Dyson's Terrible Return and Refund Process – A Frustrating Experience

I’m beyond frustrated with Dyson’s return and refund process, and I feel it’s important to share my experience to warn others.

I purchased a Dyson Airwrap during Black Friday, but my husband also bought me the exact same model as a gift. Naturally, I decided to return the one I purchased. When the courier (Purolator) delivered the item on December 3rd, I refused the package right away. According to the tracking information, Purolator returned the product to Dyson’s warehouse on December 4th.

Since then, I’ve contacted Dyson’s customer service twice via phone and once through online chat to check the refund status. Every time, I was told the same scripted response—that I need to wait 14 business days for a refund. I even asked for a confirmation email about the return, but the representatives repeated that I would receive one on the 14th business day—nothing earlier.

Today, after contacting them again, I was finally informed that no return order had even been created for my case. This means that now they’ve only just created the return order, and I’ll have to wait another 2 to 10 business days for the refund to be processed.

I refused the package immediately without even opening it, and Purolator sent it straight back to Dyson’s warehouse. How does this kind of return take so long to process? Dyson had no hesitation to charge my credit card within minutes, yet I’m still stuck waiting weeks—possibly over a month—for my money to be refunded. And the worst part? No one at Dyson seemed to care.

After searching online, I found that I’m not alone—many customers have complained about Dyson’s slow, unorganized, and unhelpful return process. Their responses are always vague and dismissive, basically telling you to “just wait.” How can a company with such a premium reputation operate with such a terrible return system?

This experience has completely ruined my impression of Dyson, and I will never buy directly from their website again.

To anyone considering purchasing from Dyson’s official site—think twice.

I returned my defective Dyson and never got the promised replacement

I contacted oDyson to return my new Dyson vacuum that was not working properly. I was told to send it back to them by Purolator, and they would send me a new one as the part needed was not in stock. They sent me the self addressed box to use to do so. Nine weeks and 3 very long calls later, and I still haven't received the replacement vacuum. They talk nice, all apologetic, but they don't resolve anything.

I am a hair dresser

I am a hair dresser , I purchased a pro sonic dryer few months ago , after one week stoped working . Send it back and got a new one , beginning of December exact on our busy time of work stopped working , after being on The phone for long time finally I was able to send it back , but I really need a hair dryer so I purchased another one , but only worked one day . honestly is this a premium brand or garbage ? Where is the manufacture ? Quality is horrible

Worst customer service I’ve ever…

Worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. Dyson claims to be premium, but it’s all an illusion. The vacuum costs a fortune and only works for a few months. Dyson is truly a scam, selling overpriced and low-quality products. The customer service team has been telling me for 3 weeks that I’m supposed to receive my replacement product. 3 calls, and I keep getting the same answer from a bunch of incompetent people who barely speak English. Worst brand ever. I will never buy Dyson again. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere.

very frustrating customer support...i…

very frustrating customer support...i was notified by purolator that my V8 origin was delivered to my house...i was outside for 3 hours -- zero delivery from purolator came to my house.......when contacting dyson for help...they advised me to wait another 5 biz days for my vacuum...in the meantime dyson has my $564.99 payment...very poor follow-up service to help the paying customer...

I wish I had read these reviews before…

I wish I had read these reviews before purchasing the Dyson V10. We have gone through all of this. First vacuum stops working within 6 months. Numerous calls first to troubleshoot then to try and get a shipping label and Dyson sends us a replacement. Amazing, we're so happy until the replacement stopped working after 2 uses! Call again, troubleshoot again, told it needs a new motor $240!
Still trying to get any kind of resolution but after reading these reviews I won't hold my breath.
Very disappointed. Won't buy again.

The most disappointed I've ever been with any product/business in my entire life.

The dyson airwrap complete styler for hair cost a hefty price tag of $920 and I only used it a couple of times after receiving it as a gift. In the middle of use yesterday, it shut down out of nowhere and broke/will no longer turn on. I did all the troubleshooting Dyson requested I do with no luck - was directed to contact Dyson for a repair or replacement. I spent hours talking to customer service reps on Dysoncanada.ca only for them to leave mid conversation and me having to start all over again with someone new, 3 times - this made the whole experience all the more frustrating. Not to mention, the replies I continued to receive were so so robotic and did not at all ever hardly acknowledge the words I was saying / concerns I had. It felt like talking to a wall.

I was made aware my warranty expired 3 days ago and there was nothing they could do, unless I wanted to send the machine in for repair myself which would likely cost me approx 500$ including shipping. That they could not help me out considering my warranty just expired 72 hours ago, even though I know of many friends who they've made exceptions for when their warranty was 3-6 weeks expired.

Aside from typical large purchases like houses, cars, etc - buying a Dyson product is a massive investment and often one of the priciest things a lot of us will purchase in a lifetime. To have spent almost 1000$ on this and barely get a few uses out if it, and receive no support from customer services is appalling and feels fraudulent.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE OF MY LIFE WITH DYSON

I SENT MY VACUME FOR REPAIR 70 DAYS BEFORE, THEY ASK ME REPAIR COST HOWEVER IT WAS UNDER WARENTY PERIOD. SURPRISINGLY THEY ASK REPAIR COST WHICH WAS 85% OF NEW MACHINE.
EVERYTIME I CALL THEY SAY WE WILL TAKE CAR OF YOU BUT NO RESULT. I SPENT HOUR AND HOURS WITH THEM ON PHONE TO GET MY MACHINE BACK.
I WILL NEVER BUY THEIR PRODUCT

Overpriced. Poor quality. Awful customer service across board post purchase. They waste your time, lie, and does not deliver on their words.

Such a Disappointing Experience

I always thought Dyson was supposed to be the pinnacle of vacuums. Boy was I wrong. Since the layoffs during covid the company has changed for the absolute worst. The customer service is virtually non existent. My 3 year old V10 has completely broken down and their automated excuse that just happens to batteries is completely bogus. Now trying to order a replacement for close to 1000$ you would think delivery shouldn't be an issue, 3 weeks later and i get an email saying my order was cancelled. No service, bad products and total lack of accountability. Real shame as Dyson used to be held in high regards, not anymore. DO NOT RECOMMEND, EVER!!

Customer service lacking knowledge

My first customer service rep was really awful. He kept mis spelling my email even after 5 attempts. His English wasn't thorough. I was so frustrated I hung up and redialed. I'm glad I tried the number again. I got the help I needed to trouble shoot however these operators are basic and can't really figure out a SSID #. My # had 3 extra digits and they just couldn't figure that out. All they had to do was count the digits and drop the last 3 to find my item. But giving it a good rating because the 2nd operator helped me find the proper filter once I explained that the last 3 digits needed to be dropped to fit in their system.

I will NEVER buy a Dyson product again

I will NEVER buy a Dyson product again.

In 2020 bought a Dyson V7 cordless vacuum. At first I was pleased with it but soon found out it was far lower quality than I had expected. While it was still under warranty, the battery failed. It took me several hours on the phone with a tech support person that they finally admitted the battery was faulty. Then they tried to get out of replacing it under warranty because I bought it through Amazon and not directly from Dyson. Eventually, they agreed to provide a new battery under the warranty but said it was out of stock. It took six weeks before they finally sent it and I was without a vacuum all that time.

About a year later, the mini motor head failed. I had to go through the same routine all over again before they finally sent a replacement. The vacuum is now only 4 years old and out of warranty.

Recently it quit working when either the big or mini motor head was installed, but still worked without them. Again, several telephone hours with tech support confirmed that the V7 main body had failed and needed replacement. They quoted me about $200 to replace it but again it was out of stock. I waited 6 more weeks without a vacuum until I phoned customer support to find it was still out of stock. They couldn't provide a compatible replacement. The best they would offer my was a 20% discount on an upgrade replacement.

At this point, either I just got a lemon, or all there products are of shoddy quality. Based on their poor customer service, I suspect the latter. I have since bought an equivalent knockoff product from Amazon at a much lower price and am extremely happy with it.

Not only would i never recommend a Dyson product, I would HIGHLY ADVISE AGAINST THEM!

Awful customer service and deceitful warranty

I purchased a Dyson V15 vacuum cleaner less than two years ago, expecting premium performance and service given the brand’s reputation and the $1,000 price tag. Unfortunately, the vacuum stopped working just before the warranty expired, which is disappointing in itself, but what has been more upsetting is Dyson’s handling of the situation.

After dealing with rude customer service representatives for over 40 minutes, I was finally offered a replacement—a new Dyson vacuum—but without a warranty, which I found acceptable given the circumstances. However, shortly after agreeing to this, Dyson withdrew the offer, only to propose sending a refurbished unit instead. I found this to be completely unacceptable, especially considering the premium price paid for what I thought would be a reliable product backed by a solid warranty.

In Canada, I have rarely encountered such poor and misleading customer service. A company of Dyson’s stature should uphold its warranty commitments, not try to cut corners by offering second-hand machines. I would never have purchased this product had I known their warranty practices were so dubious.

If Dyson does not value its warranty or customer satisfaction, this should be made clear at the time of purchase, not when the customer is facing issues. I expected much better from a brand like Dyson, and I regret my decision to invest in a product that has not lived up to the promised quality or service standards.

Dyson lost my order and gave no compensation

I had to follow up on an online order that hadn’t been shipped in over a week. Customer service said the delivery must have been lost, so they would magnanimously send another order free of charge! I asked the agent to explain “free of charge”, since they’re simply filling an order that I’ve paid for. I also asked if there was any compensation for having to follow up on my order-which clearly was lost by Dyson, and not in transit, since I never received a notification from Dyson saying my order had been shipped. After a long hold, I was told there was no compensation unfortunately.

I said it was no wonder Dyson has a 1.5 star rating on Trustpilot, and that I’ll be buying Amazon aftermarket parts from now on

Bad refurbished products

I bought a refurbished tower fan via Walmart. Fan received was making loud noise so I called Dyson and requested a replacement. Today a replacement arrived and it is so dirty that it requires cleaning to even touch it. Never buy refurbished items from Dyson.

Placed an order on dysoncanada.ca on…

Placed an order on dysoncanada.ca on July 16th. Not received any updates since my order confirmation and it has been 21 days. Contacted their customer service dept 3 times when item will be shipped. Was asked to wait another 24-48 hrs for a solution. What is the problem and why?

Horrible customer service

Worst service ever.

Advertised on their site that they price match but they in fact DO NOT.

After multiple calls and talking with a manager. They said only price match regular price (MSRP) not a sale price.... what the heck does that even mean??

This is what it says on their site:

Be confident that you are getting the best price on Dysoncanada.ca. If within 30 days of purchase you should find the same model advertised by an authorized Canadian Dyson retailer at a lower price, we’ll refund you the difference

I found the humidifier onsale at a store that is an authorized retailer (also listed on their site as one that they price match with) and they would not honour it.

Such BS and waste of my time. I have been a loyal Dyson user for the last 15yrs but I will never buy their product again.

Absolutely horrendous customer service

Absolutely horrendous customer service. Purchased a vacuum that stopped working but was covered by warranty. After months of correspondence, repetitive emails I was able to send my vacuum in for repair. They sent it back to me "repaired" but my vacuum was in the exact state (not working) as when I sent it in originally. After I made a better business bureau complaint their escalations department contacted to and after many more correspondence& repetitive emails they agreed to send me a replacement machine and then GHOSTED me. 1 year later still no repair, no new machine and no contact. DO NOT BUY DYSON.

Dyson VE - Terrible machine, terrible customer service.

I purchased the Dyson V8. It has a very short battery life and the mounting unit does not support the weight of the motor. Mine fell off the wall and the bin broke. After months of painful correspondence with their “customer service”, they agreed give me a refurbished machine given the bin was not available with no foreseeable delivery date. Constant, repetitive emails and no delivery on machine. Will not buy Dyson again and would not recommend.

Dyson’s Design: A Costly Illusion of Innovation Leading to Quick Obsolescence

A couple of years ago, we purchased a Dyson refurbished stick vacuum directly from Dyson. As a designer, I was initially captivated by their marketing, which heavily emphasizes innovative design. Unfortunately, this experience has been disappointing and costly. In just a few years, we’ve spent over $800 on replacing batteries and parts, only to retire the vacuum recently due to persistent issues.

Dyson, much like Apple, sells the allure of cutting-edge design. However, genuine innovation and truly exceptional design should not equate to planned obsolescence—products intentionally designed to fail after a short period. This is not just a personal inconvenience; it’s a critical environmental issue. Our world is grappling with a climate crisis, and we need to be mindful of the impact of disposable, short-lived products, especially those that are expensive and resource-intensive to produce.

Dyson’s claims of innovation and quality design fall flat when their products turn into waste so quickly. The aesthetics may be appealing, but what value do they bring if they end up as landfill within two years? This is not the sustainable future we should be striving for.

I urge you to reconsider purchasing from Dyson. Their products might look sleek, but if they don’t last, their design is fundamentally flawed. True innovation lies in creating durable, long-lasting products that minimize environmental impact.
