Kayaking, Hiking and Snowshoeing in Norway
I’ve just spent three days out and about in Forsand / Lysefjord in Norway. Met up with our Gutsy Girls host, Rosy, at the airport and started my adventure. This was my first time on an all girls adventure break and I was a little apprehensive. I had no need. I was with a great bunch of girls of varying ages (I’m no spring chicken), all of whom were there to have a good time. Sebastian was our guide and chef and did a fantastic job. I kayaked and snowshoed for the first time, all the gear provided, it was an amazing experience. Accommodation was warm and cozy, I especially enjoyed the sauna after a dip in the fjord. The home cooked food was delicious and plentiful and great care was taken with food intolerances and allergies. The biggest decision now is ‘which trip next’… there are so many to chose from.
Norway Beginners Downhill
I recently came back from the Norway beginners downhill ski trip, my first with Gusty Girls.
As with any group progression rate varied amongst the participants, as there were 8 of us this did mean there was a little too much standing around on occasion. Our ski instructor did their best to allocate a fair amount of time across each member of the group, however I think having two instructors across the group would have allowed for less standing around and thus faster progress.
The area itself is beautiful and the available ski runs are great for beginners. By day three some of us were able to ski too and from the hotel which was a rewarding accomplishment.
The accommodation was great. The individual hotel rooms were incredibly clean, comfortable and spacious. They afforded beautiful views across the landscape.
It was such a treat having all three meals catered for us, and meant we never were hungry or without food. A particular highlight was the three course dinner menu which changed each day.
All said, my favourite part of the trip was our wonderful host Esma. She truly went above and beyond to make sure everyone was safe and happy on the trip. I hope if you book a trip with Gutsy Girls you will be lucky enough to have Esma host you!
In all the trip was great fun and I left feeling far more confident in my skills and excited to book my next ski trip.
First GG Trip - Iceland
Back from the Iceland Beginners XC Ski, Snowshoe and Horse Riding Adventure trip (not forgetting the Forest Lagoon Spa and Whale Watching).
Truly could not fault a thing. Our GG Host Rae was great company and made sure everything ran smoothly and kept us posted pre/during/return trip. The activities were great and really well instructed throughout. The food was plentiful - a special mention to Ólöf & team who truly spoilt us with their hospitality.
Met the most fabulous group of GG’s and I already have my eye on the next trip! So glad I took the plunge and booked this trip - a truly magical experience.
Finland Halti ski tour
I recently took part in the Finland Halti ski tour. A hut to hut expedition. It’s was certainly challenging but that made it all the more rewarding. The local guide Joose was really knowledgeable and experienced and we learned a lot about Finnish culture from him. Our host Wendy was fabulous! Super kind and organised and made sure she checked in with us all through the week to make sure we were okay in the challenging conditions of arctic Lapland. Our group of women were really good and we all worked well together to make sure everything got done with boiling water, prepping food, building fires etc. Had such a great time and would definitely do something similar again :))
Back country hut to hut experience was…
Back country hut to hut experience was a great adventure and very well organised by Gutsy Girls
Really recommend
Really recommend! I did the Iceland February trip and it was really good. It was my first time participating in a group trip and I had the most enjoyable time. The group was super nice and friendly and the mood was great every day. Fliss, the Gutsy Girl responsible for the group was very thoughtful with everyone and always with a smile. The organisation and communication was without any remarks even when we need to adapt a bit differently because of weather conditions. I would definitely participate again in a trip!
Ski Touring in Sweden
I have recently returned from the gutsy girls introduction to ski touring trip in Sweden. Our gutsy girls host Dom was excellent, really taking the time to make sure that everyone had the best trip possible. The hotel was cozy and a great place to come back to after a long day in the cold! Our local guides, Jonna and Axel, were also very knowledgeable and did a great job of adjusting the plan when conditions or the needs of the group changed
My third gutsy girls winter trip
My third gutsy girls winter trip! This time to the dolomites snowshoeing - loved every second, no low points at all. Organised & kind host Jaya, knowledgeable mountain guide Davide, excellent & inspiring company in the other guests. I know I can relax & rely on gutsy girls to provide lovely activities, comfortable accommodation & honestly the best food I’ve had on any kind of group trip. All round laughs & good fun!
An Exceptional Norway Adventure – Truly Outstanding Guides
I had an absolutely fantastic experience with Gutsy Girls in Norway - this was my second trip with them.
Jennifer was an outstanding guide and just great fun!! She was knowledgeable, calm, incredibly supportive, and created such a reassuring atmosphere throughout the trip. Whether we were snowshoeing, hiking, or kayaking, I always felt completely safe and well looked after. Both Jennifer and Sebastian showed excellent judgement, particularly when navigating changing weather conditions, and their professionalism and attentiveness really stood out. There was a moment during our kayaking activity where their decision-making and awareness were especially impressive, which only reinforced how conscientious and capable they are.
What I really appreciated was how patient and attentive the team were. Everyone in the group had different abilities and energy levels, yet they made sure each person felt comfortable, encouraged. The organisation of the trip was seamless, and it was clear a great deal of care had gone into the overall experience.
The activities themselves were incredible - challenging, memorable, and hugely enjoyable. I genuinely could not rate the guiding and overall experience highly enough.
If I were to suggest one area for improvement, it would be the food. Given the high-endurance nature of the activities, a bit more variety in the meals would have made a big difference. The meals were largely vegetarian (with salmon on the final night), and while perfectly adequate, additional options or greater variation would enhance an otherwise exceptional trip.
Overall, this was a truly wonderful experience. Jennifer was absolutely superb and played a huge role in making the trip so enjoyable. I would recommend Gutsy Girls to anyone considering an adventure with them.
Snowshoeing in the Dolomites
I just spent a week snowshoeing in the Dolomites with Gutsy Girls and I would wholeheartedly recommend- amazing views, really rewarding and challenging walks, a great guide and host and a really lovely bunch of girls.
Snowshoeing Dolomites - the first group , a great addition to Gutsy Girls portfolio.
My 3rd Gutsy Girls trip in a year, I’ve found my tribe. Everything from my initial enquiry, to hugging the host goodbye has been seamless.
Verona is less than 30mins from the airport with direct bus, so worth considering a night stay.
Very much a beginners trip, our 5 days outings all around 30mins drive so varied and gave us a true feel of being in the mountains and the forested slopes, with the Guide putting a lot of though into changing the days of the intinery to unsure we got the best of the weather ( sunshine ☀️ ) Davide kind and knowledgeable & keen to share.
All my hosts have been exceptional
Hotel Pippo friendly hotel within a community ( though never explored )
Good sized rooms, basic, well appreciated sauna, jacuzzi, stream room.
Good selection at breakfast.
Evening meal was a highlight, exceptional quality, choices and number of courses.
Amazing woman laughing, sharing, supporting make these trips special. 🧡
Do the toboggan 🤣
I was aiming to crack the cross country…
I was aiming to crack the cross country skiing after trying with no teaching before. One day didn't solve issues completely but a great help. Full on trip. Lots of fun. Great food. I hadn't ridden in 15 years and now I don't know why not. Who knew eider ducks need tyres. We saw a whale. All the facilitators were so committed to giving us the best time. Thermal spa so good
Wonderful multi activity holiday in…
Wonderful multi activity holiday in Iceland.Amazing and beautiful remote location , comfortable accommodation and delicious food. Action packed so felt had been away for far longer but perfect pace . Such lovely enthusiastic local instructors , felt privileged to be there. Thermally heated pool and sauna soaked away any aches and floatation therapy any cares. Northern lights appeared every night as a bonus. And best of all the group of fellow gutsy girls , I haven’t laughed so much in a very long time.
Three trips and counting
I’ve been on three trips with Gutsy Girls and I’m about to head out on my fourth—which probably says it all! If you love full, active days packed with athletics and adventure, all bookended by cozy *lodging and fantastic meals, these trips are absolutely for you.
Each experience includes a knowledgeable local guide and a Gutsy Girls host who keeps everything running smoothly, so you can just focus on having fun. With a small group of 6–8 adventurous, kind women, the vibe is supportive, empowering, and genuinely uplifting. I can’t recommend these trips enough!
(* please check your own itinerary as some adventures don't use hotels. I have done the XC ski retreat in Norway, Hut to Hut hiking in Slovenia (which due to rain was all in hotels) and hiking in the Pyrenees.)
Snowshoeing in the Pyrenees
I have just returned from a fantastic trip snowshoeing in the Pyrenees, this was my second Gutsy Girls trip and it was as good as the first!
The communication and information from the time of booking was great. The trip itself was fantastic - the hotel was welcoming and cosy, the owner Maria could not do enough for us. The snowshoeing was great fun, I’d previously done the Finland snowshowering trip but the terrain in the Pyrenees was very different and I enjoyed the challenge. It was tiring at times but we were all so well supported and were rewarded with some amazing views! I was part of a fantastic group of supportive, fun and interesting women - it was a pleasure to spend time with them all. The evening meals were absolutely delicious, we visited some lovely restaurants in Sallent.
Izzy our GG host was so welcoming and supportive. Our local guide was Sara from Hike Pyrenees, she was absolutely amazing! The whole trip was organised so well - everything ran like clock work from the hikes to the restaurant reservations! We had bad weather one day which meant we couldn’t go snowshoeing but Sara had a back up plan and took us to Riglos for an amazing hike in the warm February sunshine. She thought of everything - even down to cold beers at the end of a long day! Sara was excellent at encouraging us all and going at a pace that felt comfortable for the whole group.
I can’t recommend this trip enough! It is incredibly good value given the input from Hike Pyrenees, the hotel and the amazing food!
Bravo!
So, I went on the Norway cross-country skiing trip because I was desperate to see some snow and wanted to revive long-forgotten skills. Little had I expected it to be so much fun, so packed full of great experiences, such a wonderful location (beautiful Venabu), great food, wonderful weather, perfect snow conditions - but most of all! To find myself in a group of women aged between 23 and 65 - all different nationalities, walks of life and personalities and within 1-2 days become simply a group of friends having the best possible time, pushing ourselves and each other to try new (and old!) things - ice bath, tobogganing etc - and having such fun, great conversations, learning from each other - older from younger and vice versa - well, I think it goes to show you have a great concept here! Much helped by having a wonderful GG host who could not have done a better job! Bravo! Whereto next?
Norway Kayak and Snowshoe adventure…
Norway Kayak and Snowshoe adventure (Jan 26).
What an amazing adventure. Norway is breathtaking.
The trip was extremely well organised. The local guide Sebastian was super friendly, helpful, relaxed and knowledgeable.
Acomodation was in a beautiful location. Food was great (though we did have to ask for a little more. Think our group had big appetites.
I wasn't feeling well during the trip. The hostess Becki W, looked after me. Sourcing medication and ensuring I was to carry on with the excursions.
We had a minor incident whilst on the trip which was swiftly dealt with by the local reps and Gutsy Girls.
Can highly recommend.
The only negative feedback I have is that the Gutsy Girls website is a little clunky to use, via moblie app
Chill and learn to ski whatever your age
This was an incredible experience. I am an older woman with only a few days of skiing experience and wanted to gain confidence and improve my technique. From the airport onwards we were well cared for with everything taken care of. Trillevallen is a suburb quiet ski resort. Immaculate empty piste, well maintained lifts, and a wonderful hotel. Our instructor maintained a safe, fun space to learn sharing his joy of skiing. The progress was gentle yet incredible. First time skiers, beginners all managed blue runs with confidence and at no point did we not feel in control and safe. The host was wonderful and managed the small group well. We all got on and had a lot of laughs. Would love to do an improvers course.
It has been of the best trips!
It has been of the best trips. China, our host, Ursula our ski instructor and all the girls in the group were just fantastic! And what a beautiful place in Norway it was. Saw northern lights, learned how to ski, cold water plunge, home made meals, yoga, sauna and incredible company with so many laughs! Thank you for a very memorable trip GutsyGirls, China, Ursula and all the girls in the group! Kristina
I highly recommend multi activity trip to Iceland
I had a fabulous trip to Iceland doing varied activities including cross country skiing, trekking on Icelandic horses, watching humpback whales in the fjord and hiking. The latter was instead of snowshoeing because of a thaw in the previous weeks and the skiing had to be in a different location on the island but it in no way diminished our enjoyment. Accommodation was in a remote, spectacular setting. Very comfortable beds & with an outside but warm swimming pool, hot tub and sauna for recovery each evening. Food was top notch quality and plentiful with no absolutely problems with my tricky food allergies. The Northern Lights appeared on 2 out of 4 nights which topped off a really enjoyable few days. Öløf was a brilliant & entertaining Icelandic host and Candy our Gutsy Girls minder was friendly & kind. I’d definitely recommend this trip.
