What have they done. I have been buying this coffee for a very long time and loved it but now the residue floats on top and also staining the mugs. I will not be buying this in future, such a shame.

I have bought Kenco Rich for many, many years, wearing each price leap with a shrug and an "it's worth it" comment. But no more. I could forgive the "shrinkflation" and the patronising assumption that we wouldn't notice. But not the actual coffee. What have you done? It is revolting! A nasty film on top, a powdery mouth-feel, a bitter taste and a hideous sludge at the end of the cup. Why the change? I'm clearly not the only loyal customer who is now off to find a replacement.

There's not much you can rely on these days, but for 20 odd years a decent cup of coffee in the mornings was. Until NOW! Oh Kenco - what have you done?!?

I understand the shrinkflation - I can even forgive the brown sludge - but the taste??? It's like drinking dishwater - no better than a cup of Nescafé.

I've been singing Kenco's praises since collecting the wee tokens years ago - but sadly, now need to find an alternative. I used to admire Kenco for it's ethics and was willing to pay a bit more.

I know it's all down to profit, but unless you change the recipe back (and I would happily pay more for a decent cup of coffee), you have ditched your loyal fan base and have cheapened your product in a sad attempt to appeal to the masses. Do you really think they will be prepared to pay for an inferior product? Shame on you Kenco!

I have drank kenco smooth for many years. Recently it’s tasted bitter and the dark horrible sludge in the bottom of the cup is nauseating. I have experienced headaches too. I thought it was just me or maybe just a bad batch, but from these reviews it seems not. I have thrown away my new jar - I wouldn’t even gift this to someone, and will be trying other brands. Sorry Kenco another customer lost.

We have been Kenco coffee drinkers for many years and have never deviated away from them until now. The new recipe taste is frankly awful. Watery, tasteless, leave a horrible residue at the bottom of the cup, I drink my coffee black and this new blend even looks different, now it’s muddy looking. Please Kenco!! Go back to your old recipe taste. I cannot believe that anyone thinks this is a good move!
We will not be buying it again as it is.

Disgusting!!! Horrid taste and loads of residue left in the cup . Why change something that worked and tasted just fine!! My partner and son said we will have to change to another brand as it's absolutely disgusting and weak, dirty sediments at the bottom of the cup, silly jewel jar change too, I have no words left!!!

They've changed the ingredients, not the same rich taste as before and reduced the size of jar and contents, that's pure greed.
I've stopped buying their product

A dreadful change to what was my favourite instant coffee!!! My most recent jar (Aug 2026) is the new smaller size & shape. But the coffee, eughhh the coffee, now tastes so weak. I always buy the ‘rich’ blend as I prefer a stronger tasting coffee, but this is now just awful and tastes like some cheap 99p blend. Doesn’t dissolve well either. A poor show Kenco

Shall not be buying it anymore and am on the hunt for a decent instant coffee.

The new kenco rich coffee is awful. I bought two jars and have thrown one away.

Another ruined brand.
From the best instant coffee in the UK to right there with the worst.
The new recipe is horrendously bad.
A sad day and the last time I buy Kenko anything.
UPDATE, thrown away the whole jar, this stuff is not fit for consumption, both Mrs and I have bad headaches after drinking this stuff.

After 20 years of faithfully starting our mornings with Kenco Rich, we're finally calling it a day.

The latest version bears little resemblance to the coffee we once enjoyed. The addition of 10% ground coffee leaves a muddy residue at the bottom of the cup, doesn't dissolve properly, and leaves a powdery aftertaste. As for the flavour, "Rich" is no longer an accurate description. It's more like a washed-out brew that tastes as though stale socks were involved somewhere in the production process. This coffee has been completely spoiled. Kenco has lost two customers who stayed loyal for over two decades.

I have drunk Kenco coffee rich for decades. The recipe and texture has recently changed. The taste is now bitter. It leaves a residue in the mug. The size of the bottle has been reduced but no price reduction so effectively a higher price for an inferior product. I shall be changing to another brand of coffee for the future. Very sad. From reviews I have seen everybody seems to have the same view.

Kenko Rich (Blue) was lovely and now it's vile. My whole family have been loyal for decades - We've moved on to Nescafe Alta Rica (it's pretty good if you're looking for a non sludgy rich coffee that actually dissolves since Kenko have let us down)

Revised Kenco smooth is now poor tasting and doesn’t dissolve properly leaving a black sludge. It has gone from on of the best tasting coffees to one of the worst. I will not be buying it any more

I have used kenco 2 in 1 coffee sachets for over a year and loved them, I bought a box yesterday from Sainsburys and spat it out, disgusting taste, no idea what they have changed but please change it back.

I’ve been a loyal Kenco drinker for years, but the recent product updates are a massive step down in quality.
Kenco altered the recipe across their range by mixing in 10% microground roast coffee. As a result, the coffee no longer dissolves properly. Every single mug now leaves a thick, dark, powdery sludge and grit at the bottom. To make matters worse, the new blend tastes significantly more bitter, harsh, and burnt compared to the original smooth formula.
On top of the recipe downgrade, they’ve also quiet-cut the jar size from 200g down to 190g (a 5% drop in product) while keeping prices the same.
Paying more for less product and a ruined recipe makes no sense. I won't be buying Kenco again until they return to 100% pure freeze-dried coffee. Moving on to a different brand. (Lo’r intense )

Oh Kenco! What have you done to your coffee?! Being gluten intolerant, finding a coffee that didn’t affect my tummy was challenging.. then I found you! For the last few years, I’ve been able to enjoy your brand & not suffer.. until now, I couldn’t work out why I had been so poorly, you’ve changed the recipe!! One loyal customer gone & now have the challenge of finding another coffee, once I’ve got through what you have effectively caused!
