This was our first experience with Mode Rentals although we have relocated cars for many other companies. We will certainly use them again. They kept us fully informed at every stage of the process. Their website is very informative as regards vehicles and journeys available. Staff were outstanding - polite and professional. The car was exactly as we expected and had no problems. A pleasant journey.

The staff were friendly with advice and assistance. The car was great transport and we appreciated the free shuttle to and from the airport.

I took a one-way rental from Auckland to Wellington. Pickup in Auckland was quick and so was the drop-off in Wellington and shuttle to the airport

They are very organized and everything is straight to the point. This helps a lot in any process. The car was perfect, and the return of the car, even after working hours, worked perfectly.

First the service is very slow on arrival to pick up car.
Second the lack of being able to extend the rental period. Clearly could have been able to keep car a little longer.
Thirdly paid insurance and was charged for a very tiny stone chip and when I asked service person who insurance company was he would not tell me. Gave me email address and told me to email.
I use mode on a regular basis both to park my car in Christchurch and service is fantastic could not fault it.
I then get a rental car and a very unpleasant experiance from start to finish.
Will not rent from Auckland airport branch again

When booking my car they mentioned that a guarantee is given for the brand and type of car booked so I booked a Toyota RAV4 and when I went to pick it up I got the Same car that I booked.

The pick up from Queenstown was the most efficient I have ever come across. We were collected from the airport with minimum delay and taken the five minutes to their offices. Even though there were 4 other customers on our minibus the process of collecting our car took a maximum of 10 minutes. Please remember to register on line. If only UK car hire companies were half as efficient.
Everything else was perfectly fine and we were left with an impression of a company that wants to offer good client service and is not wanting to increase revenue by checking for additional minor scratches etc. so refreshing!

My experience with Mode Rentals was frustrating. We had an old car and the battery died during our rental period, which as such is not their fault, obviously something like this can happen. But the communication was offputting: when I first wrote to report battery weakness, it didn't seem they were taking it all too seriously (e-mail: "Mh, that's strange... we always service batteries between rentals...") and then when the battery did die two weeks later, their first concern was to let us know that if Road Assistance did not find any issues with the battery, we needed to foot the bill (the car wasn't starting!). We got the new battery put in, and when we asked about negotiating on our relocation fee because of the car hassles (we ended up changing our flight plans due to poor weather on the South Island), they wouldn't budge an inch on their policy. All in all, not a great experience. As said, the car was old, the GPS no good, the bluetooth function never kicked in (not compatible with iPhone17), so we had to navigate from phone only and no listening to music or podcasts possible.

The Car Nissan Mini-Bus has terrible seats.
We used this auto from 27th January to 9th Feb 2026. Experienced terrible seating.
We wanted Toyota Hi-Ace 10 Seater Long Body but told not available & were given Nissan as equivalent. But we found it is not equal.Also engine has no power

I've been renting with Mode Chch for a few times, really awesome experience each time, airport pickup and drop off never had long wait, staff members are polite and very helpful. Plus the inexpensive rates make Mode stand out.

I picked up the car from Mode, which was a short shuttle drive away from the airport. The pick up procedure was quick and hassle free. The car was clean and the model I had ordered. The car worked well for the full hire period (19 days) and was very efficient, using half a tank of fuel for in excess of 400 Kms travelled.

There is a petrol station just a short distance from the Mode premises making topping the tank up prior to return easy. The drop off process was again quick and easy with a shuttle available to take us back to the airport.

I would have no problem in selecting Mode again.

Great Value for what were able to rent
The Corolla Wagon was a fantastic driving car for a Hybrid and we got a clean and in well-maintained condition

We booked our vehicle through our travel agency, Connections in Belgium, and were thoroughly impressed by the outstanding service from Mode Rentals. From start to finish, the experience was seamless and far exceeded our expectations.
The car was in pristine condition—almost like new—when we picked it up. The airport transfer service for both pickup and drop-off was incredibly smooth and hassle-free. Communication throughout the process was clear, efficient, and made everything effortless for us.
We honestly have no suggestions for improvement—everything was perfect! Keep up the fantastic work; you’re doing an amazing job.

The staff at Mode went the extra mile to make our trip to New Zealand a great experience - easy pick up, quick airport transfer, well maintained vehicle, friendly and helpful staff (big thanks to Li for picking us up!), and gave us the best possible price for the car hire.

We appreciated the flexibility from staff when we needed to return the car earlier than planned to avoid traffic delays getting to the airport. While there was a fee for returning the car before 8.30am staff offered to waive the fee when we arrived at 8am. Both drivers to and from the airport were very friendly.

We were picked up at Queenstown Airport by the Mode shuttle, and taken to the office where the handover was quick and efficient. The same for the return, all sorted out quickly and efficiently. The car was in good condition and we were happy with it for the purpose of our trip
