Excess cover insurance is great idea
Cover for car hire direct is so ridiculously expensive. Swinton offer a very agreeable solution.

Avoid!
We have been with Insurance4car hire for many years. Several years ago we had to make a small claim and it was an easy process and we were refunded the excess we had paid the car hire company.
However, after returning from holiday three days ago, I have been trying to submit a claim- online- which is the only way to do so, and each time I am either timed out ( even answering ‘do you need more time?’ and pressing the ‘yes’ button didn’t work).
Apart with running out of time, I have not been able to submit the online form, as several times when pressing ‘proceed’, I am sent back to the log in page and have to start again.
This is the third day I am attempting to submit a claim, but IT IS IMPOSSIBLE.
I decided to look at reviews and realise I am not the only one having problems.
This product no longer gives peace of mind and I will be looking for an alternative policy to cover car hire abroad. I would advise strongly against using them. I really do wonder if it’s a blatant scam.

Poor confirmation and contact ability
It is 24 hours since I bought my policy and I have still not received a confirmation e-mail regarding my policy purchase. I tried to use the LiveChat service and it did not work as no-one got in touch with me for over 2 hours. I tried to find a telephone number and there was nothing for insurance 4 carhire. I got through to a Swinton number and they could not give me a number to get through and said it is only an online service - that's helpful!

Excellent product and excellent value compared with foreign car-rental firms' equivalent policies. Much more reliable to deal with a UK-based insurance company than a foreign one in the sad event that you might need to make a claim. The website is easy to use and its algoriths guide you immediately and straightforwardly to the product that is most appropriate for your needs. I highly recommend this!!

Diabolically difficult to contact, very easy to buy a policy
Very easy to buy a policy, diabolically difficult to contact
I bought a policy in seconds then noticed a condition which caused serious confusion. I tried to contact Swinton for clarification. The one phone number I had told me to go to live chat ... but the live chat button is barely noticeable.
This is a very aggravating and poor form of customer service - "we'll take your money but don't want to talk to you to explain what could be a seriously problematic condition of insurance".
This is a policy exclusion:
**This Policy provides You with the ability to claim back up to the amount of any Excess Car Rental Companies
impose following Damage to a Rental Vehicle. In order for this insurance to function, You must ensure You have
accepted the Car Rental Company’s insurance (often referred to as Collision Damage Waiver, **
Apparently the cover does NOT cover CDW and SLI unless to upgrade and that costs the same again, so double the cost
Eventually got sorted out after two very long live chats
