The sim arrived super fast

The sim arrived super fast, instructions were clear (although I haven't left my country yet so I hope it will work fine in Japan). I thought it was more straight forward and was surprised I had to enter special data in the settings for using an android.

I have never used an eSim before

I have never used an eSim before, nor had I travelled to Japan, but Mobal made both very easy and straightforward.

The price was excellent compared to using my network's own process for phone usage in Jaapan, and the instructions for installing the eSim were straightforward and easy to follow (my advice would be to do this at home with a WiFi connection, or failing that use hotel/cafe WiFi to do the set up). When I landed in Japan, I had instant connection as soon as I turned my phone back on, and it worked perfectly throughout the 10 days of my trip no matter where I was in Tokyo or Osaka, even on the underground metro.

Mobal helped enhance my trip no end, making it easy to use my mobile for all the services I would usually use back home and to stay in touch with friends in county.

I honestly cannot recommend Mobal enough.

Mobal network provider is great for…short stay and long stay travelers including frequent travelers to Japan. Their connectivity is great having to utilize the nations top network provider!

Mobal network provider is great for frequent travellers to Japan; they also provide excellent service to those short stay tourist either using a physical or e-sim user. If you are not a techie person like me; it can help to go over the tips provided; and for those who plans to avail of their monthly service; my suggestion is if you are entering Japan in the later part of the month; if you can, you may choose to avail on the next business day of the month so your coverage will be maximize.

Delivered to wrong address by local service.

I received no local tracking or updates for more than a week after the parcel arrived in Australia. When I contacted local DHL for assistance they told me they couldn't help me because I am not the sender. When I contacted Modal they took 3 days to respond and their advice was that I could purchase another card. Not helpful. Then Australia Post delivered the parcel to the wrong address - their delivery photo shows a mailbox which is clearly not ours. Now I'm in another country with no sim card. Thanks for nothing.

edit: Mobal have since followed up and provided a full refund, with explanation of the replacement process and options. Good service. Thank you.

We were not previously aware that the package had been delivered to the wrong address as the correct address was provided to the courier and this was not mentioned in the tracking information. Delivery errors of this type are out of our control unfortunately but we have contacted you again via email to discuss this further and hopefully provide a solution.

As discussed via email, we also apologize for any confusion regarding the replacement option but as mentioned, we are happy to provide a replacement if service is still required!

just worked. except Apple Messages.

once it was installed & activated, it just worked. except it would not received texts via Apple Messages; i had to swap in my USA esim for a few minutes to get an approval code. it needs to be able to work with Apple Messages. other than that, i didn't even notice it. a good sign.
activating it was a pain until i got decent airport wifi. i think instructions need to be clearer for inexperienced people. i installed it at home (USA) but that didn't fix the problem of activation.

As you have noted, internet access may be required for some of the initial activation steps (as you are required to access the account to submit an activation request or to retrieve the installation details in some cases). This is out of our control unfortunately but we do of course apologize for the inconvenience.

With regards to the iMessage feature, we are sorry for any frustration this may have caused! Unfortunately however, the verification steps you were required to complete (after switching to the Mobal eSIM) are due to the security protocols for Apple handsets and regrettably, this is also out of our control.

WORST COMPANY IN THE UNIVERSE AVOID AT ALL COSTS, NEVER USE

This is the worst company I have ever used. Avoid Mobal at all costs.
Their pricing is completely unreasonable. Calls are charged at absurd rates, far beyond what you would expect from any modern carrier. For what you pay, the service quality is unacceptable.
Mobile data is unreliable and often does not work at all. Even with correct setup, the connection fails, leaving you with a phone that cannot perform basic functions. This defeats the entire purpose of having a mobile plan.
For a company operating in a country with advanced mobile infrastructure, the experience feels outdated and poorly managed. There is a clear gap between what they charge and what they actually deliver.
There are far better alternatives available. This service is not worth the cost, the frustration, or the time spent trying to make it work.

Seamless connection with zero stress!

I’ve just landed in Japan and honestly couldn’t be more impressed with this eSIM! The setup was unbelievably quick and easy, I was connected within minutes with zero hassle.

The internet speed has been amazing from the start, super fast and reliable, and everything worked instantly without a single issue. After a long journey, it was such a relief not having to deal with swapping SIM cards or searching for WiFi.

This has made travelling so much smoother and stress-free. I’d 100% recommend this to anyone heading abroad, it’s an absolute game changer!

Disappointing

I contacted customer support about an issue with my SIM card and it took several days to get a reply.

When the response finally arrived, it felt like a template rather than someone actually reading what I wrote.

The message didn’t address my specific question and seemed AI‑generated. I expected faster and more personalised support

Beware Mobal is difficult to

Product was difficult to install, support took hours and days to help. Once the 10 GB data was used the slow data would not even enable me to navigate with Google Maps.

Uninstalling the eSIM caused severe issues with going back to original eSIM.

I will NEVER recommend Mobal. Horrible experience.

Is MOBAl a SCAM ? Not working on three different phone's

It did work last year, no issue's. However, this year, it's NOT working at all. "Voice & Data" does NOT work on two different phone's, eSIM does NOT work on the 3rd phone, even after numerous exchanges with MOBAL Support: I provided all screenshot's, they haven't found anything wrong, and they can't help me further. I wan't my money back !

Absolute utter garbage.

Absolute utter garbage.
I purchased one of their pocket wifi services, simply because I didn't want to bother with a SIM card, and they promised 100GB a month of "high speed internet". It was anything but high speed. Just imagine having to wait 10-15 seconds for a literal Instagram message to send. I felt lucky whenever I got 1% of the speed they promised.
Never in my life will I ever even consider purchasing anything from this scam of a company.

We had taken 2 of their sims

We had taken 2 of their sims . We were based in kashiwa si and then in edogawa. Their service is horrible , most of time i did not get internet and their call rates are much high considering their poor service . I opted for this , for the calling feature but it was a bad decesion.

Second time using Mobal sim

Second time using Mobal sim. Was a little nervous last year when we first used their service but it worked seamlessly. Very happy and again this year using the same service. Highly recommend and happy that they donate profits to charity. Can’t go wrong.

Esim User Warning

I recently changed to a new phone and discovered that Mobal eSIM cannot be transferred to a new device. I had to request a reissue of the eSIM, and this resulted in my Japanese phone number being changed.

This caused serious problems because many Japanese apps require SMS verification linked to the original phone number.

In addition, Mobal charged a reissue fee of 3,300 yen plus another 831 yen, just to change the eSIM, which is quite expensive considering the number may also change.

Because of this, I lost access to several services and had to spend significant time recovering my accounts and many seem that not possible to access anymore. I hope Mobal improves this process or at least clearly warns customers about the risks of using your esim!

Update after Mobal response:

Thank you for your reply. However, the suggestion to contact websites or services to update contact information does not work in practice.
Most people who use Mobal are foreigners who do not have a Japanese residence card or Japanese ID. This is exactly why many choose services like Mobal in the first place.
When my phone number changed unexpectedly because the eSIM could not be transferred to a new device, many Japanese services linked to my account stopped working because they require SMS verification tied to the original phone number.
For example, Mercari replied by email that they cannot provide support regarding account by email. Instead, they directed me to their Help Center and told me to contact them through the website. But that process leads back to account verification requirements, and when access is lost due to a changed phone number, services like Mercari require Japanese ID such as a residence card or Japanese driver’s license.
If users already had those documents, many of us would simply use normal Japanese mobile carriers instead of paying higher prices for services like Mobal.
So telling customers to “contact the websites” is unfortunately not a realistic solution. Changing the phone number due to an eSIM reissue can cause serious and sometimes permanent loss of access to many services.

Good price, excellent connection

I used Mobal during my two-week stay in Japan. Everything worked flawlessly, everywhere I stayed, including Hakuba, Nagano, Matsumoto, and even Jigokudani Monkey Park! Mobal also worked great in the Tokyo subway system, where it was essential. I was also able to connect to apps like Uber very quickly. I will definitely use Mobal on my next trip to Japan!
