I've been subscribing to Ancestry for a couple of years, having completed a DNA test. It's been a fascinating and revealing journey to date! I wish my late father could have known about my discoveries of his family history.
I always suspected we had solid ties to Scotland. It appears we have illegitimate but nevertheless 'royal' connections to two Scottish kings and a Danish princess!
It's also been amazing to learn so much more about my mother's family history. Ancestry has been able to access German records going back to the 14th and 15th centuries (not available when I joined).
I now have over 3,000 people on my family tree! It's really becoming a little 'unwieldy", however, you can easily trace the particular lines to the present day.
I would highly recommend Ancestry to anyone interested in their family tree, and in understanding 'where they have come from'!

Ancestry has been a tremendous help in discovering our ancestors and being able to connect with long lost family members. The amount of information on Ancestry is unbelievable! The Ancestry site is easy to use. Easy to share so that other family members can become contributors to the family tree. If you want to delve into family connections and discover your roots, then Ancestry is the go to site.

I found my Grand-father (with 95% certainty) and, along the way, found several 2nd cousins, one of which did not know who her father was. We eventually found her half-sister, so she was able to know her birth family background.
I also discovered a number of misconceptions in my extended family and several newspaper stories of interest.

In my experience Ancestry keeps adding improvements

the information I obtained from Ancestry has enables me to discover so much about my family as well as my husband's family. their records have been invaluable

It did not help me much with my own family but it did with my ex who was adopted. Our daughter wanted to know who her birth Grandparents were.
I have found out a lot from members, DNA and also a My Heritage member.

Before joining Ancestry I knew very little about my bio family, scanty knowledge only from my mum
Over the last 5 years as an Ancestry member I have discovered so much!
You do need to evaluate your green leaf hints carefully though, many trees have wrong information
I learnt this the hard way now I’m going through & getting records that back up those hints
If they aren’t there I delete the person & try again
Having my dna done also led to a few surprises both maternal & paternal ones too!

I have been using Ancestry for over 20 years. Over that time the ever-growing digital records I have had access to through this platform has grown my tree in depth and detail I could not have imagined when I started out all those years ago. Inconsistencies in the details in my early research have been resolved, and new avenues of research have been uncovered.

As I have fairly common family surnames, I found having my DNA tested, helped to verify that I was on the 'right' track.
Tips can be helpful, but I find research for records is also required.

I’ve really enjoyed investigating these new connections that Ancestry has been highlighting. It has been a pleasing confirmation of my research but also highlighted American connections I haven’t seen before.

I have been a member since 2008 and have been satisfied with information. However I signed up with printing of family profile could be printed including photos. Now this is not available, profile page is currently disgraceful and I am considering my membership.
Can someone advise me on how to print including photos. Thank You.

I have been working on my family tree for years and now, because there are so many others doing the same thing, we get all the hints from others. After a break, I come back and find these hints waiting for me. It is a lot easier to get the right info than it used to be.

Generally it’s good but I’m always looking for improvements with interpreting DNA matches. The addition of new data to check for family members is also critical.

Ancestry is Expensive and then they add pro-tools as an extra monthly cost, things that are included in MyHeritage base subscription. I hate paying extra for protools, things I used to have for free , but theyve carved functions out of the base subcription that now attract a monthly fee - They removed folders from messages - no warning, making it hard to manage correspondence, message respoonse rate 5 in 100, as ancestry only notifies the recipient once - and messages stay unread forever

Huge price disparity depending on your country (USA cheap, Australia expensive every time)

I have tried & tried to get you to correct my account which I am still paying . I can't get into Ancestry and nobody is doing anything about my problem. I have been in touch with Consumer Affairs and nothing is happening. Previously everything was just great but now I wound'nt recommend you to anyone wanting to join. Maybe now I will get some answers. Having updated my subscription I thought I would be ok but not the case Bev Kelly/Waterman.

The biggest and best data base for genealogy and DNA, use it every day and have been a subscriber since 2012. Easy to navigate, but tree owners need to understand that they MUST verify details before copying to their trees - unfortunately there are a lot of incorrect public trees on Ancestry because people just add facts without checking them, this leads to a lot of disinformation being circulated and copied. Ancestry subscriptions (particularly the World and All Content packages) are expensive but they do have a lot to offer. I would have given 5 stars if there were more Asian ancestry content. Though I also subscribe to other genealogy sites, Ancestry is still my prioritized go-to for genealogy & DNA.

I object to enabling two step verification to look at Thru Linest. Ridiculous, what reason?.

I only knew my father's and his mothers name and met him for 15 minutes when 8. I asked my closest unknown cousin how we were related and she had her sister respond and she offered to do research for me as she was a long time Ancestry researcher. Over time she and an aunt found the birth certificate of my father but the man on the certificate wasn't DNA related to me but their family was.My father's mother died when he was 8 and he was adopted - we found that family then using their name he married but ran away from her and changed his name (3 changes) and married my mother. We found he was born out of wedlock and as yet not discovered my grandfather, but found my father's half sister on my father's DNA father's side and a half siter on his mother's side. We discovered a piece of music he wrote in the Canberra Library in 1937. The man on his birth certificate also changed his name 3 times so a totally confusing search on Ancestry over many years but impossible without the hints from Ancestry. I don't care how I got here just very grateful I was and now I can follow where different amazing DNA traits were from - eternally grateful to Ancestry. Elaine

I have loved my Ancestry journey over a long period of time now. I have learned about relatives and places they lived and found so many connections that I had no idea about.

Thrulines using DNA matches has given more than just the hints. One match gave me a lot of info from an Australian on a convict ancestor, while another, an American, has led me to change my tree! Who would have thought a very distant relative in the States had requested a copy of my great grandmother's Australian death certificate only to reveal to the Australians that she was from Ireland, not England, as everyone assumed!
