Monthly payment, but a full-year commitment
A heads-up for anyone considering a Gymglish subscription.
I signed up expecting a simple monthly plan, but what I actually got was a fixed-length contract — the subscription renewed for a full year, even though the money is taken from my card month by month. The important part: once you're in that fixed-term contract, you can't cancel partway through. You stay on the hook for the entire period, regardless of whether you use the lessons or not.
This is all written in their terms and conditions, so it's legal — they're not breaking any rules. But it's very easy to miss at checkout, and the way it's presented makes it feel like an ordinary cancel-anytime monthly plan when it isn't.
So before you subscribe, please:
- Read carefully whether you're buying a "monthly" plan or a "fixed-length" plan.
- Know that a fixed-length plan can't be cancelled mid-term — you can only turn off auto-renewal so it doesn't continue next term.
- Check your account settings right after purchase to see your real subscription type and end date.
I'm not saying anything illegal is happening — I'm sharing my own experience so you can make an informed choice and not feel trapped the way I did.

Μετα απο 40 χρόνια αποφάσισα να ξαναθυμηθω τα γαλλικά που ήξερα πολύ καλά αλλά δεν τα εχω χρησιμοποιήσει από τότε. Τα μαθήματα ειναι ενδιαφέροντα , σύγχρονα , με χιούμορ αλλά και με προκλήσεις. Χρειάζομαι περισσοτερο από 10΄ για την μελέτη, αλλά ειναι χρόνος που αξιζει πραγματικά.

I subscribed to Aimigo’s (formerly Gymglish) French course in February 2026. The product was broken from the start - I attempted 4 lessons, but videos wouldn’t load and the explanations were constantly glitching. I couldn’t use it properly.
I want to be clear about what I actually asked for: I was not demanding all my money back for the months I’d been dealing with a broken product. I simply asked them to cancel my subscription going forward and refund a single month’s payment — one I hadn’t even logged into the portal for.
That’s it. One month. For a service I demonstrably never used.
They refused.
What makes this worse is that I had only agreed to monthly payments - yet Aimigo treated this as a locked 24-month contract with no exit, even for a month of zero usage, with a faulty product.
Their Customer Care Manager, François confirmed in writing: “I confirm that we will not be able to cancel this subscription and refund the payments already made.”
Their only “solution” was for me to purchase a brand new 6-month subscription at a higher rate, pay the price difference myself, and then they would cancel the original. They called this a “commercial gesture.” Asking a customer to spend more money to exit a broken service is not a gesture.
When I sent an email citing Australian Consumer Law - specifically that services must be fit for purpose and that contract terms cannot override those rights - François responded by claiming they had never received any complaint that the product wasn’t working (even though I explained that I had been away during the expiry of the 15 day period), and therefore it must have been delivered “with due care and skill.” His evidence? That they had sent lesson emails. Sending emails is not the same as the product functioning.
He then added that had I reported issues earlier, they “would have considered canceling your subscription free of charge” - a remarkable admission that cancellation was possible, just not on my timeline.
When I informed them I was contacting my bank and lodging a formal consumer complaint - my legal right - they accused me of “threatening” them “several times.”
François then dismissed my consumer law arguments entirely with: “We have been offering language courses for over 20 years so we know the law and have always complied with it.”
I was not asking for a windfall. I attempted 4 lessons on a glitching, broken platform, asked to cancel going forward, and requested back one single month I never opened. The response at every step was dismissive, condescending, and showed no genuine engagement with my rights as an Australian consumer.
I am now pursuing this through my bank and consumer authorities. If you’re an Australian customer considering this service - know that if anything goes wrong, this is exactly how they respond.

We are sorry to read your review and that your experience with Aimigo did not meet your expectations.
We would like to clarify a few points. Our support team first heard from you in April, when you contacted us to request the cancellation of your subscription. Before that date, we had not received any message from you reporting technical issues with the course, videos, explanations, or lesson access. Had we been informed of a technical problem earlier, our team would of course have investigated it and helped you resolve it.
Your subscription, taken out in February, was a 24-month commitment with monthly payments. This commitment allows us to offer a lower monthly rate than shorter plans. As your request came after the cancellation period, we explained that the subscription could not simply be cancelled and refunded under the original terms.
Nevertheless, as a commercial gesture, we offered to reduce your commitment from 24 months to 6 months. Because shorter commitments are priced differently, this required adjusting the price to the applicable 6-month rate. We understand that this was not the outcome you were hoping for, but it was proposed as an exception to the initial subscription terms.
We regret that our exchanges left you feeling dismissed. That was not our intention. We remain available to review any specific technical issues you encountered and to assist you further through our support team.

Die Lektionen der Lernapp sind super hilfreich, abwechslungsreich, sowie manchmal sogar ein bisschen spannend. Auch die ständige Wiederholung von kleinen grammatikalischen Phänomen hilft weiter alles in allem ist die App sehr gut und kann nur empfohlen werden.

Do not use Gymglish under any circumstance! They are an absolutely disgusting company. If you sign up for their service and then want to stop lessons they will refuse and force you to continue paying. If you remove your payment method they will threaten legal proceedings and interest payments. Please do not waste your money with tjis company. They are utterly disgusting and treat their customers like trash.

Avec Gymglish, puis Amigo, je suis les cours d'anglais et d'espagnol. Mon ambition est d'entretenir mon niveau dans ces deux langues pour pouvoir me débrouiller en voyage et aussi pour faire fonctionner mes neurones sur une activité qui me plaît. Car ces cours sont un réel plaisir, dynamiques et pleins d'humour, je ne les ressens jamais comme une contrainte. Le dialogue avec l'IA est un vrai plus. Je ne l'ai pas encore pris pour l'espagnol faute de temps pour tout faire mais ça manque un peu. De plus le contact avec les responsables est pratique et plaisant. Je ne peux que recommander ce site.

Spaß und Abwechslung
Es macht wirklich Spaß- kleine, lustige Lernepisoden, abwechslungsreiche Übungen, Einblicke in die französische Lebensart durch das "Tagesdessert" (Video plus kurzer Abriss über den jeweiligen Film, musikalischen Beitrag, Literaturausschnitt). Vor allem die Möglichkeit, täglich mit einer KI zu plaudern, hilft dabei, die Scheu vor dem Sprechen zu verlieren.
Ich übe nun seit zwei Jahren Französisch mit Frantastique und mache es immer noch richtig gerne (gerade wieder um weitere zwei Jahre verlängert)

J'ai testé les 7 premières leçons
J'ai testé les 7 premières leçons, que j'ai beaucoup apprécié ! Le fait de pouvoir travailler sa compréhension orale avec des courtes vidéos ainsi que sa compréhension écrite est très intéressant et plutôt ludique. Les corrections sont personnalisées avec un bon niveau de détails.
Et le fait de pouvoir parler avec l'IA qui ne nous corrige pas oralement mais avec une correction sous nos phrases est vraiment une très bonne idée !
Un contenu très qualitatif, bravo à l'équipe.
Néanmoins, je trouve dommage qu'à la fin de ces leçons, Gymglish m'est attribué un niveau C1, que je n'ai pas du tout... Je suis au maximum B2, voire B1. J'espère donc que les leçons suivantes se passeront bien, car je souhaite grandement m'améliorer.

Concernant le niveau C1 attribué, rassurez-vous : il s’agit d’une estimation initiale, basée sur un nombre encore limité d’interactions. Ce niveau est évolutif et s’ajuste automatiquement au fil des leçons, en fonction de vos réponses, de vos erreurs et de votre progression réelle. Il est donc tout à fait normal que cette première estimation ne reflète pas encore parfaitement votre niveau actuel.
L’essentiel est que les leçons suivantes s’adaptent progressivement à vos besoins, afin de vous proposer un contenu ni trop facile ni trop difficile — et surtout efficace pour vous faire progresser. Si besoin, vous pouvez également contacter notre équipe support, qui pourra vérifier ou ajuster certains paramètres.

Their AI is unable to differentiate between the formal and the informal use. This is such a basic error. But as we all know, one has to learn this particular feature.
This company don't road test their AI before rolling it out to us, the paying public. Please use another company to learn a foregn language.

Kulanter Service, Saga Baldoria leider nicht geeignet für solides B2 Niveau
Ich habe ein solides B2 Niveau in Italienisch und fand Saga Baldoria in der Testphase sehr vielversprechend. Deshalb habe ich auch das 12-Monate-Abo gekauft. Leider war es schon nach etwas mehr als 14 Tagen klar, dass mich der Kurs unterfordert, was die Lerndauer betrifft und die Schwierigkeit der einzelnen Episoden (die leider auch nicht jede Woche kommen, sondern mit einer Woche Grammatikübungen unterbrochen sind). Ich habe mich an den Support gewandt und habe quasi sofort meine Abo-Gebühr rückerstattet bekommen, obwohl die 14-Tage Stornierungsfrist abgelaufen war. Danke für diese Kulanz.

Zahlungen per Klarna anders als angegeben nicht möglich
Man kann Klarna als Zahlungsmöglichkeit auswählen, aber es kommt zu Problemen. Es hat nur einen Monat geklappt, seitdem erhalte ich ständig Emails, wie ich das Problem lösen kann, aber keine davon funktioniert. Ich habe seit Monaten Ärger mit einem Kundendienst, der mir unbrauchbare Lösungsvorschläge schickt, und bekomme parallel Mahnungen. Wenn ich das gewusst hätte, hätte ich das Abo nicht abgeschlossen.

Convaincu déçu
J'ai adoré faire chaque matin ma leçon de gymglish (aimigo maintenant) dans les transports en commun. Mon niveau d'anglais était extrêmement bon.
Depuis de nombreuses années maintenant, j'attends la version en portugais. Elle n'arrive pas !!
Et j'enlève une étoile pour dire mon mécontentement, alors que j'ai vu une coach ai sur les études de médecine, franchement ils s'écartent du chemin tout en ayant pas fini leur domaine de prédilection !

Concernant le portugais : vous avez raison, la langue n’est pas encore disponible. Le développement de nouveaux parcours demande un important travail pédagogique, technique et éditorial, et nous devons avancer étape par étape. Nous comprenons votre frustration et regrettons de ne pas pouvoir répondre à votre attente pour le moment.
L’ouverture de nouveaux contenus (comme la préparation aux études médicales) ne remet pas en cause notre ambition de renforcer notre cœur de métier linguistique. Elle répond à d’autres besoins exprimés par nos apprenants, tout en restant dans notre logique d’apprentissage personnalisé.
