady said if you cancel within 14 days of taking policy out you don’t get charged. Disgusting to be charging this as most learners are going to cancel within the year of taking the policy, so they are charging £40 at least per learner, they should be ashamed.

Don't trust this company. Charging a cancellation fee despite me informing them my son passed 4 months ago. They say they've emailed in advance, utter lies. Don't even consider vulnerable customers. I've dealt with loads of insurers over the years and by far this is the worst customer service experience I've had. Don't use them. They hide charges,

Day time robbery, bad insurance , do not use, charged me £170 extra after my daughter got her driver's license and cancelled policy.

I've had 3 phone calls with Collingwood this week, all with 3 different ladies. Every person was super helpful and friendly. I was abel to get through quickly and didn't have to keep repeating myself on each call. Couldn't be happier with the service.

They are one of biggest scammers. They rely on you passing your test within first year and ask you to cancel policy and when you cancel at their request they charge you £40 for cancellation even that I have not asked for any refund. They keep the full premiums and charge you cancellation at their request same time.

This company don't tell you about a £40 cancellation fee when you take the policy out. It's a hidden fee. They're also quite sneaky in how they wait until a certain time has passed for there to be no premium refundable, before contacting you to say if you have passed the test, to cancel it and you owe us £40 to cancel. Crafty, underhand and deceitful.

I also phoned up customer service just now and I informed them that if I had to pay £40, that I would leave negative reviews across all Collingwood Insurance accounts online due to the underhand way in which they insist on a £40 "cancellation" fee.

They were quite happy for me to leave them. So any "reply" from one of their reputation manager agents below that will no doubt follow this review is simply worth nothing at all.

Thankfully we had no accident during the policy, but with these sorts of underhand tactics by this company, I'd be very wary and read all the small print before considering using them.

I would avoid this company at all costs.

I took insurance out for my Daughter as learner insurance.
When she passed her test a call was made to cancel the insurance, and request a quote for full insurance.
We were told that Collingwood do not cover full licence holders, plus we could not claim anything back from cancelling the insurance mid term. (After approximately 5 months).

Roll forward 7 months and my daughter gets a call requesting £40 cancellation fee!!
Collingwood claim to have no record of our calls and also claim to have sent a number of emails to my daughter, which have never arrived.
Conveniently, Collingwood IT team have confirmed the emails were sent and that there is no record of us contacting them.

The upshot is that if they had cancelled the insurance when we called, they would have owed us £45, less the £40 admin fee. So I would have been £5 up….. however due to the information supplied I lost the £45 refund and have also had to pay a £40 cancellation fee.
So it’s effectively cost me an extra £85.

If you want to throw money away to a company who in my opinion are clearly inept and only make money from hidden fees and charges then go with Collingwood, if not find a reputable company.

Pay in full for an annual leaner insurance which runs from October 2025 to September 2026. I passed my test during March and forgot to notified them, they sent me an email a couple of days ago asking if I wanted to cancel my policy and will be charging me £40 of processing fee. A ridiculous hidden charge which should be implemented into the price from the start. Failed to explain what the £40 was for other than “admin fee”. Got told that no matter when I notify them, even if I notify them the day I pass I still will need to pay the £40.

I had been struggling to get a short term policy for a taxi. Quite a few companies wouldn't help, however Dee-Lie at Collingwood insurance was marvellous, she took the stress out of the situation and explained everything in detail, offering me a very competitive quote which I'm happy to take. Bought a learner drive insurance policy which automatically cancels as is invalid after the learner driver passing. Paid the full premium and was still charged a cancellation fee when Collingwood cancelled the policy. This fee should be included within the premium as seems a hidden charge

My experience with Collingwood Insurance Services Ltd has left me extremely disappointed, particularly regarding their approach to cancellation fees and the complete lack of flexibility shown.

My daughters policy was cancelled with only around one month remaining. Despite being so close to the end of the policy, Collingwood applied a £40 cancellation fee, which I was told was non-negotiable.

What makes this particularly frustrating is that, because the policy was already in month 11, no refund of the remaining premium was offered. So, from my perspective, I received no financial benefit from cancelling the policy, yet was still expected to pay an additional £40 simply to end it a few weeks early.

Had this been made clear in practical terms, it would have made far more sense to simply leave the policy running until its natural expiry date rather than cancel it and incur an additional charge.

I find this approach very difficult to justify. Collingwood appear happy to rely rigidly on their terms when imposing a £40 cancellation fee, while at the same time retaining the premium because the policy is near its end. It feels like a clear double standard, with the terms working entirely in the insurer’s favour and offering the customer no reasonable or proportionate outcome.

I fully appreciate that insurers have administration fees and contractual terms. However, applying a £40 cancellation charge one month before the end of a policy, while providing no premium refund whatsoever, feels excessive and demonstrates a complete lack of discretion or customer-focused decision making.

Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend that anyone considering Collingwood reads the cancellation terms very carefully, particularly what happens towards the end of the policy.

Unfortunately, the inflexible handling of this situation has completely undermined my confidence in Collingwood Insurance Services Ltd and I would not choose to use them again nor would I recommend them, I will go out of my way to actively warn people about them.
