Do NOT Visit Scotland in an EV...
..if you go off the main road network and need charging with ChargePlaceScotland. We are now stuck after 3 different chargers failed with the app. None allowed contactless - a special rfid card is needed on the older chargers. Even with rebooting/resetting by the operator it failed to charge. And a £40 deposit for each attempt. Now stuck miles from any other charger. Hearsay says they've messed up the app and it's showing chargers it's not compatible with or if it is it doesn't initiate charging.
This is a national disgrace for Scotland.
Would give zero stars
New to EVs and had no idea just how challenging it would be living in Scotland and trying to charge my car. I’ve tried 3 times in the last two days to charge via CPS chargers using PAYG as the app won’t let me register for some reason or order an RFID card. Charged 3x£35 preauthorisation fees on chargers that stated they were available but then an ‘error’ occurred and no charging commenced. Apparently I have to wait what could be up to 30 days for a refund!!
Reluctant to try again as how many people can afford for £35 just to be pumped out of their account continuously on the hope ones car ‘might’ be charged.
Having seen all the terrible reviews I’m so shocked this is allowed to happen and to continue for so long. Surely the government need to step in and do something asap. Whomever is running this project needs to be sacked pronto and this important infrastructure given to someone… literally anyone else.
I cannot believe how bad my first…
I cannot believe how bad my first experience with Charge Place Scotland was today. On a short trip to Aberfeldy for New Year with friends. Downloaded the app before coming and created an account, so I thought that I would be ready to go. How wrong I was. Tried multiple times to get a charge point to work but simply wouldn’t work, and all the time I was having hundreds of pounds in my account being put on hold. When I noticed, I called them up and spoke to someone who clearly didn’t care and who actually laughed when I asked for my money to be released. Truly appalling. Cannot wait to get south of the border again.
Awful!!
Awful!!! Tried to charge up, after plugging in and validating my payment through the app it said the plug was unavailable and did not charge. I then tried the other plug and went back and forth several times....not knowing they would deduct £35 each time....they now have £385 of my money! I'm not happy about having to wait 5 days either for it to be refunded. Absolutely ridiculous charging system. Thankfully only in Scotland for a break and don't have to deal with this horrendous supplier which seems to have the monopoly on ev chargers.
Grim initiation for new EV owners.
New EV owner and transition using CPS has been horrible. I've been successful less than 1/3 if the time and a hold is placed on the money each individual time you attempt to charge. The hold is not always cleared quickly either. One week there was over £200 held on my account while I'd managed to get less than £30 of charge. Issue is clearly with the payments system and communication with the charging points as not having this issues with other networks.
Horrific
Horrific. Couldn’t get on chargers due to Electroverse compatibility made to order their own RFID card and it does not work either. A lot of their chargers broken no sign of repairs being done. Got a charge this morning after calling in, jumped back in vehicle and it booted me off again. Horrendous company and unfortunately in my area they seem to have all the monopoly on chargers. If I could give them zero I would. Absolute shambles if you can avoid their chargers do so.
Terrible Monopoly on Scottish Chargers
This company exemplifies exactly why government should leave commercial businesses to run services and especially technology. Chargers all over Scotland that don’t work. Chargers that are already out of date needing an RFID card that you have to buy for £12 and it takes months to arrive! Atrocious.
Just awful app and process
Just awful, app does not work properly raised what are known issues about getting payment detaisl setup near 6-months back and, when you phone the helpline (very polite people) I hear that they are still working on problems. Have to use web site along with the app and it is a bureaucratic mess that has clearly not been properly tested. In this day and age if you had developers working on this doing so poorly you would end their contract and source a new supplier who knows what they are doing and properly tests things. Very unfair as this is public money being wasted and poorly invested
Worst charging experience (pun intended)
I tried charging my EV with chargeplecescotland. The charging station was broken, and I got in touch and they told me to use the other chargers next to it, which were broken too. Four attempts later and I got a grand total of no charge for 4 times £35!!!! On top of that, you cannot use the app to charge as it is totally useless. It's really a scandal that they are the public provider.
No RFID card
No RFID card. Ordered 2 weeks ago so I am going to Chargeback as I paid by Debit Card. Reading all the other reviews about Charge Place Scotland looks like they ring fence your money and then don't give it back.
I will just charge at home which does not cost 47p per Kw hour. Thank you
Beware of Charge Point Scotland,
I am so annoyed with Charge point Scotland. I tried to charge my car at The Pivot Centre North Lanarkshire at the fast charger, the company tried to connect me and couldn't. I took out my lead and connected to the slow AC charger, after 3+ hours my car had 100 miles on it, I was charged £30.00 for staying over 45mins... this is outrageous just another way of making money. Disgraceful don't touch this company, you have been warned. I was £62.50 to put 100 miles on my car. Its a money making scam !!!
AVOID LIKE A PLAGUE!
AVOID LIKE A PLAGUE!
They will charge you £40 any time you try to use it. And often the machine isn't working properly. They took £120 off my account and 5 days later I still don't have it back!!! The App doesn't work and you can't even register an account. Their customer services are trained to say they can't do anything, and in the meantime, it's you that will be out off pocket! Outraging!
The app is shocking
The app is shocking. It doesn't work and you cant reset it. It contanstly kicks you out.
The charge stations are a toss of the coin whether they switch on or not.
Woeful…
If the Scottish Government had any competence they'd be all over Chargeplace Scotland and sort out both the network and the provider.
The App in particular is woeful and not fit for purpose.... painfully slow, doesn't show previous charging sessions, map search function worse than useless, keeps opening saying it's sent a code to your email address, which it doesn't. The reviews on the App store say it all!
3rd world technology.
Thank goodness I only lease an EV. At the end of the lease period I will be reverting to petrol.
Nice to see they're serious about saving the planet with such abysmal infrastructure, technology and support.
Shocking holding fee charge!
I used to use these chargers for my electric car but now chargeplace scotland have decided to take a £40 holding fee and have the cheek to take the price of the charge also! They dont refund the holding fee and give it back for 7 days, absolutely shocking service, I prefer to use the EV charge points at starbucks etc now. Get this sorted Chargeplace Scotland no need.
Terrible
Terrible. Avoid at all costs. Over 10 pre authorisations, still not refunded for only 2 charges that worked.
Unfit to operate
I'm new to electric cars, but I'm shocked how bad Chargeplace Scotland is.
If the government want people to move over to EVs they need to offer a reliable app, service and chargers.
The app is constantly crashing or unavailable. I've had to phone in a few times for assistance when the app has crashed and I can't stop a charge.
Sometimes I've not been able to start charge as I can't log in. The app wants to send an activation code, but it wants to send it to someone else's email address.
I've been trying to start a charge and had numerous £40 deductions trying to start the charge. It turns out even though the chargers are listed on the app, and there is no information on the charger saying otherwise, the charger can't be controlled by the app. It is RFID card only.
If it's not connected to the app how does it attempt to start and deduct £40 each time?
So many of the chargers are broken.
The app can't navigate to the charging stations.
The app defaults to Edinburgh as the location. I've to manually work out where I am.
There is not one aspect of the Chargeplace Scotland service that is acceptable. It's unbelievably bad.
Duplicate charge for charging car at an…
Duplicate charge for charging car at an Aberdeen CCS charger. Same price for 2 different days 3 days apart. Complained to their so called help desk to no avail. Provided evidence from my bluelink app. Showing car was not charged on the 2nd date. Both charges exactly same price and wattage. Basically stolen money with no goods provided.
Refuse to refund blaming me. Useless.
If I could give no stars I would.
Never had such a frustrating experience
Had to give one star because I can’t give none.
Due to a failure in there app they ring fenced over a 100 pounds, money I needed, gave me no charge and have not responded to any of the numerous emails I’ve sent.
This from an organisation that works on behalf of Transport Scotland.
Their intransigence, I guess is that they have the monopoly on chargers in the town and the nearest chargers are miles away.
It should also be noted that within the town, they charge different rates per KWH, different minimum fees and different overstay charges. There is no continuity of service or charging policy.
Utterly frustrating and disappointing. This company is shambolic to say the least
Absolute shambles of a company
Absolute shambles of a company. Changed from paying monthly to pay when you charge. Then you get invoices through charging for a time 4 weeks previously when you thought you paid. Chargers are broke and take weeks to fix, then only work a few days and out of service again.
