A deeply disappointing experience from start to finish.

Despite charging significantly more than other firms I considered, the level of service, communication, and attention to detail was far below expectations. I chose this firm because I was working to tight timelines and hoped that paying a premium would ensure a smoother, less stressful experience for my first property purchase. The onboarding process was promising - efficient and seemingly well-organized - which initially reassured me.

However, it quickly became apparent that the firm was overstretched. My original solicitor left without any notice, and I only found out after repeatedly trying to contact them for over a week. This lack of communication caused considerable delays, as the new solicitor had to get up to speed from scratch. To make matters worse, my file was mixed up with another client’s, compounding the delays and adding further confusion.

Throughout the process, I felt anxious and unsupported. While the firm did acknowledge my formal complaint, I saw little tangible improvement in service. In contrast, friends using other firms during the same period had far better experiences.

Communication was inconsistent at best -I often went over a week without any updates, leaving me completely in the dark. On top of that, there were multiple errors that I had to spot and flag myself, which left me questioning how many other mistakes may have gone unnoticed. Ultimately, we exchanged contracts months later than originally planned.

Given the cost and the promises made, I expected a far higher standard of service. I would not use this firm again or recommend them to others.

We recently used Laurus for our property sale and purchase. Emma was amazing. Our chain was at serious risk of collapsing at the last minute and she bent over backwards to bang heads together and drive it over the line. We have now completed on our new home and moved in last week. We are so happy and would not hesitate to recommend Laurus to others.

I recently engaged the services of Farah Syed who came highly recommended by my estate agent.

I was reluctant to use another firm (having been using the same lawyer for over 12 years) but am very glad my estate agent made this recommendation.

Farah and Sarah were fantastic during my sale, they kept me updated on my transaction and were one step ahead of my buyer's solicitor at all times. It's like they had a crystal ball!

They spoke to me in plain English, helped me with any questions I had and kept me reassured.

Whilst I hope not to be needing any legal services in the near future, if I do, I will certainly be coming back to Farah and Sarah.

We recently completed on our house move where Kausiha Baskaran and Claire Morgan acted on both our sale and purchase. They were both extremely helpful and efficient, and dealt with everything quickly. Through no fault of theirs, the chain was at risk of collapse on a number of occasions and they worked very hard to keep it together. I'm really pleased that we picked Laurus for our conveyancing and would recommend them to others.

I recently worked on a long and complicated deal with Emma at Laurus Law and could not be more impressed with her knowledge, work ethic and ability to keep putting up with my never ending questions and phone calls. Emma was super professional throughout and I felt confident the entire time that the deal would complete despite the numerous changes we faced. I cannot recommend Emma and the team at Laurus Law highly enough.

Terrible service, their communication was terrible, their documents were filled with mistakes and they mislead us with their advice and misold agreements to us.

This is our first time buying a flat, so we opted for a higher legal fee of £3,600, expecting smooth, high-quality service. However, we’ve been deeply disappointed with Farieda and Angela’s handling of the process.

Ghosting
We signed the contract with Laurus on 13th September 2024, yet the purchase remains incomplete as of 13th March 2025, despite their claim of a two-month average processing time. Farieda and Angela’s lack of timely responses and failure to communicate delays have been the primary cause of this hold-up.

A two-year-old 1-star review by Mincong Zhang mirrors our experience. Farieda hasn’t replied to our emails for over a week, and we initially assumed the delay was due to the seller’s solicitor. However, after contacting the owner, we discovered the issue lies entirely with Farieda and Angela.

No Responsibility
On 24th February 2025, Farieda promised to send the title report by the end of the week but only delivered it on 5th March. A simple heads-up about the delay would have sufficed. When we followed up, she insisted she was still working on it, only to call us after we escalated the issue to CEO James. Her unprofessional behavior felt like dealing with a child who needed parental intervention.

After finally receiving the title report, Farieda assured us she would request funds from the lender on 10th March for an exchange on 14th March. Despite signing and returning the report on 10th March, we’ve heard nothing since. Multiple emails and calls have gone unanswered, leaving us in a precarious situation as our lease ends on 14th March. Thankfully, we booked a hotel and storage in advance, but the unnecessary costs and stress could have been avoided.

Potential False Reviews
Recent positive reviews for Farieda and Angela seem suspicious, especially since Angela’s email was full and undeliverable on 28th February 2025. It’s hard to believe a solicitor can function without receiving emails, leading us to suspect fake reviews.

Given our identical experience to Mincong Zhang’s and our status as minorities, we also suspect racial discrimination. Below is a timeline of events. If there’s no update from us, avoid Laurus—you might be the next victim.

Timeline (Condensed):
13/09/2024: Contract signed

15/11/2024: Mortgage deed signed

25/11/2024: Followed up on surveyor advice; Farieda ignored the question, citing waiting for the pre-sale pack.

02/01/2025: Confirmed pre-sale pack received; Farieda promised to work on it.

05/01/2025: Repeated surveyor question; no response.

03/02/2025: Suspected emails went to junk; Farieda confirmed they didn’t but took weeks to respond.

13/02/2025: Farieda claimed title not staircased to 100%, despite the owner sending the file on 07/02/2025.

21/02/2025: Complained to CEO James Hollingsworth.

24/02/2025: Farieda promised title report by week’s end and exchange by 14/03/2025; missed both deadlines.

05/03/2025: Farieda finally sent the title report and promised fund request by 10/03/2025.

10/03/2025: Signed and returned the report; no updates since.

12/03/2025: Called twice; no response.

While writing this, Farieda emailed claiming the exchange won’t happen due to unanswered questions from the seller’s solicitor. However, the owner confirmed their solicitor responded days ago. This miscommunication or negligence has left us scrambling, and we’re left wondering if we’d have been left in the dark entirely had we not persistently followed up.

The CEO, James, called us the day after this review was posted, acknowledging communication issues and outlining the next steps. He mentioned Angela was on leave, which may explain her full inbox. Regarding our earlier claims about fake reviews and dishonesty, we want to clarify that these were based on our own judgments and hypotheses, not confirmed facts.

Jame and Farieda helped me completed the purchase by 28/03. I am satisfy with the qualify of the work. Just the communication and transparency need to be improved.

We chose to go with Stanley at Laurus out of a selection of recommendations because right from the start he made an effort to get in contact and he was the most personal out of the selection.

Stanley was then contactable throughout the process. He always replied to emails and picked up the phone. I work with people who have had horror stories of solicitors going silent for weeks so we really valued this.

As this was our first home purchase we had lots of questions. Stanley was always happy to answer them and did so with great detail without throwing much jargon at us.

Our purchase was also more complicated than we’d hoped at first. Stanley did an excellent job of managing this and getting us over the line.

We would recommend Stanley to anyone and would likely go back to him again for future purchases.

Farieda and Angela were fantastic, I felt very secure with them helping me. They were communicative, clear, informative and I felt in safe hands dealing with my first purchase.

We recently worked with Laurus for a property purchase in London, with Kausiha and Annabelle managing our case. Their responsiveness and professionalism were much appreciated throughout the process. They provided clear breakdowns of relevant fees and disbursements upfront and were thorough in their searches, document reviews, and communications with the seller's solicitor. Kausiha also successfully negotiated a fairer agreement for us on a specific aspect of the transaction. Overall, very pleased with their service.

Almost everyone I speak to says that their solicitors when moving have been awful. This couldn’t be further from the truth with Laurus. Exceptionally professional, thorough, and patient. Can’t recommend highly enough!
