I moved my number from 48.ie to Lycamobile and it has been one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve had. The online port‑in system kept rejecting my number with “Please enter a valid old mobile number,” even though the details were correct. I contacted Lycamobile multiple times (Friday, Monday and Thursday) and every agent gave different information with no real solution.
To make things worse, I received a text saying my issue (Request 111645787) was “resolved,” even though nothing was fixed. The port still doesn’t work, and I was told to call 1923 for “further information,” which led nowhere.
After days of wasted time, repeated calls, and zero progress, I’m now considering cancelling the SIM entirely and requesting a full refund. This level of service is unacceptable, and I will escalate to ComReg if this is not resolved immediately.

I have been using Lyca Mobile for almost 9 years now, and didn't have any issue. It's within my budget, and has seamless connection almost most of the time. Yes, there can be times when my phone disconnects from the WiFi, and it won't connect automatically, but I have found a hack with working with toggling the airplane mode. Works well otherwise.

Absolutely ridicilous. They take weeks to respond to the claim that the bundle does not work, then they say that since the bundle expired already, they cannot refund it.

I'm writing this message for people who are also experiencing the issue of automatic Lyca Mobile subscriptions and the inability to cancel them. I would recommend reissuing your bank card. Unfortunately, sometimes this is the only way to get rid of aggressive marketing of lyca mobile. I hope my review helps someone.

I arrived back in Ireland after 2 years and topped up my old LycaMobile SIM card, thinking I’d be able to continue using it. It didn’t work. Ok, that’s fine.
But then, LycaMobile started auto charging me 18 euros per month to renew the phone service. I didn’t have an account and couldn’t log in or remove my card. I tried adding an alternative card with zero funds on it to force a bounce, but they simply retained my original credit card details and resumed re-charging it.
I contacted support and went through a long process of being asked to give details of transactions, card details, and names of services, before being told the account had been invalid from the start so I wouldn’t be charged. I said no, that’s not true as I have been charged every month for almost a year now.
They said nothing they can do, ask your bank for a chargeback. I said fine, but remove my card please so I don’t continue to be charged further. They say they can’t.
I now have to cancel my credit card and update all of my other direct debits, and get a new credit card, while on the other side of the world, to stop being charged by LycaMobile for no reason. I am now over 200 euros out of pocket for zero service.

I had difficulty completing an auto-renewal cancellation for both my phone and my wife's phone.
I got in touch with customer service via the website. This meant I had to go through the chatbot, but eventually it connected me with Marizabel who was efficient, helpful, courteous and professional. We got confirmation via text message to our phones that our requests had been completed, and reference numbers to keep for future reference.
My five stars are for Marizabel! Thank you for your help today.

Hello,
I am contacting you regarding my Lyca Mobile service in the Edenderry, Offaly area. Although I have an active plan with unlimited internet, the speed is extremely poor.
I have performed several speed tests and I am getting around 1 Mbps download with very high ping, even when my phone shows 4G+ or 5G. I would like to point out that the signal is extremely weak and unstable, and the connection is almost unusable for normal browsing.
I have checked the APN settings and they are correct, and I have tested both 4G and 5G, but the issue still persists.
Please check if there is any limitation on my account or if there are network issues in my area, and provide a solution.

Hard to reach anyone who can make any sense or have any kind of relative conversation in relation to the issues you face. They do, however, like to apologise even before you've told them of your issues. If you're lucky, you'll have someone willing to help, but personal experience is that there's nothing wrong, and if you challenge that, the line drops.
Service signal shows high, but then drops, then your call conversation degrades until the other caller can't make any sense and usually hangs up.
WORNING, if you tell them that you aim to leave as not fit for purpose and you're under contract (12 months etc), they will gladly port your number, close your account and charge you the remaining costs left for the year as a one-off payment.

I have had a very bad experience with them. I purchased a three-month bundle for €45 and the eSIM shows as invalid. I have been like this for a month, without data or calls, and they are not providing any solutions. They take days to respond to emails and it is useless. When you call the phone number, you only get a robot that is also of no help.

One of the worst stresses I’ve had to go through. So much BS you have to put up woth as a customer and you basically have to become an expert with their systems to work around it and not get scammed. Even after leaving and moving my number away, unlike every other service provider, they continue to charge your card monthly (for nothing) until you explicitly stop that too. But you can’t log into the app without a Lyca number…

They still have not refunded my initial payment for a sim card that never worked, it just sat in my tablet "updating"
I paid over 42 euro up front for the mobile account and they never produced any service whatsoever, and have finally said they will refund 33 euro.
I sent dozens of emails and had numerous calls to their helpline with nothing but conflicting information and instructions to use an alternative comms method.
It was only when I approached Comreg, they actually did anything, but it simply isn't enough.
I paid for a service I didn't receive. I have lost hours as well as money on my landline chasing up the money they took from me. This type of service only survives with the deliberate contact difficulties they themselves introduce.
My complaint reference for Comreg had to be chased up, it came outside the timeframe allowed and as my website details were called into question, my request for for data under a GDPR application was totally ignored.
These do NOTHING unless forced into it by someone with authority.

I strongly advise anyone to avoid Lyca Mobile.
My phone service has been completely unusable because their system still has an old eSIM profile linked to my account. This technical issue prevents me from activating my new eSIM, leaving my phone non-functional.
I contacted customer support multiple times and even sent a formal complaint email 10 days ago. I have received zero response.
Even worse, during one of my calls with their support team, an agent verbally insulted me on a recorded line, which is completely unacceptable for a telecommunications company.
At this point I have:
No working phone service
No response from customer support
No resolution to the issue
If this situation is not resolved immediately, I will proceed with:
Filing an official complaint with ComReg (Ireland’s telecommunications regulator)
Requesting a chargeback through my bank for service not provided.
Extremely disappointing experience.

I had to rewrite my previous 1-star review for Lycamobile Ireland because my experience was so frustrating it deserves it. It’s like they’ve perfectly blended incompetence with carelessness. Sure, they offer very competitive prices—but it comes at a cost.
First, their customer care support is a shamble. You could write an essay about how bad it is. Second, SIM activation is an absolute disaster. I’ve never experienced anything like it. After weeks of trying and following their step-by-step directions, we finally gave up and signed up with another provider, who sent a SIM and activated it within two days. Lycamobile, on the other hand, took more than a week to deliver a SIM and three weeks to literally never activate it—despite us following every single instruction they gave.
Even more frustrating, customer support repeatedly promised to “sort it out” or escalate the issue—but a few days later, you have to contact them all over again (Monday to Friday). And judging by the declining star ratings on Trustpilot and countless similar complaints, it seems they really don’t care about feedback.
So, yes—it’s cheap. But in reality, it’s a total hit or miss. I can’t comment on their cellular signal because I never actually got the chance to use it, even though we paid the first monthly fee.
Bottom line: if you have a lot of free time and are unemployed, maybe you can afford to waste it chasing Lycamobile Ireland’s customer service—but as far as I’m concerned, I strongly discourage anyone from switching.
