Totally screwed up company. Service gets worse instead of better. Can't renew online now. Can't renew over chat. Can't download app outside of USA. Always need to add money every time I go to the states to use the phone, even though I pay each month. Now Gen Mobile stopped doing auto payments. Never again Avoid this company and get a real phone service provider.
Gen Mobile: You want more information? Read below. I stand by my claims.
1. I live in both Japan and Hawaii. I bought a Gen Mobile sim card in July 2023, in Honolulu, Hawaii. I returned to Japan, and found that I CANNOT download the Gen Mobile app outside of Japan. Very inconvenient.
At least at that time, I could access the online website and check my account and renwew each month by paying on the website. Yet, each time I returned to the USA and used the phone. I had no data, each time, no data, so I had to buy another 10GB plan, even though I had paid. And I hadn't used the data for months, in spite of paying for it each month.
2. Gen Mobile has an online website. Years ago I was able to check my account on line. As of today, I no longer can check my account on the website. There is no menu item to check account any more. All I see displayed are messages to download the app. I CAN'T download. I AM OUTSIDE the USA.
3. For years, I was able to renew my account via the online website, so paid via my credit card. One time, I paid for two 3-month plans, for a total of 6 months. I received an email messages after I month, saying either pay or my account will be deleted. I contacted Gen Mobile via chat and Gen Moble had never credited my account for 6 months, but for 1 month, in spite of the fact that renewed for 6 months.
4.What I found is Gen Moble never charged the full amount for 6 months, So, I had to go through explaining about the payments on the online chat and pay. At that time I was able to renew via the chat app. (As of yesterday, Gen Mobile chat people will not and cannot renew via chat.) Another example of worsening service.
5.When I first got the Gen Mobile sim card, I set up auto payment , but auto payment never worked at that time. So I had to pay each time with the credit card via the online website. I could pay to renew at that time through the online website URL. (FYI, as of last night, April 29, I could access the renew URL but each time I checked renew for 3 months and added it to the shopping cart, the cart remained empty and I could not get the renweal request to go into the cart.) Another bad experience of the worsening service of Gen Mobile.
Last year I again set up auto payment, and it worked until this year January 2026. Until then, I would get a notice from my bank, advising that the auto payment was made. However, after January 2026, I never received any bank notices about payments. I contacted Gen Moble chat yesterday, and according to Gen Mobile, my card was declined, so no further payments were made since January. Yet, Gen Mobile never contacted me once to advise about the declined card. Never once contacted me to advise that the payment was not made. Never once contact me to advise that my account was not being renewed. How ridiculous!!. What kind of bad customer service is that? So, as of now, my phone number is going to die and I am not going to spend my money to call the US to renew again. Enough of 3 years of unconvenience from Gen Moble for me.

The Gen Mobile app complains because I have enabled developer options in Android and refuses to update to the latest version. The app itself gives an error message communicating this. There is no valid excuse for this. All it accomplishes is restriction of consumer choice and "enshittification" of the brand. I have never had a service provider complain because developer options/ADB were enabled. It's a feature built in to the android operating system and should not affect the mobile app's purpose or operation in any way. Someone in management needs to straighten this out.
Phone Service does not work with Lineage OS. Again, there is no valid reason for this. I have never had problems using Lineage OS with T Mobile or it's various MVNO's. There is no valid technical reason to discriminate. Service providers provide a service and that service should be (phone) operating system agnostic. This isn't rocket science. T-Mobile and all of it's various MVNO's are doing this right now, and have for years. Gen mobile needs to do the same.
