Lots of features, but frustrating to actually use
We’ve been with BrightHR for around three years and, unfortunately, I’m genuinely unsure how it gets so many glowing reviews.
It looks impressive on paper because there are lots of features, but actually using the system day to day is a different story. It just isn’t intuitive. Finding things is harder than it should be, working time patterns are an absolute pain, and the rota seems to exist in its own little world without properly connecting to other parts of the system.
So much is still manual. Tasks that should take seconds seem to involve multiple steps, repeated input or workarounds. Blip is inconsistent too, which rather defeats the point of having a clocking-in app.
Support is very hit and miss. Some of the people we’ve spoken to have been brilliant and genuinely wanted to help. Others have been dismissive and seemed like they couldn’t wait to get you off the phone.
Email support has been particularly poor. We’ve had emails simply go unanswered, even after chasing several times. That’s incredibly frustrating when you’re paying for a business support system.
Then there’s the price. BrightHR isn’t cheap, and when you compare the cost and functionality with some of the alternatives now available, I struggle to see the value. The lengthy contracts don’t help either.
In around three years, I can’t think of any notable improvements that have made the core system significantly better. Payroll was added, but at additional cost and with further long-term commitments required.
BrightHR has plenty of features and lots of potential, but our experience has been that too much is disconnected, too much is manual and doing almost anything takes longer than it should.
After three years, we’ve given it a fair chance. Sorry BrightHR, but we haven’t been happy.

Poor response from accounts
I have been with bright hr for 5 years. We closed the business and in the last 3 weeks I have been trying to close account. I have been promised call backs and etc with no response. I have contacted now them on at least 3 occasions and only received promises.

Aaron Maher ran an onboarding session for us, and it was very helpful. Having a live session, rather than just written introductory instructions, it made us feel welcomed.
One point I'd like to raise, however: we have asked several times to update our main point of contact email address, but different teams continue to use the address that was originally registered for e-signature purposes. I'd appreciate it if the master contact information could be updated so that all important communications reach the right person.
