BP Pulse - unreliable and dreadful service
I’ve now used BP pulse charge points a number of times and whilst most occasions have worked well I have recently had an occasion where the charging session failed on my account and I was forced to use the pay as you go option.
However, this was also problematic and has resulted in 3 x £15 charges being applied to my card despite the charge disconnecting after only an hour so less than £15 in electricity charge.
I am now trying to resolve this with BP pulse and it is this which leads me to give BP pulse the rating of dreadful. I have now made numerous calls each on hold for over 30mins and on one answered so far. On that call I was assured the charging error would be corrected but this has not been done. I am one more on hold 45mins and counting.
You can make your own decision on whether to use these charging stations but I won’t use them further if I can avoid it!

Poor service 4 weeks wait to install a isolation switch
Western power has to be there when they fit the switch
why not let western power fit the switch
It that easy
Then another wait to fit charger point
And no I don’t won’t 3 months of BP plus network
As no BP near me
There are trying to plug a subscription
To us
No way
Pathetic service
Pathetic service. Rating should be zero. Charger unit charges at its own will, outsides of my cheaper overnight tariff
Appalling!!
Appalling!!! (6 months in and still not functioning) Avoid any BP Chargemaster at all costs. The charge relies on their servers to work remotely with the home charger and ther App. Quite simply the home charger unit charges when it likes, the App displays the wrong status and BP keep fobbing me off. I currently have my local MP, OZEV, The Energy Minister and the CEO of BP involved..... and I'm still paying 3 x as much in electricity at home, because the crappy unit charges our EV out of tariff!!
The customer service is absolutely…
The customer service is absolutely appalling. No one replies to any emails and if you call you are told they will look into and call back but this doesn’t happen. I can honestly say they are the worst company I have ever used from booking the installation to Serbia post installation. I wish I’d gone with another charge point company.
Worst charging network
Not sure why am I even giving them 1 star. Absolutely appalling network. Most of the times the servers are down and the telephony staff only apologise for service unavailability.
No straightforward way to cancel -by design??
You have the correct name just the word order incorrect
Should be Master at Charging!
I no longer requiring the services of BP Polar Plus and wish to stop, repeat stop, the standing order.
After 38 minutes of "MUSIC" on the phone so called help line I gave up.
This company is good at getting one to commit and good at allowing one to cancel.
Beware everyone!!!
Car charger better than Chargermaster
Having had a unit fitted for over 5 years and using it for our second PHEV, recently found by using the charger that came with the car we are getting better range indicated after a charge than with the Chargermaster unit. Tried contacting them after a search for a phone number managed to speak with someone then again a few days later after no call back! All i get is applications and prices for an new unit. Different price most times. Basically no help at all. Considering the way things have gone with now use the charger that came with the car on ECO7 overnight. This company only appears to be interested in the extortionate installation fee.
This company is an absolute disgrace
This company is an absolute disgrace. I am disabled and bought a hybrid vehicle because I use my car locally and it seemed like a good idea. Especially when Mercedes said they would supply a fast charger for me too to be supplied by BP Chargemaster. They have cancelled my installation twice now without even informing me. I had to call both times when the engineer failed to show. I now don’t know when I will get my fast charger as I have had no further contact with them even though I have called and emailed them numerous times all without reply. For a multi National like BP the service and customer service is appallingly poor.
Sorry to be singing from the same song…
Sorry to be singing from the same song sheet but I would also rate a zero if possible... the customer service and response to calls is unacceptable.
I lost my key card, so ordered another online 22nd June, after 5 days it had not been delivered, so I called again to be told there is no record of my card request.. the operator apologised and made a request on my behalf.
Another 5 days passed, so I called again... I am this time told that my request of the 22nd is on the system but failed due a Tech Fault. In addition, he explained that the operator that offered to make the request by phone last could not have, as operators cannot... :(
Bp chargemaster
I am paying £8 for access to a huge network. There are three posts in WGC. 2 ARE BROKEN AND HAVE BEEN FOR MONTHS. 1 HAS DECIDED IT DOES NOT LIKE MY CARD. Sat here writing this 20mins still no answer from customer service. Complete waist of money and a crappy service. Sort it out BP
Shocking
Shocking, took two months to fit my chargepoint. Its now stopped working and is likely a fire hazard. Ive contacted there customer services for the homecharger now over 5 times, everytime someone says they will call me back and that my case has been raised to the highest level... I never receive calls back. Ive had to get in contact with trading standards now to help.
If I could give it zero I would
If I could give it zero I would. I’m having a right battle with Chargemaster, that’s the BP Pulse method of taking your money. I used a Pulse charger at the Newport Holiday Inn Express 4 weeks ago. I have a BP account with £10 in it but my app wouldn’t connect with the charger so I had to use the “guest“ option that means using a contactless bank card. My first attempt worked until I connected the lead to my Leaf then it failed. The second attempt went ok and I had a charge costing about £4. 2 days later I saw Chargemaster had taken 2 amounts of £20 from my bank. I emailed them to ask what was going on and they replied that a “covering charge” was taken when using a card. After a few days the actual amount would be taken from this and the remainder would be refunded. They said they would refund me quickly. This still has not happened. Really dreadful behaviour that in my opinion is either grossly incompetent or fraudulent.
A bunch of imbeciles working for an equally pathetic company
If I could, I would rate them a zero because that is how pathetic this company is. I raised a complaint about my homecharger not working and that the switch is broken, on 11th June and as of today 29th June nobody from the company has had the decency to acknowledge my complaint and arrange for an engineer. Infact one of the agents tried to mansplain to me that if he is trying to note down everything correctly because if there is no issue I will be charged. I mean SERIOUSLY!!! Do you think I cannot differentiate between a broken switch and one that works. The call has been escalated to the team leaders and the technical department but zilch. Not a single call back. I have called them over 6 times and am completely frustrated with their ‘I give a damn’ attitude.
After asking for endless information…
After asking for endless information this company have now stopped responding. The service is non existent. They don’t respond to emails and they are making something simple overly complicated and frustrating
Really poor customer service and no…
Really poor customer service and no help what’s so ever, I used a BP charge master to try and charge my car in Letchworth. They took 6x£15 and 2x1.50, I’ve been trying to get my money back for some time now.
Customer service keep saying the payment is pending but my bank have confirmed the payments have been requested and settled. As BP have been so useless my bank is now supporting to raise a dispute.
Never experienced such poor service from a company.
Previous experience with Chargemaster and new BPPulse ownership
I previously had a Chargemaster unit installed in 2017 as part of a Mitsubishi PHEV leasing deal using the OLEV grant. The engineers were excellent and the installation went smoothly. I had the Type 2 untethered socket installed which worked very well with a long cable I sourced from evconnectors. I never had any problems until December 2020 when the warranty ran out. In 2021 I decided to renew the SIM card service in order to look at the charging data online, this took ages and endless emails to them to get reactivated for the princely sum of £50. The lease on the Outlander expired this summer so we decided to get a new Mitsubishi PHEV and the MG ZS EV elite as the garage offered us a fantastic lease deal. We are experienced electric car users and smugly thought we just needed an additional Type 2 to Type 2 cable for the MG. All went well for five weeks and then the MG cable locked to the Chargemaster. I rang up and emailed BPPulse and was given the endless runaround for several days: I even had previous email addresses from them earlier in the yearand emailed them with read receipts (several bounced or were unread). Nothing happened apart from a tedious conversation with a CSR who terminated a call with me on GDPR grounds: a previous well established customer of three years standing!!! My electrician came round and eventually released the cable which had fused to one of the pins on the Chargemaster: the unit and cable were writeoffs. Having read all the reviews on here I decided to cut my losses and managed to get a new Zappi and controller off the web. As the house is prewired for EV charging it is less complicated to put in a replacement unit, although the total bill will be circa £1000 for unit, web controller and labour. This is happening within days. I think the car companies will be non too pleased with BP Pulse's customer service. In a previous life prior to retirement I was involved with the telecoms industry and the litany of disasters essayed here gave me pause for thought. I think BPPulse are simply not up to scratch and the Chargemaster units will probably go the way of Blackberry in another industry. Its surprising the BP management don't get a grip on the basics of customer service and fulfillment. The EV chargers they are using are also very dated. I am glad I have switched vendor and installer.
Don't buy this charger
Don't buy this charger or if you get it 'free' as part of your car purchase don't accept it an get a reduced price on your car as we all know its not free but part of the car price. First installation they left it locked and the keys were not correct for the charger so i couldn't use, a replacement charger was fitted, since then the app is a complete waste of time, doesn't work so can't schedule an overnight cheap rate charge. No response from Customer services, no help, people have been complaining for ages and yet no update to the App for a year. Paid a premium price for my Mercedes and i get stuck with the worst, cheapest charger as it was free with the car!!!! wofull service by BP and shame on Mercedes for partnering with them. looks like i am going to have to spend £800 to get this removed and a decent one installed.
Appalling customer service
Appalling customer service, after months of trying to get my home charger installed I am now six months later waiting for these guys to reimburse me for money spent to enable the charger to be fitted. The charger never works on schedules set via the app so I cannot get the full benefit of my night time tariff rate. I call them every month but the results remain the same they keep my money. How on earth can the main car manufacturers continue to use these guys surely the poor service they offer will begin to reflect on the likes of Mercedes, Ford, Kia etc. How can be BP believe strategically that this business will replace their petrol and diesel fuel business, if you called at a service station/garage and got this dreadful level of customer service you would not go there again.
Absolutely appalling customer service
Absolutely appalling customer service - long phone wait times, multiple promises to phone back with updates and not one call received requiring more time on hold to chase matters up. Sub contractor equally hopeless - unit failed after two days and the installer refuses to come back and tells me that I need to sort it out with UK Power Networks. This organization takes your money and accepts no responsibility to provide a service.
