I own an Evolve Skateboards GTR Bamboo All Terrain. I had not used it for around 1.5 years after my last ride, where I experienced a serious fault that resulted in injury.
During that ride, the board developed a critical issue where it would cut out when braking. When this occurred, I attempted to restart the board multiple times in order to safely return home.
The board would power on intermittently and sometimes respond, but when I applied throttle input there was no forward movement. Shortly after, without consistent response to input, the board suddenly engaged and accelerated unexpectedly, causing me to be thrown backwards and I fell, breaking my elbow.
Due to this incident, I have not used the board since due to safety concerns.
The issue involved loss of braking control, intermittent power loss, and unpredictable acceleration behaviour, which presents a serious safety risk.

I’ve had a very frustrating experience with Evolve regarding a new Evolve GTR Carbon board.
The board was defective straight out of the box – the belt was misaligned and scraping against the motor pulley. Because of this, I have never used the board.
I initially contacted the retailer (Ride + Glide), who did not take responsibility and referred me elsewhere. Since then, the case has gone through Evolve UK, Evolve EU, and Evolve HQ in Australia.
Evolve EU received the rear assembly for repair and replaced parts (rear strut and motor hanger). However, the issue was not resolved – the problem remains essentially unchanged after the repair.
Since then I have experienced:
- No response from Evolve EU
- Evolve UK referring me back to the retailer
- Evolve HQ stating the issue “is not a concern” and encouraging me to ride the board
It is not reasonable to expect a customer to use a brand new premium product where the drivetrain is clearly not functioning correctly and the belt is scraping.
The case is still unresolved, and I am left with an unused board that does not work as it should.
Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Evolve.

Ive emailed multiple times over the last week and had no heap in resolving this issue. Now they wont even reply to me. Seriously pissed off! Be aware of purchasing from evolve Australia online they will rip you off!
I’ve had this board a month and a half. I purchased the bash guard, the board, lights, and extended warrenty. Within one month in the remote stopped working. There were glitches in the remote communicating to the board to accelerate and to break prior the remote completely stop functioning. The lights didnt stick from the moment I got it out of the box. I attempted to communicate with their customer service and was greeted with a cold and discouraging support informing me I have to pay more to fix their disfucntional remote. I went to the insurance warrenty and they declined my claim because they ruled it as a factory error. Now 2 weeks after that the bash guard just started crumbling. Ive not run into anything and I use the board to go 0.25 miles to and from school and home on a smooth bikelane in San Francsico. I believe these products are designed to fall apart and keeping their customers on a financial hook. Do not recommend. I wrote this on their Shopify and recognized after the fact they regulated what reviews they have on their Shopify profile. I wish the insights on here were also on their Shopify profile because I would have never purchased this board and it was recommended by a friend and I trusted his judgement and didn’t further investigate so that’s on me. I hope others find this insightful.
Follow up: They finally came rushing to remedy these issues and send me replacements because they’re concerned about reputation and imagine. I followed with them
“While I appreciate the replacements, it doesn’t address the underlying issues just putting a temporary bandaid over the symptoms.
The metal quality used for the bash guard and the screws are where the issues are. I can’t put in the new bash guard because the screw post from the previous one is lodged in the hole and the head popped off. The metal is some cheap composite metal and not solid metal so it will just continue to crumble. I can’t put the new one on due to this and I don’t see the point since I imagine it will continue to crumble.”

As someone who is a Digital Marketing and Strategic Communications professional working in Public Relations and digital Advertising and then turned MFA Product Developer and MBD Design Strategist I’d give my unsolicited professional feedback to this company: Stop cutting corners on quality when safety is part of the conversation and from a PR standpoint, I’d advise not trying to just put bandaids over the symptoms but use your market research team and look at the insights in your reviews and apply them through your quality control.

Or if you really want to get one there are plenty of boards with minimal mileage going for under £500 due to tha faults on the 2nd hand market
Picked up the Diablo Bamboo All Terrain a few months ago and it’s been one of the best purchases I’ve made. I weigh 100kg and it handles me no problem, heaps of power, super stable, and seriously fun to ride.
I use it to ride to work every day (15km round trip) and it’s smooth, reliable, and saves me time. On weekends, I’m doing 40km rides easy with battery to spare. Whether I’m carving through the streets or taking it off-road, it just performs.
Massive shoutout to the team for building something this solid. If you’re on the fence, just go for it.
Bought a Project BMX last month. This thing is a beast! Ordered on a Wednesday - had the bike by Friday. Easy to order - easy to assemble - and the power on this bike is incredible. I don't think I'll ever go back to a normal pushy! Saving now on petrol commuting to and from work (15km). Couldn't be happier!
I have bought 5 controllers now 4 of the old ones and 1 of the new they keep braking and now the screen is not showing anything like I need a new one they make money of us buying their expensive remonte controller witch should not break but it breaks all the time and I have to buy a new one
Bought Abec pulley for my exway plflex pro and they don't fit the trucks. Complete waste of money.
I have 2 evolve boards myself so decided to buy a stoke for my son for Xmas the board straight out of the box was faulty sent back to revolve what an absolute chew on they have had the board for over a month now kept saying it’s a battery fault and don’t have any battery’s waiting for shipment but not sure when they will come so I now have no board and no feed back it’s a shame as I love my carbon gtr but dealing with eve old is just a nightmare
Terrible. Never buy anything from theese money grubbers. Stole over $3170 dollars from me and lied every single time.
After sending the skateboard to their office and covering the shipping costs from London to Northampton and back, as well as paying for their assessment, I ended up spending over £100 and loosing my skateboard. Despite their claims that they shipped the skateboard back, it never arrived. It has now been over five months, and they continue to tell me that they have no feedback from the courier company, which is simply ridiculous. How do they even manage to do business with this courier company if they can’t get any updates or feedback?
Does anyone knows how I can get a refund for what was lost during this operation with Evolve?
My battery was worn out after only 2-3 years. This sucks as a new battery from evolve is over the top expensive. But that is not the worst part. I have now waited 1.5 years in queue to get a new battery as they have been out of stock. When I finally turned to the main company in Australia they gave me this answer:
"Due to this, the decision was made to cease the manufacture of all GT specific parts. Unfortunately, this means we no longer have any access to GT batteries and don't have a cost-effective workaround."
Which means my board is now useless. And I dont believe it is any problem getting a chinese company produce cheap batteries for the older boards. They just want you to buy a new one. Their board was in the beginning a good product when they was a small company, but I hope the founder and owners of Evolve realize that it has now turned into a scam company that only focus on selling new boards and doesnt care about existing customer that put a lot of money in to their product.

If you are reading this, look at other brands.
Evolve is a money-grubbing company, verging on the point of negligence.
You will not have your warranty honoured unless you open a case with the Fair Trade Ombudsman.
Cheap Chinese brands provide equivalent or better quality alternatives for half the cost and at least then there is no expectation that the company will take responsibility for providing a safe or reliable product.

In late December 2023 I was cruising home from the grocery store on my GTR Electric Skateboard, travelling at about 15kmph when out of nowhere the board seized up and cut out; throwing me forward off the board, causing me to sprain my wrist. Then out of nowhere the board started to violently smoke and crackle on the roadside. Luckily, I was able to turn the board off at the kill switch, so it didn't catch fire. I walked the board home to which I immediatly let down the air in my tyres and then removed my back wheels to check if anything was caught in the belts or motors. I found nothing to be there, so I turned the board back on again to check to see if the smoke problem still occurred. As I switched it on again, the board immediatly started to spew smoke. I then turned the board off, put it all back in its original box and contacted Evolve customer support. They informed me NOT to use the board further as the board is now a hazard due to the smoke and fire risk and that I should immediatly send it in to the service center to be looked at.
After a a few days long lengthy battle with the customer service reps trying to charge me about $80 to send it in, I was finally able to send the board off to the service center via FedEx.
After a few days I received an email from the service centre informing me that the board had indeed failed and the ECU was fried. In that same email Evolve tried to blame the problem on user error, stating that I was not running the correct air pressure in my tyres, causing too much strain on the ECU. This was nothing but pure speculation and accusation seeing as board didn't even have tyres on it when it was received at the service center, nor did those tyres have any air in them because I let them down to take off the tyres when the board had its fault. Your rep informed me not to use or touch the board any further as it was a hazard so I packed it up as it was at the time of that phone call. I have always used the air pressure recommended by the Evolve service rep on the companies YouTube channel. My board has always been extremely well maintained and treated with respect. For me personally, $2099 is a lot of money to spend on a product; so I have treated it like gold.
They have on multiple occasions told me that my board is NOT covered by Australian Consumer Warranty; which in of itself is fraudulent. They have denied my right to a refund on approximately 5 different occasions.
I have compiled a file FILLED with stories, photos and videos of people having the EXACT same issue and also people having extremely similar issues with their Evolve GTR Skateboards. These boards are nothing but a safety hazard and must be avoided at all costs.
This has been an almost 5 month saga and this entire time I've been without my board as it's still in Evolve's possession. It's my only form of transport because I'm disabled and can't drive.
I'm currently working with a legal team to take them to court to get my money. With the help of my lawyer, I have sent off a final refund request this afternoon giving them 14 days to comply otherwise with the help of my lawyer we will be taking further legal action.
The have no respect for their customers or the law. Zero.
They could not care less about you and your expierience with their products, they just want your money.
Also don't believe the reviews on their websites an/or their social media forums. They quickly delete any critical reviews that are made and even went to the extent of banning me from posting on their Facebook forum for a month all because I mentioned this issue there. Just asking if anyone else had similar issues.
IN RESPONSE TO EVOLVE'S REPLY:
- My board was purchased brand new in October of 2021. The board caught fire due to an admitted fault after very minimal use. This caused injury. If it can't be ridden lightly to the shop, it can't go downhill, off-road as advertised. If you think that counts as being 'safe', 'able to do as advertised' or 'of acceptable quality', you're wrong.
- According to my legthy personal expierience and also according to countless people online you do not comply to the ACL in the slightest.
- The matter was taken up by Fair Trade, but they failed to contact me to get any information about the case. Due to my disabilty I found it difficult to navigate their website and I dont own a computer so I wasn't able to upload the necessary evidence I have. My legal team and I will be going back to Fair Trade to re-open this case for then to be able to accurately review this case in its entirety. Not just take your nonsense at whole value and call it a day. I did request for Fair Trade to call me to discuss the matter properly; they did not
- Your offer of resolution was to fix the faulty board at no cost to me. Which I won't take because the board IS NOT SAFE. I will never feel safe on an Evolve product again. Under the ACL I have the right to full refund.

Board is better than I would of believed. Customer service was also very good. Quick friendly and on the phone which is a huge plus.
