Vehicle Pick-up (Delivery): Bluu Car Rental stated the vehicle was delivered with a "full" tank. However, vehicle dashboard telemetry immediately recorded a maximum driving range of 572 km.
Vehicle Top-up (Return): Immediately before returning the vehicle to the airport drop-off zone, I stopped at the nearest fuel station. The station attendant filled the tank until it reached maximum capacity and could physically not hold another drop.
Vehicle Drop-off (Return): Directly after filling up, I drove to the airport and photographed the dashboard. The telemetry recorded a maximum driving range of 688 km.
When I arrived home I received an invoice stating the tank was not full at drop-off. They charged 9 extra liters of fuel and a fee for not returning it completely full.
The 116-kilometer telemetry discrepancy mathematically proves that the tank was not full when I received it.
I send photographs of the dashboard telemetry confronting them with their questionable business practices. They simply stated that: "we are unfortunately not able to accept the fuel level indicator on the dashboard as definitive proof that the vehicle is full".

The company does not want to pay back my deposit!!! Tried many times at the George Branch where we rent the vehicle without any success. It has been more than a week, and all they are saying is that they will refund the money, but nothing is coming off it. I phoned their head office and they said it is going to take another 48 hours before the money will be released.
Car Hire at Capetown Airport Nov 2025
I hired a car at Capetown Airport on 11 November 2025. I was told that they needed a Rand 12,500 deposit (£544 Sterling). This authorisation was taken off my debit card (HSBC). This was due to be returned on 18th December. This never happened. This was booked through Booking.Com. Be very careful. They also told me that they could not release the authorisation as it was a "bank to bank" issue and that their bank, First National Bank (used to be Barclays Bank) was not able to approve the refund. To date they refuse to return the deposit and I am now £544 out of pocket. This is a scam and a fraudulent act. Threat of legal action does nothing. I have been well and truly conned by Bluu Car Hire and Booking.Com seem unable to get this resolved.
Unethical and untrustworthy business practices
We hired a car via CarJet from Bluu Rental at OR Tambo and were cheated out of €350. We had already paid for the platinum insurance through CarJet and although we told the person this, she said that we cannot take the car unless we sign a specific insurance document and pay a higher deposit amount than what was agreed upon with CarJet. When my account was charged with a much higher than expected amount, we queried this and were told we had agreed to pay for Bluu Rental’s insurance and refuelling although it was not necessary and we returned the car fully refuelled. This is completely unethical and an abhorrent way of doing business. They are not trustworthy and we will never use them again.
I was scammed by this party
I was scammed by this party. They don’t return your deposit and pretend the issue is with your bank. Very frustrating. I’m going to take legal action against them. They also stopped responding to me.
WORST OF THE WORST, RUDE STAFF
My car reservation at OR Tambo Airport was booked well in advance and there was just one other customer in front of me when BLUU office opened at 6am. Three members of staff were on duty and all 3 ignored me for a full 30 MINUTES. I emphasise; THREE MEMBERS OF STAFF AND ONLY TWO CUSTOMERS. This means there were more staff than customers but they just let me stand around and ignored me.
When they eventually decided to acknowledge my presence they started to argue with me that their ignoring me was all my fault!! I was utterly shocked at such disgraceful, non-existent customer service. I have NEVER been treated so abysmally by any service provider, ever.
Good service but got scammed at return
We were genuinely happy with the car and service, but got scammed upon return. We had filled up the car at OR Tambo airport (Engen Skystop) before returning, so were surprised to see the bill included a ZAR 200 refuel fee. When asking for clarification, they told me to show all receipts from the trip so they could calculate how much fuel we had used. I mean, who is keeping all receipts from a week-long trip? I am reading here that others experienced similar issues. Don't use this company. Their practices are unfortunately unfair.

Be ready to be scammed. Hired the car, the pre delivery inspection did not note all the damages to the car, particularly the rims and tyres. No paperwork was given to us, very pour. On dropping the car off the person who inspect the car went straight to two particularly rims and wheels. Noted them as damaged and new damage, apparently required replacement rims. The damage was very minor and was not from us, could be polished out. Got me to sign paperwork stating the car was full of fuel then added a note about rim damage. At drop off the rims /tyres to the right hand side we’re not even looked at. It was nearly like this was going to happen and was pre organised. Very little notice taken to the rest of the car. The car actually had rust damage to the front of the bonnet. Refused to give me the falsified documents back.. Aggressive and very poor attitude at Cape Town drop off. This appears to be normal behaviour for this company. Couple next to us went through a similar thing with a very minor scratch to their car. They then appear to hit the insurance companies up for the damage as we had a no excess policy. Getting extra cash one way or another. Ruined our South African part of our trip as it was the last thing we did. Deceitful and shameful. Zero stars, stay clear.

STAY AWAY! I REPEAT STAY AWAY. This is a scam. Bluu Car Rental is a scam. I was charged hundreds of pounds for a bumper scratch which I did not know about few days after returning the car. Loads of hidden fees that they charge. Unexplained fees that they took out of my credit card. Pure SCAM!!

We hired our 4wheel drive Toyota via Riksja at Johannesburg airport. Service was perfect! Pickup great, with help of kgabo mahlo we got a nice upgrade. We drove many km in this beautiful country where the roads are sometimes challenging. Very happy during our stay and handing in was also very easy and customer friendly.

We hired a car at Johannesburg airport, we booked it using booking.com with full insurance since we had to drive over 3000km, mixed city visits and the parks, also Swaziland (you need to ask for a special paper if you are planning to do that). The pricing was good. All went really fine, easy pick up (you need to have the Booking.com booking information, we found it back in our emails), smooth handling when we brought the car back after +2 weeks. We got our full deposit back after a few days. Really nothing to complain about.
Good and friendly service and we will use Bluu again in the future.

I arrived in Johannesburg, airport 7th of February 2025. To my annoyance they asked me tto provide copies of my agreement with booking.com. for their own use. They said they didn’t have any information about my agreement. After returning the car, I’ve received information that the car had a damaged front fog light and a scratched bumper. I accused Bluu of fraud and also was asked for extra costs for fuel. When using any hire company you keep all receipts and video evidence of the car you hired. On returning do the same saving time and money in the future. The car I hired didn’t have a front fog light fitted

My overall experience with Bluu was disappointing. We booked car (suv) online starting from Kimberley to Cape Town. When we arrived at the airport in Kimberley to pick the car, they gave us a car different from what we booked. Then they asked us to pay an additional caution to the one we payed online, which we payed. When we gave back the car in Cape Town everything went well and the car was examined by them and the car was given in the same state as we received it. But then after 2 weeks, they started to contact us saying that we should pay reparation of the car because of scratches and they never returned our caution!!!!!! Also in Kimberley, there was no copy given for anything we signed. All in all, this was a bad experience and I would not recommend anyone to rent car from this company!!!!

Für unsere Rundreise in Südafrika haben wir online einen Wagen gebucht. Beim Schalter von Bluu in Kimberley war dieser Wagen dann gar nicht vor Ort. Wir haben einen kleinen Wagen ohne Preisnachlass erhalten. Dieser sei anscheinend noch komfortabler als das gebuchte Modell.
Als wir den Wagen in Kapstadt abgegeben haben, war nachweislich bei der Übergabe alles ok. Drei Wochen später habe ich dann eine Email von bluu erhalten. Ich soll einen Kratzer im Lack verursacht haben. Die gesamte Kaution von ca. 500 € wurde einbehalten.

If everything was normal, good car, clean... When we return the car with a full tank, everything was ok except a few days later we were charged of 80 rands aproximatively 4€ for 3 liters of fuel??? We just have drive 10 kms (nearest gas station). Sorry but it's a scam ...

zeer tevreden over de autohuur. AUto werd gebracht op de locatie, goede service. Prima auto, een keer gebruik moeten maken van de service onderweg, pin in de band, prima geholpen. Geen verborgen kosten en geen gezeur over bijkopen van extra verzekeringen. Afgesloten via Riksja AAA.
Finger weg - gibt NUR kostenintensive Probleme, egal wie korrekt man sich verhält als Mieter

Vorweisen von Tankbeleg und Foto der Tankanzeige reichen angeblich nicht als Beweis. Habe dies gleich in 2 Fällen hintereinander erlebt. Zudem werden dieselben Schäden am Auto immer und immer wieder dem Kunden verrechnet. Es gibt eigentlich nichts, was reibungslos abläuft bei der Miete mit Bluu. Unfaire und unmenschliche Maschen, anstatt ehrlichverdientes Geld... Nie wieder!
