The softest, driest, most comfortable socks you've ever worn. Olive & Jet harnesses the natural magic of alpaca fibre — incredibly soft, naturally moisture-wicking, and temperature-regulating in a way synthetic fibres simply can't match. Feel the difference.

I bought 8 pairs to start and the xxl size are a joke tight. I have regular feet in size 12. They say 11-13 for xxl.

You need to pay return shipping to New Zealand= 35.00 minimum.

Do not buy! Unless you like gambling. M bill was 94.00 so I kept.

The socks are no better than Amazon.

Very disappointed with the socks

Very disappointed with the socks, firstly made in China, Olive and Jet at no time said they were made in China. With only 45% alpaca, and the rest arcylic, polyester and nylon. Will now stay with NZ made possum, merino socks. Olive and Jet socks are not suitable for work boots and more suited for wearing in your slippers. Miss leading reviews on face book compared to Trust pilot.
Grossly over priced for what they are.

Hi Nic,

Sorry to hear the socks weren't the right fit for you.

All of the information you've mentioned — composition, manufacturing origin, and intended use — is available in the product details tab on every product page, and also at the top of our FAQ section. It's something we're transparent about and have always made accessible.

On manufacturing: our partner in Shanghai knows alpaca textiles better than any other sock factory in the world. We'd genuinely be doing our product and our customers a disservice if we didn't work with them.

On composition — our alpaca content varies between 43–48% depending on the style, blended with nylon and spandex. This is completely standard across the sock industry — natural fibres need to be blended to achieve the durability and shape retention you'd expect from a quality sock.

If you're after a harder-wearing boot sock style, our Boot Socks would likely be a better option for you — they're thicker, longer, and built for exactly that kind of heavy use.

If the socks aren't right for you, please reach out to us at support@oliveandjet.com and we can get a return process started for you.

Not fit for purpose

A waste of my money plus aggressive marketing. I bought 8 pairs of socks for work as I'm on my feet all day. They have all gone bally/fluffy and stretched at the ankles. I can only now wear them with boots as it right at the ankle area were everyone sees. I have contacted them 3 times with pictures and a video I only got a response two times giving the same bland excuse saying it will come out after a few washes. Each sock has been washed several times and no change.
Aggressive marketing, product not fit for its purpose and poor customer service hence the 1 star

The socks are great

The socks are great. Although they are thick, that suits my slender feet. However, the deliveries have been unpredictable. Yodel used to take 2 weeks from a warehouse 30 miles away, and Evri have their usual problems. Also my husband wanted to return some and was told to send them to New Zealand. We are in the UK so the cost of delivery would be more than the socks were worth. Given they were delivered from a warehouse in the UK, I find this unprofessional at best.

I bought 8 pairs of Alpaca socks from Olive and Jet after reading the story about how the company started, the fact that it was a well respected New Zealand business and New Zealand’s reputation for fairness and quality products. I ordered the wrong style of sock and emailed about changing. The response was immediate and the order was changed right away. Customer service means a lot to me and I’m recommending Olive and Jet before I’ve even received my socks. I’m sure you’ll hear more from me once I get my socks.

Also a big shout out to Olive & Jet, great customer service, thank you

Hi Steven,

Sorry to hear this — that's not the experience we want for anyone. This isn't something we've heard before, so we think it could well be a sizing issue — if the sock is a little too big it can rotate on the foot.

If you'd like to try a different size, please reach out to us at support@oliveandjet.com and we'd be happy to arrange an exchange for you.

Just received my order of socks

Just received my order of socks. Bit disappointed; very thin, only suitable for 'city wear'. Also, 'Made in China' (not NZ), and only 45% Alpaca (rest is synthetic). Will be interesting to see if they last!

Hi Alfred,

Thank you for the feedback — we appreciate you sharing it.

On the thickness — we think we might have a better fit for you. If you're after something with a bit more cushioning and weight to it, our Boot Sock is likely the one you're looking for. It's a chunkier, more substantial sock built for exactly that kind of wear — boots, the outdoors, cooler conditions. We'd be more than happy to arrange a free exchange to get you into a pair, just reach out to us at support@oliveandjet.com and we'll sort it.

On composition — our alpaca content varies between styles, ranging from 43–48%, blended with nylon and spandex. This is clearly listed on the product description tab of every product page. A blend is completely standard across the sock industry, including among premium natural fibre brands — the nylon and spandex are what give the sock its durability and shape retention over time, so we think you'll be pleasantly surprised by how they hold up.

And on manufacturing — our socks are made by a world-class production partner in Shanghai with more experience in alpaca socks than arguably any other manufacturer in the world. Olive & Jet is a New Zealand owned and operated business — it's where we're set up, where we're based, and honestly all we know.

Hope we get the chance to find you the perfect pair!

Olive and Jet is a scammy company

Olive and Jet is a scammy company, purporting to sell 100% Alpaca wool socks made in New Zealand - in fact the socks are made in China and have 50+ % synthetic content. $au38 a pair is a rip off for this average Chinese made product. Their website actually compares how much better their socks are compared to those with synthetic content!

Hi Bruno,

We never claim our socks are 100% alpaca — that's simply not something you'll find anywhere on our website, our packaging, or our advertising. The full composition is clearly listed on the product description tab of every single product page, and has been from day one. Alpaca content varies between styles, ranging from 43–48%, blended with nylon and spandex.

A blend like ours is completely standard across the sock industry — including among premium natural fibre brands. Socks need nylon for durability and shape retention, and spandex to maintain a comfortable, snug fit. A 100% alpaca sock simply wouldn't hold up to everyday wear, and any reputable sock brand will tell you the same.

On price — we do run volume discounts, so if you take advantage of those, our socks become very competitively priced when compared to other natural fibre sock brands on the market. Alpaca fibre itself is a premium material, and the cost reflects that.

As for manufacturing in China — our production partner in Shanghai is world-class, works with some of the biggest names in the industry, and has more experience producing alpaca socks than arguably any other manufacturer in the world. We chose them deliberately because we wanted to work with the best.

If you're not happy with your socks, please reach out to us at support@oliveandjet.com and we can get the return process started for you — no hassle.

Hi Neil,

I’m sorry to hear a hole has appeared after only four weeks.

Please contact our founder directly at angus@oliveandjet.com and include a clear photo of the damage. If it appears to be a manufacturing defect, such as a split seam or similar issue, we’ll absolutely arrange a replacement.

We’d like the opportunity to look into this properly and make it right.

Unscrupulous business strategies

Let me say from the outset that these are indeed very cosy and warm socks that are keeping my toes toasty warm this winter. The issue I have however, is that they're not 'alpaca socks' as they are advertised.

Just as I'd expect a 'cotton tee-shirt' to be 100% cotton, or a leather bag to be made of all- leather, I expected these 'alpaca socks' to be predominantly alpaca fibre. How wrong I was. The print on the packaging says it all - 45% alpaca (a fact you only learn after you've paid your money and received your package.) The 55% balance is all man-made fibres making them, at best, acrylic socks with alpaca fibre. As someone who has actively sought out natural fibres to wear for many, many years, I feel I've well and truly had the pill-free acrylic pulled over my eyes with these socks 😕

Further, when commenting to this effect on the company's Facebook page my comment was removed and i can no longer access their page. What had held promise as a great New Zealand company is proving more and more to be an unscrupulous, misleading and deceitful company. As I said at the start, the socks are indeed warm and comfortable, but that's about the only part of their whole advertising claims I'm now prepared to trust.

UPDATE FOLLOWING RESPONSE FROM CEO:

I've researched the fibre content of several brands of wool/merino socks. Some are indeed less than 50%, but many are more than 50% so i don't buy that as a reason to have just 45% alpaca. Your business decision *could* have been to match the fibre content of the best-in-category but instead, you've chosen to match some of the worst-in- category.

Further, and more worryingly, you have completely failed to address my concern about having my review *removed* from your Facebook page and then being blocked from making any further comments. How on earth are customers supposed to trust a company that buries their feedback?

Svar fra Oliveandjet

Hi Caroline,

Thanks for the fair words about the socks themselves, and for laying out your concern so clearly. I'd rather answer it properly than brush it off.

On the blend. I understand the cotton tee comparison, but socks are a different kind of garment. A 100% natural fibre sock, alpaca or merino or whatever, would last maybe a few weeks of daily wear if you're lucky before it went baggy and wore through. Socks take more abuse than anything else you own. They're stretched, compressed and abraded every single day. The other fibres are what give the sock stretch, structure and shape retention so it survives real use. This is completely standard across the category. The merino socks from Icebreaker, Kathmandu and Macpac are all blends for exactly this reason, because a sock made predominantly from a single natural fibre wouldn't hold up. So the fibre mix isn't acrylic dressed up as alpaca. It's the amount of alpaca a sock can carry and still last.

That said, I take the real point. If you only found the exact split after opening the package, our marketing didn't put it in front of you clearly enough beforehand. The full composition is on every product page, but it should be impossible to miss, and I'm working on that.

Olive and Jet contacted me by email to say my order had not been completed, which it had, and their excuse was that they didn't have my email address??? Go figure! Anyway, the crew socks I ordered arrived the next day and they are really great. Good quality and thankfully, what I was expecting. The alpaca content is only 45%, the rest is acrylic and elastin but anyone who knows anything about alpaca wool will know that it is a soft fibre and needs some robust fibres and elastin to form comfortably around your foot and to endure hard wear. I am happy with the purchase and would recommend them. Although I have to say, I think their pushy advertising is over the top.

8 days from order to delivery

8 days from order to delivery. Disappointing.
Shocked to find out they are not in fact NZ made or using NZ alpaca fleece but made in CHINA.
Feeling incredibly duped.
The company should not give the website and their marketing such a kiwi feel when it is in fact not. I would never had purchased these socks at an exorbitant price knowing they were coming from overseas.
Have yet to wear and trial a pair. May update once I’ve had a chance to give them a fair trial.
But fair to say I’m pretty pissed and it’s misleading.

Hi Rachael,

Thanks for taking the time to write this — I'd rather hear it than not.

On delivery: I've looked into your order and our tracking shows five business days (7.5 calendar days) from order to delivery. That's slower than we want, and I'm sorry we let you down there. We push our carriers — Aramex and NZ Post — constantly to do better, and we'll keep doing that.

On the branding: we're a New Zealand owned and operated company, based here in Christchurch. New Zealand is all we've ever known, and it's honestly hard for that not to show up in how we look and what we value. In that sense we're no different from Kathmandu, Macpac, Bushbuck and plenty of other beloved Kiwi brands — Kiwi owned and run, manufactured offshore.

And yes, our socks are made in China. At the scale we're at now, selling across several countries, manufacturing here isn't feasible. There's also no alpaca fibre supply in New Zealand for us to source from — alpaca comes from the Peruvian Andes, which is where ours comes from. What started here in NZ is now going global, and that's genuinely exciting for us.

I'm sorry you were left feeling confused by that. I do hope that when you try a pair on, the socks themselves win you over — and if they don't, get in touch and we'll sort it out.

Hi Joan,

Thanks for the kind words about the socks — and I'm sorry the ordering side left you feeling misled. That's on us to make clearer, so let me explain how it works and then fix your order.

Our Buy 4 Get 4 Free promotion needs all 8 pairs in the cart for the discount to apply. When you click the Buy 4 Get 4 Free button on any product page, all 8 pairs are added automatically. We also run a tiered reward bar inside the cart that shows how many pairs you've added and how many more you need to hit the free-socks threshold, alerts that pop up when you're short of 8, and discount labels on the items themselves so you can see the promotion applying. The reason we let you add all 8 individually rather than locking it as a fixed bundle is so you can customise the whole order — mix your own colours and sizes — which most customers really like. But if it wasn't obvious enough in your case, that's a fair criticism and I'd rather know.

Here's the fix: email me directly at angus@oliveandjet.com and I'll send you an invoice link for the remaining pairs you were after, at the same discount you should have got. You'll end up with exactly the order you wanted at the price you wanted.
