I had purchased two wallets from Shinola. In both cases, all of my plastic credit cards snapped at the top. The only card to survive was a metal Amex. Really too bad that these guys care so little as to stand behind their products. I will certainly share this experience with friends, family and employees.

I’m a little shocked that I saw some poor reviews for Shinola watches. I purchased my first Shinola, I think in 2013. Since then I’ve purchased 9 watches. Obviously I love them. Dave at the Logan Circle location in Washington DC is an incredible person to work with. He is not just knowledgeable when it comes to Shinola but will help anyway he can. I will continue to buy Shinola and especially from Dave. I look forward to more Detrola models. Thanks, Shinola!

Customer service would not deal with a prematurely failed rubber watch band. Them: Sorry, no guarantee for watch bands. Me: When I pay $100 for a RUBBER watch band, high quality is a reasonable expectation.

The products look nice (although don't know for certain as have yet to receive mine) but the customer service and general delivery process is terrible.
Paid $50 for delivery (already a lot in this day and age but figured since it was coming from the States, and it was an engagement gift, I would suck it up).
UPS guy arrives at my door - fiancé (who doesn't know the gift is coming) answers the door and is told to pay a £132 charge.
UPS guy says we can pay in cash there and then (obviously don't have that lying around the house) or "pay online".
Kicked myself for not asking further details. Have no tracking number, no information from Shinola, no way of paying online. Contacted UPS; they can't do anything without a tracking number. Tried to contact Shinola - contact form on website does nothing; no response on Twitter; phone number is US only - and having already apparently signed up for more than $200 over the watch's cost, I'm not that keen to pay a load of money calling the US! Obviously customs charges are out of their hands but when it's going to add up to so much I think it would be fair for there to be a pretty transparent warning on the website!
So now I'm left in limbo, hoping someone replies to my email so that I can pay this extortionate charge to get the surprise watch which is no longer a surprise.
Overall, just a ridiculous process. Really wish I'd read other reviews on this company beforehand.

I live in Canada, and purchased a watch and a wallet last year.
The products were great until about 6 months... the seam on the wallet split open, so now it can only hold cards on one side - the slots for cards were clearly not large enough for credit/debit cards.

The watch battery died after 5 months, and guess what!? you have to send the watch to "authorized dealers" to maintain the warranty, and turns out there is only one dealer in canada... $800 watch, have to spend $100 a year (shipping and replacement battery).
The watch strap started to fade and wilt, so i tried ordering a new one... There is no where to find out what watch i have - no serial number spec lookup... nothing. Ordered the wrong strap - and they want to charge $75 to replace... The watch strap is $200 (1/4 the price of the watch)...

I recommend you spend your money elsewhere, especially if youre from canada.

I have worn a Shinola watch for 5 years. I upgraded the strap from leather to a 5-link gold bracelet and moved from US to UK. After a few years, I needed a new link for the bracelet. My problem was trickier than the usual things handled by their EU repairs company. I was able to contact Shinola in the US from UK, and they sent me what I needed at no charge - breathing new life and wearability into my watch.

Very happy with this purchase. I went to their Detroit store. Excellent service. The watch is quartz movement. The leather is soft and good quality. Happy to support an American business. No issues.

At Shinola they are masters at marketing. They pride themselves on their Detroit based manufacturing. I hope the quality of their leather goods turns out to be as good as their marketing because they won’t divulge any information on the materials used in the manufacturing of their leather goods. They use worthless terms to describe their leather goods. Words like luxe, premium or navigator leather. Never really divulging any information regarding their true quality. When companies are this secretive more often then not they are attempting to hide something. Twice I have submitted a review on a leather dopp kit I recently purchased which they have failed to publish on their website. I doubt whether the quality of the materials used justifies their prices. The company has been caught misleading customers in the past when their slogan “Where American is made” was debunked and the company was forced to stop using it.
I’ll just have to see how my “luxe” grain leather zip travel kit fairs over time. But their lack of transparency on divulging basic information to consumers makes me suspect that it’s all smoke and mirrors.

I just purchased my first watch. Very nice quality, packaging, and service.
I am looking forward to purchasing many of their American Made items.
