This company is very quick to charge you multiple times, and reaching their customer service is even more frustrating. Once you get a hold of someone, they are unwilling to assist even when you point out the errors made. I ended contacting my bank and placing a dispute. Do not use Vitalchek, they have terrible service at best.

As soon as Vital Check got my credit card information they hit my card for an unexplained $11.75 before I even got my required information uploaded for processing. Then they added additional charges for shipping that I never approved. Lastly, when I tried to call to cancel my order, they let me “hold” for over an hour. This is a rip off. Beware! Get you documents somewhere else.

I had an extremely poor experience with VitalChek. I submitted all required notarized and embassy-certified documents, which were marked as “processed” in their system. Despite this, they rejected my Sworn Statement claiming the name was “not legible,” even though it was clearly printed, matched all documents, and was verified by a U.S. Embassy notary.

Their arbitrary rejection has caused unnecessary emotional stress and delays in obtaining my late father’s death certificate, which is urgently needed for legal matters. Customer service has been slow and unhelpful.

I would strongly advise others to be very cautious when using this service, especially for sensitive or time-critical documents. VitalChek must seriously improve their document verification process and customer support quality.

I placed an order on 2/24/25 for a death certificate for my grandfather who died in 1960, because I've been doing ancestry research. I don't live near Detroit, where he died, so I couldn't just go to the courthouse to request it in person. I even paid extra for 2 day shipping, bringing my total paid to $53.95-for a 65 year old death certificate that should just be available on ancestry.com due to its age. My confirmation email said the estimated delivery date was 4/28/25, but that I'd receive a second email notifying me of ship date and tracking. As of 5/6, I had not received any further emails. I called vitalchek, and the system says my order will be forwarded to the Detroit clerk within 24 hours. Sounds great, except that's the same thing it says every time I call. I tried calling the Detroit vital records dept on 5/6, since they're actually the entity who is supposed to find the document and send it to people. All I got there was a snippy woman named Terri who read me the same text that I have from my confirmation email from 2/24 as though I can't read that for myself, and then promised she'd forward my information to "the supervisor of the department" and that I should get a call back in the next 24 hours. She couldn't tell me what that "supervisor's" name was because she doesn't know who will call me back (what??). She also gave me a "better number" for vital chek. Better than what?? Because all that happens when I call that number is it tells me my order will be processed in 24 hours and then I sit on hold for an hour at a time trying to reach an actual person. I called Detroit clerk back today, 5/13, and got Terri again, who assured me she did forward my email last week but would do so again and "the supervisor" whose name she doesn't know will contact me. She also tells me they have nothing to do with vitalchek, which is ironic because vitalchek also says they have nothing to do with the agency that is supposed to fulfil the order. So both of these entities who are apparently not accountable to another human being on the planet are somehow not connected in any way, yet SOMEBODY out there got my $53.95 for doing nothing at all. So where is my document? I emailed the email provided in the confirmation email to contact vitalchek and asked for a refund, and surprise surprise, I have not received any kind of response. Currently on hold for 35 minutes and counting, and never have I actually gotten ahold of a person.
**UPDATE!!** As I'm still waiting on hold with these people, I decide to click the "Manage your order" button in my original confirmation email, and it tells me my order status is CANCELLED! What?? The phone system says my order has been processed, but this says it's cancelled? Why is it cancelled? Is this because I asked for a refund? If so, why didn't anyone email or call? And where is my money?? Because I have not received any refund.

This is a horrible company. I ordered my birth certiface four weeks ago, as I was attempting to get my real driver's license before the deadline . A month later it still has not arrived, and I missed the REAL ID deadline. I have emailed them five times with no response. I attempted to call them, and after an hour on hold I hung up. Their customer service is horrific. I could have obtained my birth certificate directly through the State , but I though for the extra money it would be worth getting it faster. What a mistake. NEVER USE THIS COMPANY !! I will report them to the State involved !!

I am beginning to think I got scammed by Vitalchek!!! They've got my $$$ and I have NO birth certificate. I can't move forward with pressing legal issues and I can not get ANY response from them. If this is their norm, STAY AWAY!!
BTW I am now waiting 54 minutes!! (On hold.)

Yet another company that has a vice grip on consumers. They know it, and don't care. There really isn't another alternative, so you're stuck dealing with them. Expect LONG holds on phone, mediocre service *at best* ( but probably worse ), and poor communication. I knew in advance that I'd have to do verification and send in scans of IDs and documents. The email says to "check the instructions in your oder confirmation." Of course, there are no instructions in the confirmation email. I've called 3 times this week, waiting more than 30 minutes each time. I just had to give up.

This place doesn't even deserve 1 star, but you have to give it 1 to register. Stay far away from this company, it is a bullshit company, and I agree it borders on "Scam". Go directly to your state vital statistics.

Placed an order for a death certificate. Went online to check status. Website directed me to call 866-203-2777. I spent 45:59 minutes on hold. My call was never answered. Emails were never answered. They took my $15.50 search fee and disappeared with it. Scam company.

Paid their service fee and expedited shipping. Got a noice that said it would take a month to ship. Vitalchek doesn’t respond to emails or calls for my order placed. I was satisfied for my first order. They get 100%, be it as it may, for my second order they get a ZERO. Weigh it out, that’s a 50% rating overall. That’s one star by way of grade point. My advice is to either answer the phone in less than a forty minute waiting period or respond to emails in the same day; the email issue is ongoing for several days now.

I ordered my birth certificate and I have not received it. When I try to call it just says you can't speak to a representative because of a system outage. It has been this way for 3 days. I also have emailed them with no response now my mom will miss her real id appointment and will not be able to use the flight I booked for her for mother's day.

Tried to get a birth certificate. It never arrived. I have been trying for 2 years now to get it! No one responds to requests, and still have not received the birth certificate! How can a Gov. agency use such a company that scams people out of money?

Trying to get a second, backup copy of my birth certificate. Uploaded required identification and paid the fee - then got an email that further action required, no details. I keep getting these emails, but no reply to mine in return. And called four times several days apart at different times of day, immediately put on hold and held for over an hour each time. I'll be canceling my order (via Amex), and filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau in the meantime.

Absolutely the worst company I have ever dealt with. I am on my 3rd month of trying to get a refund for an order they cancelled, then cashed my check and now at least 30 emails and multiple calls later (be prepared to wait 1 hour on hold each time even if you try and call at 11pm when you think no one will be calling) I still have nothing. It is the worst experience with a company I can think of and I have dealt with a lot. GO TO YOUR LOCAL state office and get a birth certificate. Best of luck to you.

My name is incomplete in my daughter’s certificate. Any company providing this service should check their own system and what the parent sent and compare with what the hospital sent. Contact parent if unsure. IT’S the most IMPORTANT DOCUMENT. They did not and instead of offering a correction for free kept trying to blame on the hospital. Information parent have no access or control if something get lost and doesn’t matter BECAUSE we have to type the information correct when submitting the birth certificate at vital check and I typed correctly as confirmed. YOU SHOULD PAY FOR CORRECTION WHEN ONE OF YOUR AGENTS DOES A SLOPPY JOB CHECKING IT.

Michigan.gov recommends vitals for a birth certificate.
January 20th I paid vitals 57.00 and filled out the form.
It is april 16th I never received my birth certificate or an email of why.
I spent an hour on hold with vitals. The company said they would forward the info and get back with me. I asked for a refund and I was told No.
I don't recommend this poorly run service.

Bahaha…”legal services” my ass! Just a bunch of low life’s on a money grab before Elon gets a hold of them! GIVE YOUR. MONEY TO A LOCAL CHARITY INSTEAD.

I've paid $100 twice now for a new York state BC and both times I got nothing and you cannot get a refund.

I submitted a request online for my kids birth certificates on April 4th. The company states it will take 1-2 business days to review the uploaded documents needed (Drivers License Front/Back) along with copy of VitalChek Order#. I received an email stating something wrong with my uploaded Docs. I went online to see what the problem was....Nothing. I then called the 866 Number listed and waited patiently for over 1½ hours (Nothing). I had to submit an email to see how to either process order or get a refund. HORRIBLE company & experience with ZERO customer service and no way to follow up on an order. If there were ZERO Stars, that may be too high of a rating.
