Ridiculously expensive. Just shy of £60.00 for 3 photos - I have twins so one of each and a sibling photo. Not happy at all. I will not be buying these again!!!!

A shake down, a racket, a rip off
It's a shame so many schools sign up to this greedy and predatory outfit. Ridiculously overpriced average photos, and then 28 day delivery but £5 postage.
The prices would be laughable if it wasn't exploitative of parents. No reason schools couldn't use and support a local photographer, I will ask my child's school to do this and suggest others do the same.

I wish I could put the review at 0 the the frame came chipped and the thing it holds the picture came broken to in three pieces the frame was definitely the worst we knew we could do something about the stand but the frame was chipped which was so bad you could see it overall my review is definitely 0 the fact it was £23.50 I bet I can find something better for less price even less the £6

Honestly shocked
Honestly am shocked at the prices and to charge delivery of £5 when they could just deliver to the school is extortionate absolutely ridiculous!
£25 for a digital download is ludicrous honestly its daylight robbery i can understand actual prints being expensive but not a digital download!

Hate when school photographs come round as I know I’m going to get ripped off by this company! Seems no other options to get photos. Not able to choose just one small photo as that isn’t maximising your profits always have to buy a package of loads of excess photos if I want my sons individual picture, opted for just a form photo this time but it was massively overpriced

I feel obligated to buy school photos…
I feel obligated to buy school photos every year, but £25 for a digital download is an absolute rip off. To run salt in the wounds, I could not add my son and daughters together so instead of costing me £30 it's not cost me £50 for a digital download, now to get them printed. Honestly companies need to realise how much they are ripping people off.

No way to treat a child
The photographer laid down rules about how my daughter was and wasn’t allowed to smile, which made her uncomfortable and self-conscious - making her feel that her natural smile wasn’t okay.
They also significantly rearranged her hair, without asking her. She had come to school with a hairstyle she was happy with. Aside from the fact that they made it look awful, more worrying is that they were touching her when she didn’t want them to. As parents, we want to make sure our girl knows that adults shouldn’t touch her if she’s not comfortable with it.
The resulting photograph is awful, so we won’t be buying it. But more importantly, something she had previously been happy doing was made into an unpleasant experience, and she is now worried about having her school photograph taken next time.
I can see from review responses that limited time is a common justification, but the unpleasant stuff made it take longer - if they had left her hair alone and let her smile naturally, that would have taken less time and resulted in a happier child and a better photo that we would have bought.

I am sorry to learn that your child had not had a pleasant experience with us. Our photographers do rely on the pupils being presented to them "photo-ready", as they are limited in their interactions with the children in terms of commenting on or adjusting appearance. This is in case they inadvertently cause undue upset or offence.
If this rule has been broken then we need to be made aware about this.

Poor quality and extremely overpriced
I’ve been really disappointed with Tempest Photography over the years. The photo quality is poor for the prices they charge. There seems to be very little attention to detail — children’s clothes aren’t straightened, hair isn’t tidied or smoothed, and the whole process feels like they simply put the children in the seat, take a quick snap and move on.
The prices are also extortionate and the packages don’t seem to be designed for families of three children or more - it costs me over £200 for the photos of my 3 children plus their class photos each year!!
The class photos have also been inconsistent. I ordered one for each of my three children, expecting them to be the same size. Two arrived as one size, while the third was a smaller print — despite the class being the same size as the other two. The smaller print cost exactly the same and, understandably, my child was disappointed that their photo was the noticeably smaller one when displayed alongside their siblings’ photos.
I’ve now stopped buying the school photos altogether and use a local photographer instead. I get better quality photographs, more photos for my money and a much more personal service, and it actually works out cheaper.
I really wish schools would consider supporting local photographers rather than these large companies. A local photographer has much more incentive to take pride in their work and provide a quality service, rather than it feeling like a high-volume, profit-driven exercise.
For the prices Tempest charge, I simply expect much better quality and attention to detail.

very limited photo packages, image position still back in the 70's. I have seen MUCH better photos from other schools who use other photographers.

Absolutely shocking service and terrible value for money.
The prices for school photos are ridiculously high, especially considering you are paying for nothing more than a DIGITAL photo with no printing, postage or any meaningful extras involved.
But the worst part? They expect you to wait up to A MONTH to receive a digital file!
Seriously – a month for a DIGITAL PHOTO in 2026? The photo has already been taken. There is nothing to manufacture, package or deliver. It simply needs to be made available for download.
I genuinely cannot understand how any company can justify both these prices and such an absurdly slow service.
Overpriced, outdated and incredibly disappointing. Parents deserve much better.
Definitely not a service I would recommend.

You may have misunderstood our delivery policy. On the whole, we say to allow up to 28 days for your order to be received, but this accommodates the back-to-school window if you are utilising the free delivery to the school option (if available) and anything printed to home addresses.
For digital copies, this can take up to 10 days for you to receive the digital image - instantly if you have chosen the original background, which can be downloaded through our website www.tempest-download.co.uk, or, if selecting a background change (if available), this can take 10 days for you to receive your image via email.

Photos are not even that good, get a decent background and you can get a decent photo using your phone and then send it to print for a few quid. THIEFS. Avoid this company

2 Images and some keyring images for the price of a flight to Spain
I’ve just had my granddaughters school photographs delivered. And what a disappointment. I paid an extortionate amount for two 7.5in photos and some key ring sized images The contents of the envelope left me feeling I had truly ripped off. The photos were not even trimmed and resembled a half finished job
I really advise you stay we’ll clear of Tempest and vist your Local photographer

Would give a zero if I could
Would give a zero if I could - disgusting comments made to my 14 year old . Remarks on their smile not being “proper” meaning the photo sent to purchase was awful. You could clearly see how uncomfortable and upset she was from the comments made . Various other parents and students reported similar experiences.
I understand there is a short amount of time with each child but comments about appearances are not necessary especially to teenage girls who already lack confidence .

Unfortunately, when photographing at schools, we have to adhere to the efficient running of the school timetable to ensure minimal disruption to the school day. This means that often, the school will only allow us a limited window to capture each student. Furthermore, our photographers are advised not to comment on expression or appearance incase of causing upset or offence.
