NOPE. SCAM FOR BUYBACKS.
They claim that the book I sent them for buyback was not in good condition and further said that if I wanted it back, it would cost almost $9.00. The book is very small, soft cover and exceptionally light. That prices for shipping is unacceptable. The book was nearly new. I barely cracked it open. There were no access codes that came with the book or any other issues that would have prevented them from selling it. I didn't write in it, or bend pages. Judging from similar complaints and stories around I have read about them I am quite sure this is a scam. I wish I had read reviews prior to engaging with them. I could have given the book to someone rather than being taken advantage of by this company.
They are liars
They are liars, they recieved my textbook and said "We have received the shipment for order 0086964. However, we are not able to buy Art History, Combined Volume (4th Edition). The book is marked "Examination Copy". It is against our policy to purchase any books marked this way.
Your new total is :$00.00
If we do not receive a reply within the next 10 days, the book will be recycled. If you want your book returned to you, you will have to pay return shipping. Please reply to this email for more information."
THEY SCAMMED MY BOOK!!!!
THEY ONLY DESERVES NEGATIVE STAR IF THERE IS ONE
If you buy book from here
If you buy book from here, you will lose your money. They show one edition and one color but sell others. Be careful, this is very very bad for your. If you return, they will not refund your shipping cost.
Textbooks.com is fraud for student.
horrible
horrible, I got a book that took more than 4 days to arrive and some pages of the textbook are missing, never using it again
Scam!!
A few months ago I did a buyback with them for roughly 300$. Using their prepaid shipping label I sent back an entire box of books hoping to receive my money as promised. The package got "lost" in the mail and the post office said that the company gave me a non existent tracking number. The package up and disappeared. Then textbooks.com gave me a new tracking number (the actual) and the package still was not found. The post office stated that since no insurance was purchased that they could not do anything about it. Textbooks.com told me that I should have purchased insurance on my own! It was prepaid shipping, why would I have to purchase insurance on my own?!! Either way, they were no help whatsoever and 300$ worth of textbooks disappeared and I did not receive any money from them!! Terrible business and customer service sucks! Do not use them!!!
Stay Away
I ordered a two volume set books from this website but I received only volume one. The title was the "complete works", without specifying the volume. So I assumed there should be two volumes. I checked the ISBN and it was the same as the two volume set's ISBN. Also they didn't mention anywhere (in their description or the title) that it is only volume one.
I should also mention that the price for this volume one was higher than a new one (same publication, same edition, etc.).
Strange thing is that I don't have access to that page anymore!
They have a return policy that you can return the book within 30 days of purchase, and I received the book 21 days after purchase, so I had only 9 days to return it. So I had to pay more for shipping.
It's been more than a week that they have received the book back and I haven't got any confirmation or refunds. They don't even reply my email (both seller and textbooks.com).
Also there is no way for customers to rate the sellers.
The book arrived the next day and in …
The book arrived the next day and in good condition.
The Worst
the absolute worst. i have sold many books to online book stores and this was my first and only time i shall ever have any dealings with this company. i sold them a brand new text book never used or even taken from the book shelf after i purchased it. it had its original cd with it and you could not of bought a better condition book from the publisher. so i sent the book (big mistake) and it took forever for them to send the conformation email of recite. they then described the book as damaged, right then i knew i had made a big mistake dealing with this company. i requested the return of the book as i am not happy selling anything damaged. the postage quoted was outrageous but i paid it. only to find the book had supposedly delivered to me some weeks later through ups. the book was never delivered. i have found this company to be very very slow abrupt and i now believe dishonest. i can only suggest to anyone reading this to avoid this company at all cost. you can find GOOD companies that handle buying and selling text books professorially. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM. unless you want to throw your money away stay away.
Take it from someone who knows
Okay, look, I've worked for these people so I know the score. If you want a good experience when buying a book stay away from Marketplace. If the book is under Marketplace and the seller is listed as anyone other than Textbooks.com it's not coming from them, it's coming from a third party. Marketplace is slow, limited, and depending on the seller the quality of books is all over the place. Another thing: if you're ordering a book for a class use the ISBN on your syllabus. If you just do a title search there are so many different versions of the same edition it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack, publishers do this deliberately and it's absolutely maddening being on the other end of the phone line trying to figure out which book a customer needs without the ISBN. I know people get frustrated. Guess what? So do the customer service reps trying to help you. If you're looking into selling a book, again you need to actually READ the policy, it's on the website. If you're quoting a book that says "with access" anywhere in the description and you know that the access code is either gone, or exposed (doesn't matter if you used it or not, exposed=invalid) it's not going to fly. Just don't bother, you'll be wasting everyone's time. The policy doesn't specifically say "access codes must be sealed" under selling textbooks, but it does say that supplemental components need to be included in original condition, that means access too. Nothing on the website is going to flash in big red letters that you need to include the access code, it just doesn't, and it's super frustrating. Don't scream at the customer service rep or threaten them with a bad review. They have no control over any of this, you're literally just screaming at someone in a cubical who is desperately trying to feed their kids and pay rent. As with anything you do online read the fine print, find the policy, ask questions. If something isn't clear, or you're iffy about it just shoot them an e-mail.
False FREE 2nd Day Air Advertisement
Be aware that "textbooks.com" tries to lure you into purchasing books from them using a "Free 2nd day Air shipping" advertising. Then when you order, they will end up sending Regular 7 days shipping. I needed it urgently and their false claim got me penalized in class for not having it on time. If I had known I would had purchased it somewhere else. After I presented the claim, they stated that although they do have the 2nd Day Air promotion, that I had chosen the Free Shipping option at checkout which is not the same. That was not the case as I was very careful and even did a screenshot of the order before I placed it just in case something like this happened, and it did. So, just keep this in mind if you also get lured with the false advertisement of a FREE 2nd Day Air Shipping promotion.
The absolute best for selling used books
As a book scout, I deal with many vendors: textbooks.com (in Missouri) is the absolute best, offering prices which are often 2-3x higher than their competitors. Free shipping via UPS, low rejection rates, & fast payment via PayPal makes them a no-brainer.
GreatBookPrices
Order placed on 08/24/16 and not notified until 08/30/16 that order could not be filled. Credit card charged immediately no refund to credit card yet.
One of my favorites
I've been doing business with this company for several years now and have never had any sort of issues with them. Of all the book-buying companies, this one is one of my favorites.
Payment is always sent out quickly and shows up in my PayPal with no problems. They rarely reject a book for "poor" condition. I don't think I've ever to contact customer service for any reason. I highly recommend this company if you want to sell back your used books.
I don't think its reliable!
I used Textbooks.com one time. I don't think its reliable. They said some of my most expensive books were damaged. They also evaluated as "Used" a book that I didn't send. How can it be possible? A book that I didn't send is in good condition to be sold and the most expensive is not? For sure, they put the most expensive as "damaged" because they don't want to pay. I have friends that sent books to textbooks.com and they are having the same problem. Textbooks.com classified their expensive books as "damaged" and they only paid for the cheaper books.
When I called them, they said I have spilled water in my book. That is not possible. I have never spilled water in my book and I wrapped all my books in plastic to make sure that they wont be damaged when I sent the books. Now they want me to PAY to send me back my book.
I am very disappointed and unsatisfied with Textbooks.com. I will never sell or to buy books in this website again.
They are gonna try to steal your money!
I have sent 10 books for them quoted in $52. When my books arrived there, they have inspected my books and classified 6 of 10 books as DAMAGED, just paying me $15. All my books were in very good conditions and some of them were totally new. After I asked why my books were considered as damaged ones, they answered me that "they had too many MANY PAGES W/ ANSWERS FILLED IN and they won't able to be resold". Of course it was, because my books were used. A book can be considered "DAMAGED" if they are ripped, dirty, damaged with beverages and so forth. My classmates have bought books in very bad conditions with many pages written from TextBooks.com. What a contradictory detail, isn't it? After I have requested to give my books back, they answered that they are going to sent back only half of the books for $17. Such a trouble I am stuck in.
I'd like to leave my thankfulness for CKY Books, RentText and BookItBuyBack. They are very good companies to resell your books!
Little control over their marketplace sellers
Purchased a textbook for my son through Textbooks.com marketplace. Their vendor was GreatBookPrices. I purchased the book on 12/22 with it to be shipped from MD to MA. When the book had not arrived by early January, I first contacted Textbooks.com who said that they had no control or oversight over their marketplace sellers (big help). I contacted, by e-mail, GreatBookPrice who autoresponded. Through an exhaustive internet search, I was able to find a telephone number. I was told that the book was not shipped from MD but instead CA. I never would have purchased from them if I knew that it was to be shipped from CA. The tracking number supplied was bogus so there was no proof that it even shipped. The book finally arrived on 1/15, two days after my son returned to school. Beware of buying through Textbooks.com marketplace or with GreatBookPrice.
