My car was damaged in an accident. The insurance company referred me to this workshop. The car was supposed to be ready in a maximum of 3 weeks… but I only collected it after 2 months. It was meant to be safe and ready for the road. Just a few minutes after leaving the garage, every warning light on the dashboard lit up. It was already after closing time (5 minutes past 5 pm) and no one was answering the phone. I drove to a friend’s garage and it turned out the problem was a flat battery. The fault codes had simply been cleared with a diagnostic computer before I collectthe car. The tyre pressures were below 2 bar, which shows the car hadn’t been checked before being handed over after such a long time — creating a real risk of an accident. The garage claimed they take no responsibility because “they don’t check the cars”… a joke.
The next day I inspected the vehicle properly and called to complain: peeling trim (the car had new rear doors fitted and the entire side resprayed), a rear window that wouldn’t close properly, and paint on the seals, paint chips in the lacquer and a wavy. Damage door seals, etc
I complained about the quality of the repairs two more times, and each time the situation was the same. To this day the car still has defects from the incomplete repair, and the garage continues to avoid responsibility. I do not recommend this garage. Poor quality of work and treating customers with contempt seem to be their motto.

My car was fully repaired and it’s well enticing. However, I’m disappointed in that they failed to give me a courtesy car for all the 14 days my car was in service and they kept telling me it’s subject to availability and there was none available at the moment

Wow, looks like a new car now

Hi there, the accident occurred on Wednesday 15/04/2026 and I finally collected my car on Friday 17/07/2026 after five separate completion dates. The car was in good order, and the repairs are very good. I have only a couple of things to report. The nearside rear quarter light glass had a black glue-like residue on it which came off with a bit of elbow grease and glass cleaner. but I noticed that the driver's side door sills had not been cleaned and the nearside seats had what looked like dust on the sides, this came off with a vacuum. Alton Cars - A Bumper Experience
Booking the car in for repairs (Leeds) was a bit of a challenge – the earliest available appointment was about five weeks away. That was understandable, as I assumed they were very busy. After about a week in the workshop, the car finally came back and, at first glance, everything seemed fine... until I noticed the brand-new bumper was completely unpainted!
To add to the comedy, there was a leaflet inside the car proudly stating that every job is checked by the workshop manager. I'd genuinely love to know how an unpainted bumper managed to sail past the final inspection.
The car had to go back for the remedial work, and a courtesy car had also been arranged, so I assumed everything was in place. Unfortunately, on the day my car was due to be collected, I discovered nobody had actually booked the courtesy car and none were available at short notice, this would have left me without a car without warning. Thankfully, at the last minute they managed to find one.
To be fair, the quality of the repair work itself was good, and all contact with the collection & delivery drivers and customer services was good.
My frustration is with the lack of attention to the obvious. It never seemed to occur to anyone that a replacement bumper should actually match the rest of the car before it was returned, and the forgotten courtesy car booking only reinforced the impression that the whole process wasn't joined up.
The overall experience felt like a masterclass in avoidable mistakes. A little more attention to detail, a proper final inspection, and better internal communication would have turned this into a five-star experience instead of a frustrating one.
