I’ve been a customer of Rich Tone for the past ten years. The staff have always been incredibly helpful and friendly, and the customer service has always been impeccable. I’ve bought new and used gear from here, had a warranty repair done, sold gear. My experiences have always been fantastic. Prices are reasonable and in line with the fact the need to pay staff and building costs. It’s run by a lovely bunch of people and is an no-pressure environment; I’m so glad that they have managed to survive through some very tough times. I feel so lucky to have this great shop on my doorstep and usually do my utmost to make others aware of it so that I can support it, continue to have it available for my own needs, and help other to find the gear they are looking for or a reliable place to sell/trade their own gear.

I have bought from them before and was extremely happy with my purchase which was done over the internet. This time I decided to pay them a visit to part ex for another guitar. Truly excellent people, knowledgeable, professional and very friendly. An excellent buyer experience and I would have no hesitarion in using them again!

I recently sold 6 guitars to Rich Tone and found it to be a very quick and easy experience - the hardest thing was boxing them up.
Bear in mind you have to finance your own boxes - you can buy them from them or source them locally which is what I did - there's plenty of info online about correct boxing too.
On initial contact they gave me a fair and honest quote - they said what they would probably sell them for and, considering they're a business with overheads to pay, I thought my quotes were more than reasonable.
Communication was really excellent at every step of the way (and all the guys knew their stuff too) and when my guitars arrived with them and were appraised I was paid immediately what I was quoted with no mucking about.

After an online valuation I traveled over to Richtone and felt at ease right away. They had a look at my guitar and agreed on the previous, very fair, valuation. After spending some time looking around the store and having a few chats with the guys there, I picked up a lovely second hand acoustic and went home happy with a new toy and some money in my bank. I'll give them first refusal if I decide I need to change some gear in the future. Very good experience with no BS.

Traded in a 12 string for a Fretless bass. Fair prices for both and the whole process was fairly painless. Would use again.

I recently purchased an excellent used classical guitar from Richtone music. The staff were both attentive but also allowed me plenty of time to assess several guitars. I was plesently surprised with grade trade value for another item and was given a good used case to take the guitar home. I highly recommend this excellent store with highly knowledgeable staff.

An accurate and fair price was quoted online within hours and when I took them to Sheffield, I was treated with courtesy and professionalism. I got a few comparative quotes to sell a load of guitar gear. Rich Tone gave me the best price. I chose to drive up rather than post everything. The staff in the shop were expecting me, friendly, efficient, and honoured the prices they'd quoted. I highly recommend them. And the shop itself has an amazing range of stock.

UPDATE FOLLOWING RICH TONE’S RESPONSE – 26 AUGUST 2026

Unfortunately, Rich Tone’s response reinforces my disappointment, particularly regarding the manner in which they deal with supposedly “valued” customers.

I have spent thousands of pounds in Rich Tone’s store over several years. That previous loyalty and trust were precisely why I chose to make a four-hour round trip from Burnley rather than purchase from another retailer. Yet their response contains no meaningful acknowledgement of that long-standing relationship, the distance I travelled or the genuine communication failure that occurred.

Instead, it focuses on portraying me as having “refused” to check my emails. That is incorrect. I was actively trying to locate the relevant thread on my phone. Because I needed sufficient battery for my two-hour journey home, I asked whether any discrepancy subsequently confirmed in writing could be refunded remotely. I was told that I would have to make another four-hour round trip. The fact that I declined the offer of a charger does not address that unreasonable position and is irrelevant to the central issues raised.

Their response also fails to explain why numerous emails involving several members of staff resulted in materially different understandings of the transaction; why I had to renegotiate after travelling more than two hours to complete what I genuinely understood to be a pre-agreed straight swap; or why I was told that my Fender would retail for “around £500” when justifying its part-exchange value, only for my actual amplifier to be advertised shortly afterwards for £599.

Saying that advertised prices may differ from eventual selling prices does not resolve that discrepancy. The relevant comparison is between the approximately £500 retail figure quoted to justify my valuation and the subsequent £599 advertised price. The £30 reduction on the Vox is an entirely separate matter.

I accept that Rich Tone believes its emails were clear. My experience was that the agreement was not sufficiently clear to prevent the entire transaction being renegotiated when I arrived. That is precisely the communication failure described in my original review.

A constructive response acknowledging the confusion, my previous loyalty and the valuation discrepancy might have restored some confidence. Instead, Rich Tone’s response has further demonstrated why a customer who has spent thousands of pounds with them over the years no longer feels valued and will not return.

I sold a guitar and a cab to Rich Tone Music. The gave a very fair price (I got quotes from several other dealers and Rich Tone offer significantly more than the others. They organised collection of of the items and it all went smoothly. I received payment within 24 hours of the items being collected. Very happy with the service and would definitely use again.

I sold my Martin acoustic to Richtone recently. I made contact with the team by email for a quote - which I thought was more than fair. The staff we super helpful! They arranged for a courier to collect the guitar the next day, and stayed in touch throughout the whole process. Less than 24 hours after the guitar was collected, the quoted money was in my account!

It’s such a fantastic service - and wish I’d tried it sooner, rather than listing it on various sites and waiting for buyers who haggle and haggle….

All in all, a real eye opener in just how easy and quick it can be to sell guitar and music gear.
