Below is the email I have sent to complain to David Clulow. Please read and judge for yourself if this is the kind of service you would expect from somewhere dispensing your optical prescriptions:

Good morning,

I am writing to formally complain regarding my order 1000979, placed on 16th July 2026 for 1 x pair of prescription sunglasses charged at £363.20.

The following day, the order was, and still is, showing as CANCELLED on my online account.

On 22nd July 2026, I emailed you to enquire what had happened. You responded asking for me to send a screenshot which I did immediately, but you never responded.

On Monday 27th July 2026, I called you at 10:34 hours. You told me over the phone that the order was still 'processing'. When I asked if this meant the prescription was in fact being made, you were unable to tell me and said you would send me an email confirmation. You never did.

On Thursday 30th July 2026, I called you at 17:23 hours to enquire about the same issue that is still ongoing. You again stated the order was still 'processing' but when asked, you were never able to confirm if that meant my prescription was actually being made. Once again, you advised you would email me with a confirmation, you never did.

At the time of placing my order, the estimated delivery date was 27th July 2026. As of right now, 2nd August 2026, I have not had any response to confirm my order is still valid, I have not received the order itself and I have not received any tracking information. Despite all this, you still have my £363.20 which is a premium price to pay for abysmal customer service.

My experience of your customer service to date has been nothing short of appalling.

If I do not receive an adequate response from yourselves to resolve this issue within 5 working days as per your website (Friday 7th August 2026) then I shall refer this matter to the Optical Consumer Complaints Service.

I look forward to your response.

The service at the Tunbridge Wells store is excellent and would highly recommend it to others. I no longer live in the UK but whenever I visit I book an eye test because the customer service is always so good.

An average customer service. When I arrived for my eye appointment, the rep read out other customer details, and breached data protection. The optician was friendly and professional and gave me good advice when I was going through my glasses, the representative was friendly and patient as I tried different glasses. However, when we were going through the calculations, he miscalculated and gave me an incorrect figure. Then the calculations were done correctly. When I left the store, I found out that they had spelt my name incorrectly and that the glasses ordered was also incorrect and had to call twice to get this amended. Paying a premium for the glasses and the style service, I was somewhat disappointed with the service and hope that they improve.

As a seasoned glasses wearer with complex lenses I have experience with most of the main opticians out there and none come close to David Clulow. Quality, price and customer service are second to none.

Fantastic customer service from Abby who was able to find me exactly what I was looking for. With the added bonus of offering me a considerable discount over what I expected to pay. The eye test I had was very reassuringly thorough and very professional.

I really enjoyed being at David Clulow in Brighton again because the guy checked my eyes so well. Luckily I didn't need to change my contake lenses. I would recomend that area. Also all the staff are so friendly, thank you.

This was the first time I had attended David Clulow Cambridge for an eye test and I was very impressed. The optometrist was professional and thorough and fully explained her findings to me. I would have no hesitation in visiting this branch again and recommending it.

Excellent service, from ease of booking an appointment to choosing the right glasses. Staff are clearly well trained both technically and in customer service.
