I've been with 123reg for over 10 years with no issues. Now they've removed the ability to simply forward emails for free for domain owners (e.g. from fred%smith.co.uk to fredsmith%gmail.com). Now they are asking £28 a year for an email account. This has been badly communicated. Also no communication about moving from a username/password login to emailaddress/password login.
My domain name got suspended
My domain name got suspended, because my information was not confirmed. When i raised the issue, they raised a support ticket, but fobbed me off. I asked to speak to a manager, but none were available, but they would call me back, but they never did, six hours later and still no reply or update to my support ticket. Disgusting service, my online shop has now been down for over 8 hours and they are just ignoring me, I phone to ask to speak to a manager and the guy on the other end of the phone just put the phone down on me. In 20 years of dealing with hosting companies, this is by ar the worst. I am now going to transfer away all my sevices and I will never use them again

Was with 123Reg for 15 years, just a domain that forwarded to a website nothing fancy , set it and forget it - now they want to charge for forwarding , tried to get hold of customer support , both times on hold for 25 mins then was hung up on , so I have transferred the domain elsewhere ,

Worst company I have ever dealt with. Avoid at all cost!
I have been a loyal customer for 7 years and over the past few months words can simply not describe how awful this company have been and the non existent customer service.
The most recent of issues is having over £700 taken out of my account illegally at the beginning of the month and now my website builder being cancelled and website permanently deleted as of today. Supposedly due to a request that I have made. My website is my retail company, a company that I have been building for the past 8 years, a company they have now deleted and I have lost my immediate livelihood. I have also lost access to all my customers order details, which I need to process their orders.
I am absolutely devastated this has happened and as always there is no one that can help.
I will be taking this further and I will be seeking legal action.
*Edited to say that you have also charged me double for today's renewal of my website builder, even though you have cancelled it and deleted it (without my consent). Absolutely appalling company!!!
I am loosing sales due to having no website and now you have the audacity to charge me for a service you have deleted!!!!
Shoddy process and support
As per many of the 1-star reviews on here, I'm a long term 123-reg customer who simply leases a domain for email forwarding purposes, nothing else.
Got a very confusing email from 123-reg last week telling me about an additional charge (approx £30 per year) if I want to continue using email forwarding. The first year would be free. They said the change would be implemented in the next few weeks. I tried to logon to check this but found my userid no longer worked, I had already been affected by the "proposed" change.
Once logged on most of my existing functionality had gone, I couldn't even view my existing email forwarding settings. I phoned their support line to ask a few questions. No help whatsoever, other than being told how to raise a support ticket.
Raised a ticket and got an auto-response saying someone will be back in touch between 1-2 days later.
4 days later, no updates.
In the meantime I've transferred the domain to fasthosts (took a few hours for a me.uk domain), manually reconfigured as many of my email forwarders as I could remember and set up a "catch all" for the rest. Had to contact fasthosts support a couple of times and they've answered my questions each time. The lease time I had left on my domain (just over 5 years) was transferred with it.
123-reg's processes, website and support are now shoddy and not fit for purpose. If you're in the same boat as I was I recommend you spend a bit of time moving elsewhere.

Since moving my domain elsewhere I've struggled to delete my 123-reg account. Their systems won't let me do it myself (it tells me I can't delete my account without deleting all my products, when I go to delete my products it says I don't have any). I've now spent OVER THIRTEEN weeks trying to get their support teams to delete my account (I stopped chasing after seven). It has been escalated to a "dev team" and no ETA can be provided. My support ticket kept being closed down. If it takes weeks and an escalation to try and delete a basic account then no wonder their actual website remains a work-in-progress. Utterly crap support.
Additional - the numpties are now also emailing me saying they're having trouble migrating my email mailbox, no surprise seeing I moved it elsewhere back in December '23. Truly laughable.

It comes to something when you can't even get a response to a raised ticket for a very simple problem. First ticket, 18 hours+ with no response. I've raised another ticket with a similar standard of response (none). I'm leaving.

Used them for 10 years, just moving - my needs are simple, but email stops, holding page disappears etc etc almost annually - contact help, they reply asking you what the issue is, clearly that was in the request for help ? or they just ignore it - been without email for a month yet again, help requests just get closed ( without helping), so moved the domain, pain that I did not want - but really I have been way too complacent - appalling company, inept customer service and a flaky website if generous - why did I wait so long :(

A steady move to charging for what used to be included, saying features used to "FREE" is disingenuous at best. £24 for email forwarding? Well done, another customer lost.

One of the worst companies I've EVER dealt with
Update on my previous review (after 20yrs with them, mid-September they just overnight wrecked my 6 domains/email addresses)..
Its taken me 3 months to successfully move my domains away from 123. Its been an utter nightmare and I've lost thousands in income for my online businesses. Their support is completely useless. They don't seem to care about customers at all. Its just through a mixture of googling, trial and error and luck that I've managed to get away.
eg: They now give you free 'domain protection' when you renew a domain. Except its only free year 1 (they then auto-bill you for it) and all it seems to do is make it far more complicated to transfer your domains away from them. It seems to protect them, not you.
+ Make sure you remove card/paypal details from your account if you leave. They try to renew/take payments even after you've transferred domains away.
I can't imagine them being in business for much longer. Apart from the clearly fake reviews they post themselves online, I've heard nothing for the past 6 months except peoples terrible experiences. I dread to think what will happen to peoples domains when they inevitably disappear in the night.

Have been with 123-reg for over 20 years. It has been OK but the recent move to their generation 2 webmail has been an absolute shambles.
There is no way of whitelisting email addresses and preventing mail from being dumped into a spam folder. Spam mail doesn't get forwarded. This means that you have to log in frequently to check the spam folder and manually move mail back to the inbox for forwarding.
Totally impractical. Avoid.
STOLE MONEY FROM ME over £700 fraudulently taken from my account
After 4 weeks of being ignored and after 123-Reg TOOK over £700 from my account my final email to them as PayPal refunded me!
I thank you for your utter rubbish customer service
The money has now been taken AWAY FROM YOU by PayPal so all I can say is I am grateful for at least one company understanding that you are incompetent and happy to take money from an unsuspecting customer fraudulently
I will now spend the next few months working through all my different accounts and REMOVING them all from you as you are not going to take another penny from myself or any of my clients

Be warned
Be warned! As a 123-reg customer for years, I have a few domains with them. The migration is a headache - what is where and how to make changes?
But until 15/12/2023 you cannot add a new email and take advantage of your free allocation. After 15/12/2023 you can use the allocation but only until 08/2024. As of then your previously FREE email addressees will cost about £28/annum. Why? What explanation will you be given, I received two in the same chat:
1. '‘This has been done in order to reduce the number of spammers on our servers, they were creating a lot of email addresses and loading our servers’
2. 'With the current economy, it became more costly to maintain all services operational. That is why we can no longer offer free email addresses.'

The worst company I’ve ever dealt with! After closing my accounts, they just got through pay pal to take more money for services I’ve cancelled!!! Now I will have to spend hour calling to them. And I’ve closed it because they were really terrible service, but great with taking lots of money for nothing even when you ask them to stop. Terrible terrible terrible! And customer service appalling!

Email migration is a shambles - do not use this company
We have used this company for years as they were reliable but a recent email migration has been awful.
Even today we are still having issues with sent mail not appearing in the sent folder , ghost emails being sent etc , we cannot trust this company for our busines and are now looking to move.
Disastrous service provider
Their recent unnecessary migration resulted in a total loss of mail folders and emails. No support staff to explain what has happened or try to resolve. I have been a customer since 2004. They have always had sketchy customer service but at least the emails and domain service was consistent. But now I will be changing provider and suggest you avoid them like the plague. These people have no idea. And here is the irony of writing this review, You are trying to send me a code to my email to validate the review. Not sure how long that will take to appear from the black hole of 123 Reg..........
DO NOT USE under any circumstances
Do not use them for email hosting under any circumstances.
We have been experiencing issues since we started using the service to be honest but the last 6 months have been hellish.
I can’t log in to control panel. Constantly told to change passwords and verify email addresses. Can’t login to my emails using outlook for iPhone, outlook app for windows, can’t login using webmail on chrome (pc or iPhone), can’t login using safari for iPhone or iPad. We run a small animal rescue and it’s suffering as a result of these constant email issues.
The support team are fairly useless and have a stinking attitude when you tell them things are wrong. They don’t acknowledge the issues and create bad feeling all round, with still no resolve on why we can’t login.
I would never use this company again and am only still with them so I can one day hopefully login again and move my emails over to a new service.
