Just received my order, Dee Dee Purple Dress and petticoat. The order process was good, the parcel arrived in good time, and when expected. Unfortunately the dress and petticoat were literally shoved in indivuidual small plastic bags, and were extremely crumpled and on close inspection one of the seams were not finished off and was open and frayed. In addition the material looks cheap. This was not the quality that I expected as the dress and petticoat was not cheap. Having now read the reviews I will not be going through the refund process, neither will i be wearing it, very disappointed British Retro, your quality control is severely lacking.

The only reason I am putting this review here is because British Retro have not put up my 1 star review on their own website! I bought the green Tallulah dress but when it arrived I was very unhappy with the quality of the material and the finish - the button holes were barely finished off. But their returns procedure is so complicated I kept the dress and will either donate to charity or maybe wear to a lunch (I had bought it for a wedding but I couldn’t risk the buttons opening or the seams bursting at a wedding!) Will never buy from here again - be warned if an item says “no reviews yet” it probably means no good reviews yet as they do not post negative reviews.

Add on to my review above after getting a response here from British Retro: I did contact you & left a 1 star review based on my honest experience of your dress. You did not reach out to me regarding my review and did not put my review on your website. I certainly do not trust the reviews on your own website as I now know you don’t post the bad reviews!

Dresses were beautiful! I have not found anything like it anywhere and the customer service were superb! I am a customer for life!

I've just ordered my second dress from British Retro.
I was so pleased with the first order Rhonda's Revenge in grape satin, I ordered the UK14 based on their size chart, and it fits perfectly. I ordered it for a special event, it arrived earlier than expected as I live in Perth Australia, I got so many compliments.
I've just ordered the Way Out West Royal Stewart tartan swing dress and can't wait to get it. Belle was more than helpful.

The website reviews offer several inaccurate portrayals of the dresses. The promised stretch in the material turned out to be a mere exaggeration – there was none so sizing is wildly inaccurate. While acknowledging the understandable policy of customers covering return expenses, the company’s deduction process feels more like an opportunistic maneuver than a fair practice.

Customer service, quick in email responses, attributes a prolonged 14-day refund period to their status as a small business dealing with budgetary constraints. There’s room for improvement by adopting a more customer-friendly and transparent approach, possibly paving the way for a better relationship with their clientele.

THERES ABSOLUTELY NO STRETCH IN THE FABRIC WHATSOEVER I MEAN, NONE, ZERO
Search their fake reviews on here before ordering from them, they clearly control what reviews they show online as they are all 5*
They have also not provided a full refund, so more lies from them. Such a shame as their dresses look great on website.
No wonder they struggling to grow and are stretched as a business if this is their general conduct.

I was very happy with my purchase, the skirt and the full circle dress are of good quality and well made, they fall beautifully on the body, not too thick and not too thin. The size measurements might not be a perfect match but things like this happen in this industry as we can see in the mass market stores too. Meaning that I am usually a L/12-14, and here I got the dress in size 16 which fits a little bit loose in the waist but I prefer it this way and work it out with the included belt instead of fitting too tight with a 14. I'm happy I discovered this local small business and I'll be coming again for sure!

Absolutely beautiful clothing! Ordered a number of different pieces from British Retro and all of them are breath taking. Couldn't recommend them enough! How they look on and how they make you feel is like nothing in my wardrobe! Cudtomer service is as wonderful as the clothes, thank you so much!

I purchased two dresses in two different orders from British Retro, the quality of both of them was excellent. There was a problem with the second order, which the customer service solved quickly and assisted me through the process step by step. At the end they offered me 20% off from the dress I bought to apologise for the inconvenient. I cannot recommend them enough.

I wore the Black dee dee crepe dress for my Wedding day. Such a beautiful heavy material which went perfect with a petticoat to give a real 1950s swing look.

I came across British Retro recently and immediately fell in love with the brand. The material is always of the best quality and the unique style makes their clothes look like a million dollars. I also love the wide range of products. You can always find something for every occasion. Delivery is very fast, generally no problems when ordering. Definitely recommend!

The dress came, the zip was extremely hard to work and also the item just wasn’t the right size even though I checked my measurements before ordering.

I was annoyed that I had to pay to return an item but completed the returns process and sent my return via Royal Mail signed for.

Now the company are claiming to have not received it, despite it being sent on 18th September! Their returns process is so long that I no longer have the receipt with the tracking number on it.

I emailed customer service - their reaction is just ‘ we hope you manage to find the receipt’. So now I am £48 worse off with no dress. I will never use this company again because I cant afford to throw away nearly £50 each time I order a dress if I need to return it

I do not really know where to start! This company and their dresses are AMAZING. I have 3 in total now and they are so flattering. I really struggle with high street dresses due to my body shape ( hour glass ) however these dresses fit my shape perfectly and make me feel amazing. For those ladies who breastfeed as well these dresses ( front button / shoulder drop ) makes it super duper easy to feed our little ones too :) and they are SO comfy! Can't forget to mention that. Oh and their customer service is lovely, yes overall this little company is just brilliant and worth every penny! <3

Absolutely delighted with my experience with this company it was my first time buying a 1950s style dress, I'd never used this company before. I was unsure of what size to get as I've gained a little weight so emailed them, they promptly replied and advised me on the particular dress I was interested in ( The Dee Dee dress), I took the advice and ordered, the delivery was quick and and the dress was a great fit very flattering, the material is excellent quality and paired with a poofy petticoat the bounce and swing was amazing I felt a million dollars in it, I got so many compliments at a recent wedding (14 Oct 2023) was even told I looked like a movie star, I can't wait to wear this dress again and I'm now looking at their dresses for a tartan one for Christmas. Would highly recommend this company they are very professional yet down to earth.

I have got Dee Dee Ivory Satin Jacquard Full Circle Dress, I loved the dress and got it for my wedding day. The zip broke whilst I was walking down the aisle and I couldn't fix it. The customer service said the dress was too small for me, which it absolutely wasn't!!! The issue was the quality of the zip which is really bad and cheap, it ruined my day and the so-called "customer service" then had the temerity to insult me by calling me fat. I had a red petticoat which turned the dress a bit pink. The company is an absolute disgrace and should be ashamed. I've never experienced something like this, and aside from the product being being damaged they also offended me! Shame on you

I left a review on their website stating the same but it has not been approved yet, and it probably won’t. No surprise they all 5 stars. What a scam!

I cannot recommend British Retro enough. Firstly for the A* customer support when I had an issue with the couriers delivering my dress but secondly for the quality, design, fit and overall amazingness of my dress!

Fantastic quality! I bought three dresses, a skirt and a couple of berets. The fit on the dresses and skirt are absolutely spot on. The colours are true to the photos which isn't always the case when buying online. The communications with this company are really good and the delivery time is brilliant. Definitely going back for more.

Highly suspicious of all these 5 star reviews, and take heed of Trustpilots own comments re the number of fake reviews taken down.
Well, as an ACTUAL customer, my Phyllis’s linen trousers were cheaply made and started to come apart after only one wash. They were far too long, and impossible to shorten easily unlike their description.I left a review on their website stating the same….an honest review of MY purchases, and the quality of the garments, and surprise, surprise, it hasn’t been published! And won’t allow me to re enter my review 🤨
I now also find that my IP address is not recognised by their website so effectively been banned! 😘
What are you trying to hide British Retro?and shame on you for not having the guts to allow honest feedback from one of your REAL customers experiences !😠

Ordered a dress, a body shaper and a petticoat. My first order ever from this site. The customer service is amazing. You get the package with tracking. I live in Serbia and the packages here go missing all the time (customs steal them) but when there's tracking they can't. The package arrived and boy oh boy was I surprised! First of all they knew how to ship it so I can avoid paying customs fees and second, the item - all a perfect fit! I've never ordered anything online with a perfect fit! The colors are the same hue and exactly as vibrant as on the website. Good quality materials, stitching, no bad smell. The dress (full circle dress) is flowy like in the movies. I look and feel so romantic and beautiful wearing it. The only problem now is I want to wear it all the time, and I want more dresses and I will definitely be getting them! Highly recommend this website, it's not some Chinese knock off, it's the real deal.

I ordered a £75 'way out west' dress that on the website was marketed as 100% brushed cotton. When it arrived, I realised it was actually polyester according to both the label and the feel of the dress! After complaining and reminding the company of my rights under the CRA 2015, they did offer me a refund (I had to ask them *again* to send through the return label) and have since updated the description of to match the actual fabric composition.

The dress itself was undoubtedly beautiful, but £75 for a dress made from itchy plastic is not worth it, particularly for those like myself who have a skin sensitivity to synthetic materials. I'm nervous to buy any more dresses that may be marketed as 'brushed cotton' and I also have lost my trust in the marketing that these dresses are made in the UK. I'll be buying all of my British Retro pieces second-hand from now on, so I can ask sellers to check the material composition for me.

Edit: the company reached out to me after reading this review and sent me quite a threatening email - 'here is no benefit to us advertising the wrong fabric composition as you can see it would only create a lot of problems with complaints so this was obviously not intended. We have done the right thing and updated the description furthermore we have paid for the return postage and will issue you a full refund once we receive the item back so we would kindly appreciate if you could remove your review. Furthermore we find it very disconcerting that you have alleged our clothing is not made in the UK which is a completely untrue and very defamatory comment to our business. We pride ourselves in manufacturing in the UK and in an ethical way which we also pay a premium for, so this is a very damaging false statement and we would appreciate you removing this from your review if you do not wish to remove the full review.'

The fact they think I am indebted to them because they did the bare minimum (refunding me and giving me a free return, after I prompted them again) is ridiculous! I also did not make a 'damaging false statement' as my honest opinion ('I have lost my trust') is not presented as a statement of fact, and it certainly does reflect how I truthfully feel.

What do they think Trustpilot is for?

Edit 2: It has now been over 14 days since British Retro received my parcel and I still have not got a refund. They told me that it would get back to me between 7 and 14 days after they received it.
