I’m extremely disappointed with my experience at CIBC.
Without any prior notice, my credit limit was reduced from $6,000 to $600 , a drastic and unjustified change. I only discovered this when I was trying to make an important purchase and suddenly found my credit unavailable.
What makes this even more frustrating is that I have maintained a strong credit score, always paid my balance on time, and have never missed or delayed a payment. After over 2.5 years as a loyal customer, this decision feels not only unfair but frankly disrespectful.
It’s also surprising that while the bank sends frequent notifications for promotions and marketing, there was absolutely no communication regarding such a critical change to my account.
To make matters worse, even new customers are often approved for higher credit limits than what mine was reduced to. That makes this decision even harder to understand or justify.
I expected better transparency and respect from CIBC. This experience has seriously impacted my trust in the bank.

These people froze my account after I told them when I opened my account that I would be depositing around $1,000 every month and I deposited $975. I was given 5 different stories as to why it was frozen and I asked how I can get it unfreeze and closed. I was very upset because my rent was now late and I had no money to get to work so naturally I was pissed off. They closed my account after 1 month and took2 months worth of fees. I warn everyone to avoid this bank like the plaque.

Long wait time and take seven days if you want to get cash from bank. I called to make sure that money should be sent to my bank so that I can withdraw it. Customer assistance told me that it will take seven business days to process it.

CIBC is notorious for terrible customer service. No matter if you're in person or if you're trying to get a hold of them on the phone, unbelievable wait times, people that don't speak correct English with heavy accents, dropping phone calls, transferring you to different departments, transferring you back to the main menu. It's frustrating and ridiculous. I don't even know why I have an account ..it's just through Costco they forced us to have a CIBC account to link credit card.
Absolutely cannot stand this Bank and based on their reviews which are primarily one star neither can anybody else. Terrible bank, terrible service, highly recommend to stay away from them. Go for RBC they have amazing service and communication.

Cannot access my money
I have been extremely frustrated with cibc. November 2022, they wouldn’t let me set up to verify online banking with an alternative (out of country) phone number while I was away for a year. Leaving me to pay obscene Canadian out of country cell phone fees to keep my money safe. I’ve spoken with them about the issue and there’s no fix.
Also, the mobile app was out ALL DAY yesterday. Now I’m trying to transfer money to my Wise account (a travel need) and the mobile app won’t connect with Wise, and it’s a SIXTY minute wait to talk to a human. I feel my money is trapped by their horrible IT!

i wish zero stars. Horrible service. no thought for customers. my card was compromised. ok. but i’m travelling away from home and nowhere close to a cibc bank to get a replacement in next week or so. i asked if they would send a new card to an address where im staying ( different province ).

CIBC services has significantly deteriorated
Last year, I requested a change to my RESP account, but I was informed that CIBC could not accommodate this request. I then attempted to contact my local branch and schedule appointments, but encountered considerable confusion and lack of clarity on their side.
Following my complaint, a brief investigation was conducted, and I was promised that the issue would be resolved. Although I received several follow-up calls that sounded promising, no concrete action was taken. I subsequently asked for my complaint to be reopened, but my message was ignored.
In February, I requested to transfer my RESP account to another bank. However, the transfer was not initiated until I followed up to ask about the status. When I called in April, I was informed that there were no records or information regarding my request.
Based on my long-term experience with CIBC, I feel that the quality of their services has significantly deteriorated. I just cannot trust this bank anymore.
COSTCO fumbled the Ball recommending CIBC
The Credit card Costco recommends...the CIBC MasterCard is terrible. It does not show me the balance due, and will not allow autopay. CIBC is the lowest of the 5 big banks...no wonder. I am surprised COSTCO deals and pushes us to the worst of the 5 big banks????

CIBC Costco Credit Card and Simplii Financial have the worst customer service ever! Both don't listen, reps give attitude and are rude. When you complain, they don't take it seriously. This one guy from "Client Care" Shawn Brignolio has a massive ego complex and is also a complete biased tool! Debanked me for making a complaint from rude staff. Screw these losers! Im going to their competitors and letting everyone know to close their accounts and not sign up with them.

I called in and got connected to Diana and Monika honestly didn't expect much but wow, they completely surprised me. Diana (supervisor) was so helpful and patient, really took the time to understand my situation. Monika was great too. These are exactly the kind of people you want when you're stressed and need real help. CIBC needs more Dianas and Monikas in customer relations. Thank you both so much!

I would strongly advise against using this bank due to the $16.95 monthly fee that makes it hard to really save anything in your checking account. ANY bank that has a fee higher that 5-10.00 is a damn thief and we as bank users deserve better and more respect.

Why are you holding people's checks? And for 5 days is absolutely ridiculous. I have NEVER had an refund check held at any other bank i have or have had. I think i made a huge mistake going with Cibc.
