The UI is the best in the genealogy business at the moment. And the heritage estimates are the most accurate for me personally.
However, the service is exorbitantly expensive—and the numerous "tiers" put a dampener on the website as a whole.
The DNA matching suffers from a few notable omissions. The biggest one is the inability to search by largest cM shared. For anyone with heritage from a highly endogamous ethnic group, this ability is vital for parsing out "true" matches from the crowd. It is a feature that would massively boost Ancestry's standing as a tool to help break brick walls. Another useful tool would be the capacity to search by the ethnicity or journey of your matches. Lets say you had a mysterious contribution to your own DNA, this feature would greatly aid your ability to chase down where in your tree that came from.
The platform also suffers from user-based error. The ability to cite someone else tree exasperates this problem. It creates legitimacy to poorly backed research, leading to lots of people having crucial genealogical mistakes in their tree.

I grew up loving jigsaws. My mother liked to tell people that I’d solve them again and again, ultimately turning them over and completing them on the blank cardboard side as a challenge. Tracing my family tree has felt much the same. For more than twenty years I’ve worked through Ancestry’s remarkable archive, assembling fragments, challenging old stories, and trying to discover real people rather than just a list of names and dates.
Some of my ancestors lived remarkable lives—fishermen face to face with eternity, soldiers damaged by war, migrants who crossed oceans, individuals caught in tragedy or lifted by unexpected opportunity. Others lived quietly, loving their families and working hard. I try to meet them as individuals, to flesh them out, and acknowledging the lives that led to mine.
None of this would have been possible without Ancestry’s vast library of records and the clarity provided by AncestryDNA. The platform turns research into a genuine pleasure: a slow, rewarding puzzle where each document adds a new piece to the picture. For anyone who enjoys careful thinking, discovery, and the satisfaction of building truth from fragments of evidence, Ancestry is an extraordinary resource.
It’s certainly better than doing the same jigsaw over and over.
I have had my DNA rejected 4-5x now and it's next to impossible to get an answer on why. Some of the customer service staff are incompetent and give conflicting advice whereas others are great. There doesn't seem to be a lot of quality control. I've been trying to sort out DNA and family tree for well over 6 months now. Hopefully, this will be resolved soon.
UPDATE: ancestry.com doesn't even allow feedback/complaint to be sent via email so you keep a record. Following the below response, I spent time emailing them via an email address the previously used. I then received an email that they don't reply to emails on that address and directed me towards their usual phone service/contact form. I'm so exhausted by dealing with this company. It's a large organisation now. You would think they'd have an adequate customer service system.

There is a lot that is good but some things have been frustrating. The system has improved over the years but there is still much more to do. Some of it relates to bugs some to design. It would be impossible to detail these things without keeping notes...

Through Ancestry, the other members and DNA I now have a different but deeper understanding of my origins and who I am, by descent.
My understanding has come in waves, so it's not just that one day I had a revelation and that was that. It's a bit like a flower unfolding, revealing a bit more each time. That doesn't mean it doesn't send out shock waves. Be prepared to take some time to adjust.
Recently a DNA 'angel' discovered the common ancestor between myself and a second cousin. We shared a great grandfather. Our 'angel' went further, unearthing the parentage of our great great grandfather. I knew little of him and now I have a history deeply embedded in Devon and the early days of both the colonies of Massachusetts and Nova Scotia. I come from a family of pioneers. I can see the links I share and know they witnessed the major world events of their time.
This is not the first family secret that those long dead thought they had hidden only to have it uncovered by DNA and Ancestry. The other took me back to fifteenth century Yorkshire.
Ancestry has been central to these discoveries, starting with the DNA test, which enabled me to make links and connections through other members on a journey to more fully understand who I am by descent. I have to also give credit to the nurture provided by those raising a son or daughter not their own, though they didn't always know.
Thanks Ancestry. It's been an adventure. I haven't found a fishing village in Norway yet but on past experience, you never know what you might find that will ask you to redefine your self and where you came from.

I have used Ancestry for many years in my family history research, but one of my most rewarding experiences came recently while researching a family history for a book.
Through records found on Ancestry, I was able to trace a branch of the family that had emigrated to the United States from Latvia more than a century ago. Over the generations, contact between that branch and relatives elsewhere in the world had been completely lost.
The research led to living descendants who had not known of each other's existence. Contact was established, family stories and photographs were exchanged, and relatives separated by generations and continents were able to meet one another for the first time through a Zoom gathering.
For me, this is what family history research is really about. It is not simply finding names and dates in old records; sometimes those records can reconnect people in the present. Ancestry helped make that possible.
I have not received my results, despite asking for them numerous times and sending in a replacement test

Make sure you really check the info in Ancestry as I have found a lot of transcription errors. I currently use another website in conjuction with Ancestry because Ancestry is lacking particularly in non christian records. I also think there the DNA results are not completely true, because in my case, it is currently showing the same father connection for both my father and his brother even though they had different fathers.

The frequent information sent to me about potential ancestors has enabled me to learn much about my ancestors and the areas that they came from. The information is available from so many different sites, docs etc that I am able to triangulate for authenticity.
Ancestry has opened up the always unknown Pandora’s box. I’ve now traveled to countries to stand where my ancestors were and met family members that are so incredible that I would never of met.
Being from Australia you presume you are a convict - turns out no convicts
Using the ancestry.com.au DNA back-engine to confirm inter-relationships between extended members of my overall family has been very valuable. For certain well-established family lines with known connections, the common DNA confirmed what was already known using paper-trails and usual methods. For previously unknown lines it has been invaluable. So far, I have found at least five first cousins who were totally unknown.
We paid for a kit for myself Fay Stokes and my husband Torvald Fonsboel same address 6 Station Lane Williamstown Melbourne Australia. My husband never received his advice. I was asked to go again as my first attempt wasn't successful. Redid the saliva test sent it back but have not received anyt advice either.

Easy to follow web pages. Lots of records available, although I get a little annoyed when looking at family trees that others have posted, you select the set of trees that has the family, open one of them, and when your finished it takes you back to the original screen that shows the trees with similar surname and you then have to start again, selecting that name that has the trees associated to it, instead of stay with that set from the start., otherwise, its a great site
Overall, enjoy using the Ancestry site, however, I find it annoying when updating information is updated.
Previously, when you added a new hint to a person, you used to be able to view their spouse and children on the same page. Now one has to jump back and forth to confirm that one has the right person.
Overall, enjoy using the site and receiving hints every week.

Hints are a great idea as most of my ancestors are in UK and we cannot keep travelling to there every time we receive new information.

Have been able to find many new ancestors and have connected with many new cousins. Still have one brick wall. It may never get broken down.
I would like to be able to edit my own known relationship if your options don't cover what I know to be correct
I found out more about my family members confirming my thoughts.
