The rental company BERENT is dishonest. They made me pay € 375,- for a damage which had already been there and which I didn't cause, they were caused by some previous clients. There were even dots for these damage on the design they give you beforehand (without giving you the pictures). Nevertheless, the most unfriendly employee claimed that they scratches had "grown" and "expanded" because of my using the car.
This is ridiculous for two reasons:
1. I only used motorways and main roads and there wouldn't even have been the slightest opportunity to scratch the car any further
2.. The darker and lighter lines of the"complete" scratches continued from the top to the bottom in exactly the same pattern, which proves that there was only one incident of supposed scratches and not two, otherwise there would have had a different divergent structure between bottom and top, the lines would not be continuous.
I may add, even if they did repaint these scratches (which they won't in order to catch other innocent customers off guard), they would hire just one painter for the whole thing and not two, so it's ridiculous that they charge two customers twice, even if there had been an expansion of scratches ( which was definitely not they case)
They are not serious, they offer you cheap rates, in order to catch up with "bogus" damages. There has to be a way to defend yourself. Why are we so defenceless as car rental customer in front of the most absurd claims?
They also take advantage of the fact that you are in a hurry to get to the airport (they open at 8:00 which is kind of late for a European capital), in order to make you pay things which you shouldn't have to pay for.

We waited 2 hours to get to the customer service desk. Everyone were waiting including family with kids and senior citizen. After giving all the documents and paid for the full insurance (we do not want any issue when returning the car), they showed us the car which is not similar to what we have booked. Then after we agree to take a smaller car, they told us our details disappeared from the system. Now they have to key in again. We told them we can't be waiting again as we should be on our way to Agrave as it is already 4.30p.m., they told us they can cancel our booking & refund our money with an full arragont attitude. This is sooooo rude and no consideration at all after we waited for more than 2 hours. Then we waited again for them to miggel with their system for another 15 mins. And now they tell us to take the car without contract as they are not able to generate the contract from the system. We refuse as what if we have any problem on our way to Agrave or got stop by the police. So we waited again for the contract. While returning the car we told the staff we didnt return the petrol full tank because that is what we were provided when we took the car, they staff told me, I know, I can see you do not have to tell me. This is a really bad company with very RUDE staff. Please avoid this company at all cost. I paid everything even with full insurance from the company which is not cheap at all and the service is nightmare. I dont even get this kind of service from a streetfood vendor.

Agree with all the comments. We found the airport meet and greet, waited 20 mins for the shuttle bus, were driven 15 mins to the Base, waited 15 mins to check in, took 20 mins to check in, waited another 15 mins to get to the next stage of hopefully getting some keys to an actual car. Now having the rip off insurance chat - we’ve taken out our own in full so the man is shaking his head.. Been here so long I thought I’d write this. Dreading the actual car scratches check and rental experience. Never ever again….

Worst rental experience ever. DON’T BOOK. Really avoid this nightmare
- bus at the airport, full for the next 3 rides, would take about 1 hour, so we had to take a taxi on our own expends.
- mega cues at the actual rental location, it took us almost 3 indeed THREE hours to get our car
- and against the law they insist in taking a picture of your passport and driving license. Otherwise you don’t get a car. Legally forbidden in the EU but they don’t care.

In Lisbon, be careful with drop off times if you're going to the airport. The rental place is far and the staff won't do anything to help.
Our flight was in terminal 2 and the shuttle would only leave us in T1. When we asked if they could drop us in T2 (we were the only ones in the shuttle), the driver said "no, the rules are the rules". We tried to complain that we hadn't known this at the time of booking (they only tell you once you've already paid!) And we asked what were the rules he was referring to. His answer was "my rules. Do you want to be dropped here?" In the middle of the highway...

Give yourself a lot of time for pick up and drop off. Shuttles are located just outside where the phone kiosks are located but you would never know. Unlike other car rental companies who had a rep at the airport woth their signs to direct and line up people in order, BeRent was mayhem. The directions for shuttle is not clear that we had to ask other rental places if they knew. Shuttle finally showed after 45 minutes, 20 people waiting for a 6 passenger van. They took my husband so he could start the paperwork and would be back for me and my two kids. Other customers were so rude that they kept on cutting us in line because they would swarm the van. After waiting, I said screw it and paid £25 for a taxi to the pick up (a 6 minute drive). Got there and my husband was still waiting to be helped so it was a waste. The check out process was fairly smooth, car had scratches all over the bumpers but the inside was clean. They give you a quarter of a tank and expect the same back and do not give you money back if you have it filled above a quarter tank. Make sure YOU take pictures of EVERYTHING. Inside, outside and underneath because I read that they will peg things on you at check in. Their check out paperwork for imperfections are bare minimum so protect yourself. They also charge a lot for a semi dirty car with some sand upon return. Knowing this, we vacuumed and washed the car before drop off. Drop off - they only open at 8am. Any drop off before that is a £73.80 fee. We got lucky because the guy was there for another customer otherwise we would have had to wait. He checked us out quickly, and even drove us to the airport. Diogo helped us and he was wonderful! Very polite , professional, friendly and all around 5 stars for his service. Good luck getting any help via phone- no one answers. If you need English speaking, good luck because the menu said press XX for English and it takes you to a Portuguese menu then disconnects. Overall, car was great, good gas mileage and fun/easy to drive. Their location feels safe, bright and new. A lot of options to choose from and price was good if you follow the rules to the tee. We got out full deposit back and despite driving all over Portugal on tolls roads for 3 weeks, tolls were only £60 which we thought was inexpensive compared to our home country.

Beware. An absolute scam. When we went to return the car they claimed we had damaged the vehicle and proceeded to charge us 1600 €! Thankfully we were able to locate a photo we took of the car that proved the damage to the vehicle was already there.

Their entire fleet is made up of new cars. Although the quality is great, when you return the car be ready for a bill bill for very minor damage such as for hairline scratches or minor imperfections. We returned their brand new car (that we did not ask for) in top condition. However, there were a few small scratches that could have been easily buffed out for under €100 at a local shop. But- Berent quoted us for €980 damage because the car was “new” and that “gets factored in at a higher value for the damage”. They also told us that we would need to pay for the days that the car would be out of service at the body shop. They told me on a Wednesday, that the car would be out for at least one week until the following Wednesday. However, to our advantage, we accidentally forgot our Apple AirTag on the car key fob when we returned the car. That being said, we could track the car. On Friday (2 days later), the car was being rented out to another couple and was in the middle of Portugal. This was also confirmed by a representative at the Berent. They lied straight through their teeth and wanted to charge us almost €1.000 for something a little pebble on the god forsaken highways of Portugal could have caused. I have gone on to lodge a dispute with the company, however they declined for any communication regarding the matter. I am not in the process of working with the European Consumer Centre to mediate the claim and get my money back. Additionally, I will be pressing further legal action with a consumer arbitration group for automobiles in Portugal to ensure their unfair practices get taken down. Beware- and take photos of EVERYTHING- before you sign for the car.

Terrible, the worst experience I've ever had, since I've been traveling the world in a row for 1 year.
They left me and the other customers waiting at the airport for an hour and a half (1:30). The van that took us from the airport to the office took a long time. There was also no one from the company waiting for us at the airport to provide any assistance like all other companies do. Who supported us was an employee of another company who felt sorry for Berebt's unassisted customers.
When I called Berent, I got the wrong information.
Arriving at the rental store I received a bad service from Helder who was clearly in a bad mood and treated me very badly.
To make matters worse, I received a different car (inferior) to the contracted one and with tires with the wrong calibration.
The car was not delivered with a full tank, as it would be more convenient to not have difficulties when returning it.
Really run away from Berent. Upon arriving at Lisbon airport, I realized that there are more than 10 excellent rental companies that provide a much better service, with assistance at the airport and friendly staff.

Just returned from 2 week vacation in Portugal. We used Berent and they were perfect. We did not use the transfer from the airport as we stayed a few nights in Lisbon. The people We witnessed getting off the transfer while renting and returning seemed fine and not frustrated at all. The facility is very clean and modern, well lit and organized. Desk staff were pleasant and helpful. I'm sure some staff may be rude at times but so can customers, it's a stressful, complicated exchange, one should expect some stress in these situations.
No issues with the price. Car was clean and comfortable. Staff explained the car workings, like gas cap and type of fuel and how to contact them in case of emergency. I took picture during the walk-around even though there was nothing wrong with the car at all (silly of me now that I'm thinking of it).
Again, the staff working with me were great but others were a bit abrupt. I saw a customer get upset about the $ hold during the rental and argue rather aggressively with the other agent even though the website and contract were clear on this. Another tried to use a debit card to pay and should have known better IMO. My point is, customers can be rude too and we should all be more patient when traveling.
Car return was no issues with no hidden fees. Loved Berent and will definitely use them on our next trip!

We rented the car on the 17th September from Lisbon. The yung guy with a tattooed arm who was at the desk when we picked up the car was very rude and arrogant. At first he told us we need to pay double the agreed price because the driver lost his credit card. He said there's no way how he can change the name to me, but after I called Discovery Cars they did it within a minute. He obviously knew it could be done via Discovery Cars, but didn't tell us about it. He then blackmailed us saying he won't give us the car at all if he feels like it, because it's his choice if he wants to change the name on the booking.

I rented a car at Lisbon Airport. I could not find the representative. I waited for the shuttle for 45 minutes. When we got to their garage we waited more than 2 hours to get processed and get the car.
Extremely unfriendly staff.
We had to cut our trip short by 9 days because of a severe illness in the family.
We returned the car. Brent is not even answering my e mails. Discover cars says no refund, but try Berent who of course is still not answering e mails.
I have traveled the world and have never come across such bade service and inconsiderate people.

I really had high hopes for BeRent, but they really let themselves down as soon as I stepped off the plane in Lisbon.
Shuttle bus nowhere to be found. Took a good 15 minutes of asking around, 10 minutes of calling their 'helpdesk' with nobody picking up, to finally get the shuttle.
After waiting 20 minutes in the foyer whilst agents stood around and chatted whilst 2 served, I was finally seen.
Seen to my wallet was, robbed of 171euros as part of an insurance scam the company carries out, despite Discover Cars (also avoid), claiming their insurance covered me. The agent denied me the dignity of actually reading my rental agreement.
Fleeced of my money, I was handed the keys to, in their own words 'a far superior Hyuandai Bacon', when a SEAT arona, a much better car that I'd driven before, was advertised. Inefficient, with settings faults that meant I had to reconfigure the car each and every time I drove it, it was a nightmare to get going everyday.
Getting back to the rental place, the second agent lays the first ones lies out for me. Showing me that the insurance was because I didn't want to pay the 350eur on a credit card, when I wasn't ever asked for that.
Despite emails to both BeRent and discover cars, I will not be seeing me money again.
Also, despite other companies offering an unlimited toll option, BeRent scam you with the illusion of one, which then becomes an extra €60 when you drop the car.
Just avoid them, don't be an idiot like me and look at the wrong BeRent on trust pilot before renting. Scam artists and thieves.

This is a EXTREMELY BAD company! I wish there was a possibility to give 0 as a grade.
I rented a car for a month and when returned it was not "shiny", so they charged me 100$ fee for cleaning. They are also not in the airoport, as written and send a car to pick you up, I had to wait for 2 hours for them.
Their service was very bad. Not possible to reach them.
It is a "cheap" company, but turned to be very expensive. Just pay a little more to a reputable company and save a lot of misery (and eventually they will come up with some fee to charge you, so it will be even more expensive). Stay away from them.

This was the second time we have used BeRent (Lisbon office). First time we had a good experience, upgrade to a better car and no issues except a long-ish wait to collect the car. Second time we had a good car again but on return we had to wait a long time to return the car and when the staff member did the check he said that he would have to charge us 40 euros as there was sand in the boot! We had been to the Algarve so I imagine most people would return with some sand! He was very rude and had no interest in the fact that we were returning customers and would have used them again in August. We said that we would clean it ourselves and went to nearby garage and hoovered it out within 10 mins. Ridiculous charge for cleaning - we own a house in Portugal and rent a car on a very frequent basis, I have NEVER been charged for cleaning a car. The fact that the staff member was so rude and dismissive has definitely put us off using them again. He let the company down.
