A Masterclass in Bureaucratic Obstruction
I have had a truly exhausting experience with TotalEnergies. Despite submitting accurate meter readings when cancelling my account, they vastly miscalculated the final bill. What followed was a repetitive, circular process designed to wear the customer down:
The Loop: After a phone consultation, I was forced to fill out a form, which triggered more emails, which then required me to submit further meter readings over an extended period.
The Refund Trap: Once they finally admitted the error and issued a credit, I discovered in the small print that credit is not automatically returned. I had to "apply" for my own money.
The Red Tape: An email to customer services wasn't enough; I was forced to complete another form. That submission then triggered a request for my bank details—provided for the third time—but specifically requested on "headed paper."
In an era of instant digitisation, this process is unnecessarily manual, boring, and lengthy. A cynic would conclude that this journey is purposefully designed to be so arduous that exiting customers simply give up on the money they are owed. Truly disappointing.
