I tend to be someone who doesn't like to be taken in by a service that charges money for a service you might be able to do yourself for free, but after reading the reviews and watching the video on it and not wanting to hand the process over to an expensive solicitor, I decided to take a chance and pay the money and try this service out.

As a result, I would highly recommend it to anyone. It was very easy to use - the way the questions were presented to you and the layout of the screens was easy on the eye. There were short videos at each section to guide you through. If you ever need to ask a question you can book a call or send a message.

We needed help on one issue and sent a message late at night. It was answered by 7am the next morning. Very impressive response.

Depending on the way you answer certain questions it will trigger certain sections and you can't proceed until you have completed that section meaning all the questions are answered in the right order. Progress can be saved at any point in case you need to go and find out more information on something.

We had IHT to pay and also had two of the three executers resigning their roles and the process dealt with it all. You get all the forms you need generated as PDF's which you then print and send. The process is saved until you have an IHT number. Two weeks later we got the number, put this into the next section and were then able to proceed (it won't let you continue without the number).

At the end, the process generates all the final forms you need for probate - then all you need to do is print them off (check them) and send them.

We had probate complete, including IHT paid, within 5 to 6 weeks of starting the process. We believe it was so fast partly due to the professional looking printed forms (no handwriting to cause any issues for HMRC!) and has likely saved us a lot of money in solicitor fees...you don't need them with this!

I decided to use YouCanDoProbate (YCDP) after having approached a number of solicitor firms and getting quotes from them to deal with my partners estate.
I found their process and questions for each of the steps to be very intuitive and there was always good information available for each of those steps.
The one-off price for the service saved me a large amount of money, and, considering that the questions and information that were required I would have had to supply to the solicitors anyway, it was a no-brainer.
The outcome from my submission was that there were no queries raised or challenges made.

Less than 8 weeks from signing up to YCDP to the Grant of Probate arriving in the post! As others have said - no need to pay through the nose for a solicitor, the YCDP platform is far quicker and far cheaper than using a solicitor. All relevant IHT forms were generated with ease, printed and then sent via post with accompanying requested documents - this was acknowledged within 3 weeks - then the generated PA1P probate form was sent to HMCTS (again, with accompanying documents & cheque) - Grant of Probate received in the post less than 2 weeks later! Fantastic and saved me thousands. Very happy with the platform and service, relieved to have found this alternative as opposed to instructing an expensive solicitor.

The YouCanDoProbate system is very cost effective, comprehensive and relatively easy to use. Most of the steps through filling in the inheritance tax forms and the probate application are straightforward. Any queries can be raised and are quickly and professionally dealt with. So glad I chose this route as opposed to using a solicitor.

I am a qualified accountant (although not a tax specialist, so no IHT experience), but even had that not been the case I'm sure I would have found the software easy and intuitive to follow. Helpline queries were answered very quickly and helpfully (within 24 hours). Absolutely didn't need a solicitor. All 13 IHT forms were generated for me which I'd never have been able to do without help. I decided to apply for the probate certificate online to save time and just took the printout from the software and replicated it on the probate portal - again very easy.

Fantastic programme and support. I spoke to Adam a few times and he was extremely helpful. Applying for probate can be challenging despite having reasonable knowledge of the process. I did the probate for my late mother and once I had the codes from HMRC got the probate within 10 days. Best to do the probate process online rather than sending the paper forms. All you have to submit to the probate office is the original will. I would recommend this company highly as all the solicitors would do is to supply them with the relevant paperwork and charge a large sum for doing what I did in 2 hours.

I knew no IHT was due but with my mother’s nil residential band bit it meant I had to fill in IHT400, then it became various other IHT forms and I lost the will to live, as many of the questions aren’t in simple English. I had quotes from 3-8k just to fill in forms (One bank account, one shared house & one bond). Found the youcandoprobate website - phoned them up & had chat - no sales pressure. After a few days and looking at the forms again & getting confused, I signed up. Took 3 hours to fill in forms, got slightly lost at one point & requested a call back. Lovely chap found the problem (my input numbers in wrong box) corrected them and then stayed on phone while it re-calculated to make sense. Printed all forms off and have just received my code from HMRC. £495 well spent and peace of mind that all forms were correct. One thinks “ IHT I can manage that”, then IHT435 & 436 and then another one with pensions etc etc. I think I ended up sending about 6 different IHT forms in and I know if I had ploughed on myself I would not have sent all the correct forms in.

The system was very user friendly, and easy to use. The case was not straight forward and when needed, the telephone support was superb. Will definitely use again. Highly recommended.

My wife and I are sensible, educated and technical people but the probate system via the HMRC/Gov websites just left us confused. We searched for help and YouCanDoProbate appeared on a search.

This is a fabulous piece of software and wonderful support. I have never had to go through the process before and the software made it simple and manageable. When I had a question, they were very very quick to respond and gave me all the time I needed and super advice which saved me time and money. Fabulous company, I highly recommend.

After revisiting the IHT400 form several times and googling some of the terms used, stumbled upon You can do Probate. I was a little sceptical about signing up as it was£499 versus a minimum of £2k for a solicitor. The site breaks everything down into manageable sections. provides plain English guidance and videos to help you complete the form. it turns out I did not have to use the IHT400 as I had an excepted estate. once everything is completed, click print form, signed and sent off. I had probate granted after 7 working days and the certificate after 9. I cannot recommend the service enough
