Burchell Edwards is one of the worst estate agencies I have dealt with. Their branch in Hucknall (Nottingham) was the estate agents for a property I was about to buy. It was misinformation from the beginning to the end. First, they'll want you to use their preferred Mortgage Advisors, otherwise NO DEAL. After waiting for 6 Months with my mortgage and everything ready (as early as 1 month after the offer), Burchell Edwards called to inform me that the developers have increased the price of the property and that if I can not afford the new price then they'll have to pull out. Such nonsense! After all their lies and making me incur several other costs: from extras, solicitors fees, to even paying their "preferred" mortgage advisors. They said they are willing to refund my reservation fee and expenses for the extras. Nothing more nothing less. Even with this refund I had to chase them several times to get it processed. My advice to everyone who intends to use any of Burchell Edwards' services is simple: Run as fast as you can; they are trouble. To be warned is to be forearmed!

Exceptionally poor at everything other than collecting money. I moved into a new rental 5 weeks ago - reported that there was no hot water and 5 weeks later nothing has been done.

Do not use this company! They tell you incorrect information, only to catch you as a client. Then they refuse to help you.

Excellent service received by Emily. She was really helpful and got me a quick moving date.

We have found Burchell Edwards extremely difficult to deal with in all departments and on occasions showed lack of empathy, sympathy and decency, with us having been lied to and forgotten time after time.

Never recommend this company to anyone. We given contract to sell our flat to them in March but still no where near completion. Avoid Avoid please

I have used a number of agents over the last 20 years for my rental properties and I have learned the hard way not to use corporate letting agents. You get passed from one department to another. There are endless mistakes and incompetencies. I’ve had many different account managers as there is a high turnover of staff. They promise things will be done and they aren’t you chase them they promise things will be done again they don’t you have to chase them again

One example of many is that I have been trying to get a rental payment from the landlord insurance policy I took out with The agent. After three months nothing had happened. I chased it up and the branch had not returned the claim form. I then wrote a formal complaint. I assumed it would be sorted. One month later it still hasn’t been actioned.
They also use local contractors who have to pay a commission to the letting agents so you will be paying a higher amount than if you found your own contractor. They definitely put their own interest above that of the landlord.
I have also been told that they no longer hold the keys for my property when I know they are there. This is one of the very basics that you would think that our local letting agent and hold the keys especially when the landlord lives over 200 miles away. When I did visit the branch I was quite surprised at the lack of local knowledge of the area considering they’re meant to be property experts

I have never written a bad review before as I give all businesses the benefit of the doubt or another chance or understand people have bad day but Burchell Edwards seems to top themselves with every encounter I've had with them to be the most incompetent company I've ever had the displeasure to deal with.
Where to start! When we first viewed the flat we were to rent out the person we had been dealing with never showed up to the viewing and when we rang after waiting outside for over 30 mins we were told to ring the buzzer and the tenant at the time would show us around. Unsurprisingly the tenant was unaware there was a viewing but was happy to show up around anyway. Immediately we decided to take the flat as the tenant said no one else had viewed it so we were sure to get it and we did... or so we were told! After having given over a months notice to our other flat and because of delays from Burchell Edwards for us to move in we had to stay with a friends for a few nights in between moving out of our old place and into our new one. We were then told just a few days before we were to move in that the landlord had just chose us to move from all the applicants and congratulations we were to move in... we had already been told we got it and moved out of our old flat at this stage lucky we did get it or we would have been out in the streets! After being dragged around to 3 different Burchell Edwards offices across the midlands to sign different forms and collect keys from another one etc (i don't see why this could not all have been done in the one store, but why am I not surprised) we finally got the keys and moved in and did not have to deal with them for another year...thankfully!
(I must mention that everyone except for Karena has been useless. She is literally the saving grace of this company and I could not fault in the time we dealt with her.)
A year later we gave out notice to move out and emailed Burchell Edwards numerous times and getting no reply then was told that they no longer have anything to do with the management of the flat, despite the giant Burchell Edwards sign in the car area advertising renting out the the apartment and still have our deposit. It took 6 weeks to get an answer after giving 2 months notice. After moving out it has taken nearly a month (and counting) to get our deposit back even though we have receive confirmation from the people to maintain the building who confirmed to us and Burchell Edwards that the flat was left in perfect condition and for them to release our deposit, and email confirmation from the landlord again for Burchell Edwards to release back our deposit. After forwarding all these emails to Burchell Edwards as proof they can give us back the deposit they still have not and even the landlord said said he has already told them weeks ago to give us out deposit back but still no reply!
Avoid this company at all cost. I have never and hopefully will never have to deal with such a useless company and the worse communication I've ever experienced!!

After having a few different estate agents I was deciding who to use to advertise my property. I rang Burchell Edwards to actually view a house they had for sale but was told on the phone that it had been sold that day (fair enough) they then talked me into having them value my house and booked an appointment with one of their advisors (who I'll leave anonymous). He came round and was very professional and explained what they will do for me and how great they are blah blah blah so I decided to go with them and have the premium package photos and use their conveyancing team etc etc.
That was about as professional as these clowns got.
The photos were bang average and didn't advertise every room in the property and didn't look any different to standard photos on rightmove.... Nevermind so I thought.
They didn't do any viewings I had to do all of them, they didn't even offer to attend.
Once my property was sold I heard off Burchell once., They didn't do any chasing up I had to chase up everything, didn't email to see how it's going or why it's taking 6 months to complete all for the princely sum of £2700
I did have one phone call though 2 days before I was about to complete to ask me if I'm still looking for a property?? I mean come on what an absolute shower.

Called me on day of completion asking when I'm dropping the keys in luckily my buyer and I had already discussed this and wrote burchells out of the equation.

I honestly won't ever use a estate agents again and I'll advise everyone who moves to just use an online agent with low fees because you end up doing everything yourself.

The sooner some tech whizkid comes along and designs something to wipe out estate agents and conveyancers the better because the whole system is an absolute abomination and costs so much money.

All my dealings have been with the Tamworth branch and after a promising start I have been left INCREDIBLY disappointed. The start of the process, we dealt with Chris who is EXCEPTIONAL and quite frankly the ONLY reason we went with Burchell Edwards after getting 4 different agents in to value our property and quote for services. Chris is very professional & knowledgeable, nothing is too much trouble and he was fantastic when performing the viewings, hence the 1st star I have given. The second star is for John Wasim, the negotiator that agreed the sale with our buyers. Again very professional and polite and ALWAYS called me back with updates etc. Unfortunately, as soon as the sale was agreed, it has all gone drastically downhill and completely ruined any chance of me ever going with BE again!

When Chris valued my house and quoted for services, part of the pitch is that there is a 5 strong team of after sales experts, who will oversee the sale and keep us updated/do all the chasing etc. It was for this reason that we were satisfied with paying what was actually the MOST EXPENSIVE agent fees out of all the quotes we received, because we believed that we would receive a service worthy of the increased cost, taking into account the whole after sale experience we were told to expect. Unfortunately, there has been NO AFTER SALE support whatsoever!!!!!

I never heard a peep for around 3 weeks after I accepted our buyers offer, despite sending around 3 or 4 emails to the Tamworth office. I then received a really feeble excuse that their computer system had some sort of glitch, which caused the lack of reply - IMPOSSIBLE CONSIDERING I SENT MY EMAILS TO MULTIPLE EMAIL ADDRESSES AT THE BRANCH, including John's who had always received and replied promptly, prior to passing the file over to the after sales team. So this was clearly a lie. After that, I received NO proactive updates, no evidence that BE were chasing the solicitors or paying any attention AT ALL to my sale, so I was forced to keep chasing them to take action.

I am not exaggerating when i say EVERY, SINGLE, EMAIL I HAVE SENT has been ignored, until I followed up with a snotty email complaining about the lack of response. Our buyers solicitors are being a nightmare and BE have done nothing to help me speed them up, instead they've made up silly excuses to allow their ineptitude to continue without challenge.

It has now been around 15 weeks since we accepted our offer and BE have done NOTHING to expedite the sale. I will never, ever use them again and have requested details as to how I can make a formal complaint. I expected to receive a discount of 50% of my fee, considering I have only received 50% of the service I was promised!!!!!! My fee is £2400 in total, extortionate considering all that has paid for is a few photos, some 5/10 minute viewings and nothing else! so angry.

I spoke to Laura today and she was just so lovely! She was very friendly, took time to explain things to me, it almost felt like someone I had known before! I've spoken to several lettings agents over the past 2 weeks as I've been seriously searching for a place to rent, but none has been this nice to me on first contact. Whether I get to rent with Burchell or not, I just want to say Laura is amazing. Thanks

Sold house via burchells .. worse experience ever .. from not turning up to viewings to giving false information. I wasn’t told of all offers only what was convenient.. I had potential buyers with higher offers knocking on door saying Burchells were not interested in talking to them as they were busy and had already presented offers

I would advise to avoid Shirley branch. They r not professional and do not work in the clients best interest

When I complained I was told their job was to introduce a buyer only and not to necessarily provide a good service.

This was the first time renting a property and I must say that Emily & Tom was highly professional from the beginning to the end of the process.
Special thanks to Emily who answered every question I could think of and even the ones I couldn’t.

We had our property evaluated by this estate agent Sheldon branch but we took another agent with better deal and service to sell our property after thorough deliberation. Now we are looking for property to buy in which some of the property that interest us were advertised by this estate agent. Unprofessionally they refused us to view their property to us. Alibis given were already under offer which is not as still on the market, need to get their mortgage advisor and never get a reply with unless you call them. The most unprofessional and unfriendly estate agent I've come across.

1 star is being kind. A vile estate agents. Not sure how landlords and seller give these lot business. I’ve been trying to enquire for various properties for weeks and months to no avail. I even popped into the branch to see why I was being ignored when I even tried ringing. A person below said they so pushy on using their own brokers and if you decline they don’t go with you when it comes to accepting your offer. This is so true and I personally witnessed this. Diabolical of a business.
I would stay well clear of these guys.
All they love doing is taking your details down so they can build their silly portfolio.

The staff we were in contact with in the Castle Bromwich branch went above and beyond to help us secure our home. Overcoming some hurdles that were beyond any of our control. Great job and easily contactable.

Vile company and totally unprofessional. As previous reviewer mention about pushiness onto using a broker of their choice, so much so they cancelled a viewing because I already a broker sorted. This company should be audited thoroughly by the ombudsman.

Shocking so called customer service. I’ve spent over a year attempting to get the secured deposit moved across via the Sheldon branch, to no avail. Birkenhead main office have been giving me the run around for 2-months, still no monies, shameful so called service

After sales department is disgusting! Have been told that I shouldn’t expect them to complete anything quicker than 4-6 months. In their emails they use the expression, ‘we are working on this ASAP’. Today I have been told ASAP means, when they can. So fed up!!! Should have been able to complete in time for the changes in stamp duty but they have admitted to not starting any work on the file, losing paperwork and being too busy to accommodate the work they have. Our sale is not part of a chain, searches are complete. It should be simple. Cannot stress how much I regret using Burchell Edwards.
