We canceled one of the tickets in your group prior to the tour. However, City Wonders canceled the wrong ticket so someone from our group wasn't let into the Colosseum. Some lazy person in the offic screwed up and we paid for it. Unacceptable.

⭐⭐⭐ 3/5 — Good value, but some important issues

We did the City Wonders Pompeii, Amalfi & Sorrento tour from Rome on 31 August 2026. Overall, the experience was enjoyable and the tour offered good value for money, but there were several issues that prevented me from giving it a higher rating.

The biggest disappointment was the last-minute change to our tour. City Wonders changed our tour time only two days before the scheduled date and, when we were not happy with the change, the alternative was essentially to cancel the tour. This was very disappointing, particularly for international travellers.

When you are travelling from abroad, you may already have spent a significant amount of money on flights, hotels and other arrangements around your planned itinerary. You cannot necessarily rearrange everything with just two days’ notice. It felt as though we were being treated like local customers who could simply change their plans at short notice. I understand that unforeseen circumstances can happen, but the way this was handled could have been much better.

What I liked

The bus journey from Rome is long, but the coach was very comfortable. It was a modern, air-conditioned bus, the journey was smooth, and the free Wi-Fi was excellent.

Our guide was good and made the long journey more enjoyable. Considering what is included, I think this tour is good value for money, especially if you want to visit several places in one day without organising everything yourself.

If you are staying in Rome for only a short time, however, I would seriously consider taking a high-speed train from Rome to Naples and joining a guided tour from Naples. This could save you a huge amount of travelling time and give you more time at the destinations.

Things that disappointed me

The tour was advertised as Pompeii, Amalfi & Sorrento, but we were not actually taken to Amalfi. I found this misleading and think City Wonders should make the itinerary much clearer when advertising the tour.

Also, I would not recommend visiting these places in the peak summer months if you come from a colder country. We experienced temperatures of around 38–40°C, which made walking around Pompeii extremely tiring. The heat definitely affected our enjoyment of the day.

The lemon factory stop was another area where I would advise caution. We bought some lemon products there and later found the same or very similar products in local shops for considerably less money.

If you don’t speak Italian, also be very careful about the meeting points and times. The bus will not wait if you are late, and English is not widely spoken in some of the areas we visited. Getting directions back to the meeting point may therefore be difficult.

Final rating: ⭐⭐⭐ 3/5

I enjoyed the trip and the comfortable coach, good guide and overall value were definite positives. However, the last-minute change to our booking, the Amalfi advertising issue and the challenges of the itinerary in extreme summer heat significantly affected the experience.

I would still consider this tour if you want to see Pompeii and Sorrento in a single day, but read the itinerary carefully before booking and be prepared for a very long day.

I hope this review helps other travellers make an informed decision.

Paula was AMAZING!!! And bellissima! I learned so much on this tour and seeing the underground catacombs was mind blowing. Emilio was also a hoot and so funny! And the Buchau the bus driver was great. Overall a wonderful experience!

I booked the famous Milan to Swiss Alps train trip as a couple, and it turned out to be one of the worst tour experiences we have ever had the arranged bus from Milan to alps from city wonders will do negative wonders for your trip.
Despite booking together, we were completely separated because larger groups and families of 3 or 4 took over all the window seats. When we politely requested to sit together, our tour coordinator (Nijr) offered zero assistance. Every time we brought it up, her only response was, "Sorry, I can't do anything."
At our next stop, we attempted to find seats together again, but the other groups aggressively claimed the window seats, leaving us split up once more. The guide completely failed to manage group seating or step in. On top of being separated, the entire train ride was chaotic—passengers were constantly shouting across the carriage to talk to their friends in other rows.
For a scenic train ride that relies heavily on organization and viewing experience, the lack of coordination and customer care was unacceptable. I would strongly advise couples and travelers to avoid this operator if you expect fair seating and basic professionalism for the bus arranged by City wonders from Milan to Alps. There are other operators who assign pre arranged seats based on the bookings.

We did the boat tour in Venice. Rachel the guide was absolutely fantastic, really made the trip.

Good value and a good trip.

The tour was interesting but it was made extra special by our guide Emelliano.
He is very knowledgeable and entertaining.
He made it a great experience.

Watching the Changing of the Guards tour was so well organized and we got to see the guards from several different locations. Natalie was an excellent tour guide!!

Anais was superb. She made the day very memorable and taught us so much about history and art.

Iman was one of the most amazing tour guides I have ever experienced. He was without a doubt, one of the most intelligent and kind man we have ever met in our travels! We were overwhelmed by not only his knowledge, but is amazing sensitivity. I was brought to tears three times during our tour as he describe things in such an emotional manner. He was such a breath of fresh air, and I honestly don’t know how we were so blessed to get in his group. Thank you, Iman, we would consider a privilege to come across you again!

Great guide, but shared bus shiuldy imply disccount

Title: We had to pay twice after arriving 4–5 minutes late

We purchased four tickets through Tiqets for a Park Güell tour operated by City Wonders, at a total cost of €113.

We arrived at the meeting point approximately four or five minutes late, and the group had already departed. We were not offered the option of joining the next available group or visiting later that same day. The only option offered was to pay an additional €25 per person — €100 in total — and return the following day.

This was not a practical alternative for us, as we had to leave early the next morning to travel to another destination. Moreover, the €100 rescheduling fee was more expensive than purchasing new tickets. We ultimately bought four new tickets directly at the entrance for a total of €67 and entered immediately.

We contacted both Tiqets, through whom we purchased the tickets, and City Wonders, the tour operator. We explained the situation in detail and requested a full or at least partial refund, but both companies refused.

We do not dispute that we arrived a few minutes late. Our negative rating reflects how the situation was handled. In our view, a reasonable alternative would have been to place us in the next available group or allow us to visit later that same day—not to charge €100 for the following day when new tickets cost only €67.

We are sharing this documented personal experience so that future visitors are informed about what may happen even in the event of a short delay. We strongly recommend arriving at the meeting point well in advance.

Vatican was amazing. So much to see and wonder at. Giuseppe our guide was full of information and knowledge and made the tour 10/10.
Only suggestion- advise people to meet at ‘City Wonders’ flags. Thank you so much.

Alain was very interactive and gave us plenty of interesting facts about the Capuchin monks the crypt and the catacombs. Along our way to the catacombs he chatted to us about the history of Rome and the monuments

Angie did a great job to take us to the best spots! She speaks an English that's easy to understand as french tourists, and you can't lose her from your sight, due to her amazing flag! 😁

We had a great guide, Annette. Very knowledgeable about Michaelangelo. Well worth getting a guide as you learn so much more about his life. Tour pick up point instructions were very clear and hassle free.

Citywonders tour

UPDATE: While their responses continue to be completely tone deaf, I have learned from other people on the tour that they were given larger rebates/discounts Citywonders tour.

Just a terrible terrible organization. Really regret giving them our money but even worse, our precious vacation time.

1. Arrived for (one and only) rest break/chance to get breakfast – the facility had technical problems and could not take creditcards – nor did their ATM work. This left most of us without the ability to purchase food. When we asked the tour leader if we could make another stop somewhere to make purchases, she said there was no where else and we didn’t have time… until…
2. The AC went out on the bus – and became unbearable to the point where we stopped at a supermarket and the driver tried to make repairs and we had to prop open the sunroofs with baguettes to get any air flow. The tour guide determined that we should continue on and that a replacement bus would meet us ASAP.
3. We arrived (late) at our first stop – hot and sweaty. There was no replacement bus. Also, an elderly couple who should not have been permitted to join based on physical limitations, was left high and dry by the tour guide and the bus driver. The elderly wife struggled greatly to get her husband’s walker out and they were way behind the group. No accommodation was made for them by the tour guide or the bus driver so a group of us cut our own touring short to assist these people in great need.
4. No replacement bus arrived so off we go in the sauna bus to our next destination, baguettes assisting with minimal air flow
5. Lunch – extremely crowded and hot. Food, mediocre at best. Elderly couple assisted only by fellow tourists. No replacement bus.
6. Next stop – no replacement bus. Elderly couple still struggling and this time, both fell – hard. It took numerous people to get them up again and treat their scrapes. Very scary. Minimal assistance from tour guide or bus driver.
7. It was then suggested by the tour guide, since we were all extremely uncomfortable, that we SKIP Omaha Beach and head back to Paris. This was met with immediate and vehement push back from the group. We headed to Omaha Beach where we were told we only had a few minutes due to running so late. And… we did get a replacement bus!
8. Our tour guide, quite graciously after, frankly a day of hell, wrote to her manager asking for a full refund for participants. Instead, we were insulted with an offer for a free local Paris tour at a specific time the next day. At no point was their any consideration for:
a. Many/most people on the tour either were leaving Paris the next day or already had other touring plans
b. While money is important, there was no apology for wasting a complete day of very precious vacation time
c. This particular trip to the beaches of Normandy should have been a solemn and reflective trip, but instead, was a trip to be endured.
d. The temerity to think that we would want to risk/waste any more vacation time with an organization that was so poorly organized and even more deficient on responsiveness was terrible.
