The following review information has been provided to two Attorneys General with screenshots, email proof, and additional Client identifying data via open claims in two states that can be requested publicly, and is also being filed with an additional 48 states Attorneys General.

I worked for this company for 10 years as an author (contractor). I am also a news journalist (MA, MI), and also an award-winning author of speculative fiction with 2 publishing houses (published in fiction since 2011 and with news outlets since 1980). While I was working for Textbroker and right after I was invited by them to "test-out" for the highest quality level (5) that authors can be rated at on their site, I had one of their low-pay Team-Board Clients repeatedly accuse me of not writing articles to spec when I submitted (I kept the originals that I submitted to them because once TB takes your account access away you have no access to proof of what's going on in their offices). I was not at fault either of the times in question, which I reported to Textbroker HQ editorial staff first, and I have proven this to the Attorneys Generals' claims dept.) The low-pay client (who was repeatedly asking me to revise articles for unsubstantiated reasons, even after I contacted them to point out that my material was not inaccurate but written "to the letter" using the instructions they'd provided me). Unfortunately, a client's accusations affect an Author in 2 important ways, one legal, the other quality rating. To explain: In the process of their accusing me of submitting inaccurate articles, they repeatedly decreased one of the quality measures that potential direct-order Clients on the Textbroker site use to decide whether to hire you at high-paying rates for articles and B2B white papers etc. This quality measurement is called "Revision Request Percentage."
Now, this is not just inconvenient, understand that it affects potential work that equals 5-20x in Payout what you are making with the aforementioned low-pay writing board clients that are considered "good" by Textbroker at $5 for a 400-word article. (You can see why losing a $37 direct order in-process at the time I was libeled is more sought after than Clients paying $4-6 for the same thing?) Textbroker allowed their low-pay writing Team Client to abuse author revision privileges. When I reported to TB that Client was repeatedly accusing me of inaccurate material (Libel) and wasn't responding to inquiries as to why, Texbroker closed my acct in the middle of the night in response to my email. I had Pay Owed me & a $37 order open & in progress) and was told that "inappropriate communication" was the closure reason. Understand this is an account that has existed with this company for 10 Years. This agency's lack of oversight of their Clients and their own actions of allowing clients to commit Libel, and that I was not following spec of writing orders requested is unprofessional and illegal. Even contractors have employment rights in the United States. That may not be true in other countries that have no consumer protection where TB also employs contractors and contracts with clients, but there are employment laws in every state in the U.S. to prevent a contractor from being treated illegally. Libel and slander are not permitted regardless of the type of employment.
Textbroker allowed Libel, violated their own internal basic business policies and violated author rights by allowing false claims from a Client, making false claims of their own, closing my account w/o notice outside business hours, preventing access to proof corroborating my assertions, and they allowed their internal Clients to commit Libel against a contractor of theirs, and also to abuse business revision privileges, and finally, allowed their clients to violate internal policies and internal contractual obligations w/Textbroker, as well.

SCAM - Avoid - they will steal your money.

I have an order that's been open with them for about 10 days - twice the processing time I specified. Supposedly the status is 'Author is writing' but I think they've actually just taken my money and ran.

Not that I would have any clue as Textbroker are totally unreachable by phone or email. Sent several emails without reply, the UK phone number they gave just goes to an answering machine that says they can only be reached Monday to Friday 9-5. Except this was the exact time I was calling, so no idea why they didn't pick up. Presumably, there is no one there and this is some kind of front company. Best avoided if you want to keep hold of your money... thankfully I didn't drop too much here!

Disclaimer: I am not a writer, I've been purchasing articles on TB for a very long time now. I have spent a lot of money on the platform and the only thing they care about is how to exploit writers and squeeze every last penny out of everyone involved.

Their product is broken (the messaging system DOESN'T WORK), they don't care if it is usable, they monitor every conversation, they add extra words to orders so they can claim the difference and they are not flexible with payments.

Despite being somewhat useful if you are searching for a quick order, they are completely useless and rely on dodgy tactics to survive.

I'm with the other review. This is coming from the viewpoint of someone who has been there for almost 10 years. This site was probably not that good even when I started, but it was a little better than it is now. Even when I started, I would read complaints in the forum about how Textbroker craps on the authors.

Over the years, they have gotten quite shady. Every now and then your article will be sent back to you with a claim that it is identical to another article, even though the article is on a completely different topic than the one you have written. The only identical parts of the article are common phrases (Because of the... If the...)

Then the verification process takes way longer than they say it will. You're supposed to wait 15 days at the most, but you are going to have to wait at least two months. Also, they will want you to repeat the process every now and then just because they feel like it.

I've even heard complaints from the clients which is surprising because according to what I've read in the author forums, Textbroker would happily screw over and throw the authors under the bus to appease even the shady clients (the ones that take the article and post it on their site and then request a revision and/or reject it).

One good thing, if you are a fast writer, you can make a little bit of money on the site. Heck, you can actually make a full time income. I've made more on this site than I ever had with any other job. However, they will close your account just because they feel like it. They will just make false claims. Steer clear.
