This is a follow-up to my original review from May. I feel compelled to respond again in light of what I believe are misleading statements made by Gym Location and its owner, their public reply to my first review.

To clarify the key points of my experience:

I informed Gym Location on multiple occasions that I would not continue paying for a membership that I believe was mis-sold. I advised them to take legal action if they wished to pursue the matter. Despite this, they did not initiate court proceedings immediately but instead continued to attempt direct debits from my account.

After being unable to collect payment, they used previously deleted bank details—held within their app—to take three payments, which I disputed with my bank.This is a fact which I have proof from my bank and screenshots of my membership account.

Legal proceedings were only initiated after I raised those disputes.

As part of the small claims process, a mediation session took place yesterday. At the mediator’s request, I made a goodwill offer of £150. Gym Location offered to reduce their claim to £400. Neither offer was accepted, and the matter is now proceeding to court. I am confident in my position, which is supported by documented evidence.

It is also concerning that Gym Location included my full name in their response to my original review without my prior consent. This was done after they requested verification through Trustpilot, allegedly not knowing who had submitted the review. However, the owner had previously contacted me directly by phone regarding my review in a manner I found distressing. If Trustpilot was unaware that my personal details would be publicly disclosed in this way, that raises questions about their data handling practices.

Since my original review, I have been contacted privately by current and former members who share similar experiences and concerns. While I cannot verify their individual experiences, its clear this issue has now become bigger than just my case—it's about standing up to business practices that use intimidation, misinformation, and pressure tactics against customers who refuse to be silenced.

This situation could have been resolved amicably, —a path any reasonable business owner would take to protect their reputation. Instead, Gym Location has taken an adversarial approach, which is disappointing.

For anyone reading this and facing a similar situation: there are channels available to challenge what you believe to be unfair or aggressive treatment. I’m pursuing this case not just for myself, but in support of others who may feel unable to do so themselves.

Update based on the Gyms reply below:

I’ve avoided responding publicly, but the gyms repeated false and damaging claims leave me no choice.

Accusing me of fraud is completely false and highly defamatory. It’s a serious allegation, and I won’t comment further as this will be addressed in court.

However as the saying goes people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones and the gym wants to make false accusations against me but fails to address the following :

– The fake reviews written by Gym staff which I have proof of and have already provided that to Trustpilot
– The fact their staff mis-sold me a membership by giving me false information - proof also submitted to Trustpilot
– The fact the owner called me and was abusive and threatening towards me about my reviews and non payment. I have witnesses to this incident.
- The gym continues to flag my reviews each time I update them to add context to the Gyms inaccurate reply’s. This is an abuse of the flagging policy and I am forced to remove facts surrounding my experience.

And there is so much more. These are not minor complaints—they’re serious breaches of trust and legality that will be fully addressed with evidence and witnesses in court.

I’ve been coming here for a few months and it’s easily the best gym I’ve ever joined. The equipment is always clean and well-maintained, the atmosphere is motivating, and the staff is super friendly and helpful. This gym has something for everyone. Highly recommend

I’ve been going to the gym since last year. The place is clean, staff are friendly and helpful.its got everything you need.

Good equipment, nice and clean friendly staff

Impressed with their new Eastbourne gym. Free parking and always spaces available. I generally visit in the evenings after 5.30pm. Never too busy. Always squat racks available, plus treadmills, weights & all the equipment for functional fitness. I’ve never had an issue using any equipment I’ve wanted to use.
There have been some treadmills that have been out of use a few times - assume broken? But they are fixed quickly and have never seen the same out of action the next visit. I generally go 4/5 times a week.
Staff seem friendly - well those that I’ve spoken to are.
I moved from another gym where users seemed more interested in sitting on (and blocking) the equipment whilst using their phones. I’ve not encountered that here. People seem to be here to use the gym as intended.
I can’t comment on the changing rooms or classes as I’ve used neither. But booking a class seems a pretty simple process, and they offer a fair few.

So, I've been hitting this gym for a couple of months, and overall, it's pretty good, especially considering the free parking – that's a huge plus! But, I've noticed a few things that could really make it awesome. First off, some of the machines are definitely showing their age and could use a tune-up. Also, the cable machines are always missing handles or ropes – super annoying! It gets pretty packed here, especially in the evenings, and there just aren't enough machines to go around. Since there's plenty of space, it would be amazing if they added more equipment.

Specifically, I think adding a couple more cable machines (like a functional trainer or a dual adjustable pulley) would be a game-changer, especially since the existing ones are always busy. And seriously, more cable attachments are a must! These upgrades would really take this gym to the next level. Still, for the price, it's a solid gym.

Very spacious gym

I joined a newly opened branch before it actually opened. And on paper, I'm getting a great deal. There's a good range of classes and, being a brand new gym, the equipment is all shiny and new and they've got a good range of machines. However, one month in and I've cancelled my membership and will go back to my old and tired looking gym; it turns out that new and shiny isn't necessarily better. For one thing, this place is way over subscribed. The car park is often completely full, they pack way too many people into each class, and the aesthetically pleasing but completely impractical single entrance turnstile means you can end up queuing for several minutes just to walk in. But the main reason I'm not keen on this gym is harder to explain. The vibe is all wrong (for me anyway). I got a sense of it from the lengthy and stern contract I signed to join and from the very first open day where everything was very strict and formal and not particularly friendly, and that feeling has been confirmed during the month I've been there. Like I said, it's difficult to explain a 'vibe' but if you're after a gym that's laid back and friendly and where members are more concerned with working out than being seen and Instagraming their gym life, this probably isn't the gym for you.

Can't fault this gym. Equipment is of good quality, good range of workout available, clean and tidy and not too busy currently so was able to hop on and off exactly what I wanted.

Gym Eastbourne is absolutely brilliant. The gym is first class and looks very professional inside. It is a large warehouse building on an industrial estate. There is plenty of space and light with brand new state of the art equipment. Very modern, clean and tidy. There is always someone cleaning constantly, whether the changing rooms, floor or equipment and staff are very polite and friendly. Also there are seats to sit down and refreshments available.
