Medical experience in Sri Lanka
The experience was great and Sri Lanka is a beautiful country to visit and explore. The Sri Lankan team was super kind and welcoming, very attentive and always with a smile. Also they organized lots of extra activities for us, such as kayaking, surfing or football matches with locals, which made it very fun. The installations are also quite fair and with a great location in a small village in front of the ocean. The food does get a bit repetitive in the accommodation, but there’s great restaurants in the closest town. The medical experience itself is good for a week since you get to see a whole different hospital setting and culture. However, it’s strictly observational and they only take you there for 2 hours a day, meaning you don’t get to see or do much. Therefore I would recommend only for first or second year medical students and only for 1-2 weeks, after that it gets very repetitive and not so interesting. The rest was great though and we met the nicest people.

Nursing Elective in Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam)
I did my nursing elective placement in Ho Chi Minh (Vietnam). Overall, I would say that it's been a good experience. We had a bit of a misunderstanding at the start because of the pick-up, as we mentioned that we would be arriving in the country late at night, but it wasn't until a couple of hours before that they told us that they wouldn't be able to pick us up at the airport because that was their resting time. They suggested staying that night at a hotel, but thankfully, they were understanding, and in the end they arranged a pickup for us!
The house is clean, and the dorms are considerably spacious. Does the job. At this time of the year, there were not a lot of volunteers, so that made a difference as well, because we ended up having a room with 3 bunk beds (for 6 people), just for us 3 and an ensuite bathroom. The house is equipped with AC, and there are fans if you want as well. It has a washing machine, which was very useful because we could do laundry at home without having to spend money outside.
We had Ms Cook, a lovely lady who prepared our lunch and dinner, Monday to Friday. She was very nice and always had a smile on her face. Food was delicious, and she always considered our options. It was very well organised and served on time. Lunch was at 11.30 am and dinner at 6 pm, which I did find a bit too early, but you just have to adjust, and it's fine. Beggars can't be choosers. And to be honest, our lunch break in placement was around 11-11.30 am, so it was perfect because by the time we got home, food was ready!
The only thing that I did find a bit frustrating was not having a microwave in the kitchen, because sometimes we would arrive late and miss dinner time, and we couldn't heat the food. Not only when we arrived late; sometimes you just want to heat food up, and it was annoying because, if it was possible, we would use a pan, or at that point, just eat the food cold. I also appreciate the fact that we could cook at home if we desired. There was also tea, coffee, bread, jam, honey, peanut butter and butter available for us for breakfast or a midnight snack or whatever really. There was a fridge where we could put our stuff, and water was available for us.
After the whole experience and seeing how cheap accommodation (hotels, hostels...) is, I do think that we paid a lot of money for what we ended up getting. I do appreciate that little things such as laundry, lunch & dinner were included. But at the end of the day, getting food and laundry in Vietnam is VERY cheap (coming from someone living in the UK), so it's not like we were saving lots of money either by paying the TMR fees. Also, transport wasn't included. To be fair, buses were free at that time, but that would take long if we wanted to be there on time. Getting Grabs bikes (uber) was a lot easier and faster, but we had to pay for it. It wasn't very expensive, but it all adds up.
Our coordinator, My, has been nice throughout our experience, from giving us some recommendations of where to visit in Ho Chi Minh to listening to our preferences in terms of department rotation on placement. She has been very helpful throughout and she has done great work that contributed to us having a good experience in the hospital!
There are other coordinators that I did meet because somehow they ended up in our house, and they were very friendly and welcoming as well. There are activities that they prepare for other volunteers and us from other houses, which is nice and fun because we get to meet other people. We did a fruit workshop, which was very fun. Shoutout to Ken and the other girl (sorry, I forgot her name), but they were very nice and we had a great time learning and tasting different typical fruits in Vietnam. We even made a TikTok jeje!
Placement on it's own, has been a valuable experience because we were able to see a different healthcare system and learn about common diseases in Vietnam. Overall, the staff were kind and made an effort to interact with us using Google Translate. Some of them knew how to speak English, so that was even better. It's funny how we could have a whole 5min conversation in silence, just typing and reading! Learned more than I thought and met interesting people. As mentioned before, we did get the chance to rotate in different departments, which is amazing because we got to see different environments and have a fuller picture of the hospital's environment.
We didn't go to any of the weekend travels, but we arranged and plan our own itineraries every weekend, and they were fine with it. Just have to fill some forms in advance and is fine.
Overall, it has been a very good experience! Vietnam has lots to offer; 6 weeks have flown by! Happy to go back home but I will miss Vietnam. Surely come back again; beautiful place and welcoming people!
*Sorry to whoever had to read all this, and thank you for appreciating my time writing this :)

An Incredible Experience in Tanzania…
An Incredible Experience in Tanzania with The Mighty Roar
I recently travelled to Tanzania with The Mighty Roar, and I can honestly say it was an incredible experience from start to finish. Two weeks genuinely wasn’t enough!
The food was tasty and there was always plenty of fruit available. My only suggestion would be to have a little more variety and include more traditional Tanzanian cuisine, as some meals could feel a bit samey.
The bar was really convenient and offered drinks at great value for money. It was lovely having somewhere on-site to relax and socialise after a busy day.
The staff were absolutely fantastic. So friendly, helpful, polite and always smiling. One of my favourite things was how they were constantly teaching us little bits of Swahili, it really helped us connect with the local culture and people.
The day trips were brilliant and great value for money. The waterfalls, hot springs and Maasai village were all fantastic experiences and gave us the opportunity to see different sides of Tanzania.
The safaris were exceptional and completely exceeded my expectations. Seeing the wildlife in its natural environment was genuinely unforgettable and definitely one of the highlights of the trip.
The accommodation was clean, comfortable and perfectly adequate for what you need. It’s important to remember that this isn’t a 5 star hotel, but it provides everything you need for the experience and was a comfortable place to come back to after a busy day.
The hospital placement was incredibly eye opening. It gave me an opportunity to experience healthcare in a very different environment and really opened my eyes to the realities of healthcare provision and poverty in Tanzania. It was challenging, humbling and incredibly rewarding. It could be improved by the placements being a bit more structured.
Overall, The Mighty Roar gave me an experience I will never forget. I came away with so many memories, new experiences and a much greater appreciation for the people, culture and healthcare system in Tanzania.
If I could change one thing, it would be to make the trip longer, two weeks simply wasn't enough! I would have happily stayed much longer.
A huge thank you to everyone at The Mighty Roar for making my time in Tanzania so special.

Marine Conservation - Greece
Great experience in Kefalonia. Spent 2 weeks from 13/08 - 27/08. Part of the Marine Conservation Team and had a very kind and supportive team. It was enjoyable from start to finish. Got involved in activities I wouldn't have otherwise had the opportunity of doing. Accommodation was good and rotas were fair. Only area of improvement would be being more specific on what gear is needed as unaware and being concise on what is given. Expected a Rashguard being provided but wasn't. Food was OK.

Tanzania Midwifery Elective
I stayed in Comfy Stay Summit Hotel in Moshi, Tanzania. Here, I competed a 3 week medical elective placement where we remained in the maternity unit as I am training to be a student midwife. The staff at the hostel were incredible, they helped us logistically with our placement as well as with arranging donations. They also went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable, safe and enjoyable - great food, fun company, speedy service. A big thank you to the staff, they were great! I will miss them! I would like to come back to Tanzania as a qualified midwife and do a similar experience, and I would be more than happy to go with The Mighty Roar :)

The best experience ever
The best experience ever! Me and my friends have loved every second of our stay at the summit comfy stay hotel. The staff are super kind and incredibly attentive, especially Daniel and junior! Everyone here ensures that you feel safe and well looked after. The drivers are amazing taking us into markets and driving us everywhere ensuring we are looked after well. The food is always good and the company provides the most amazing trips for great prices. We have needed assistance from reception regarding our room a few times and again amazing with how quick they deal with our queries. Truly a 10/10 team all around.
It really is the most amazing place and I would definitely come back!
Thank you all.

Amazing experience with the Mighty Roar
I have had an amazing experience with the Mighty Roar. Everything was really well organized when I arrived in Thailand and Winyoo is really the nicest person you will ever meet. In Thailand there were a lot of activities organized outside of volunteering and even the volunteering was really wel organized. I really like volunteering with the Mighty Roar, as it’s great and very affordable. I was only in Thailand for 2 weeks, but I really wish I was able to stay longer, like 1 or 2 weeks longer. I did the teaching program and that was really amazing! The location of where you're staying, it's amazing to get everywhere by tram or by Grab. I would 100% recommend the Mighty Roar to friends and family (I’m already doing at the moment), but it's that amazing.

Take me back to Omiš
I was in Croatia for 3 weeks and I wish I could’ve stayed forever!! Diving is obviously very tiring but with such a great team I always looked forward to being in the sea :) The diving instructors are kind-hearted people who want to keep us safe while protecting the environment.
The hostel we stayed at is also one of a kind, it feels like home and even the travellers that you only meet for a day become friends for life.
There is so much to do in and around Omiš that the weekends are filled with fun and relaxation with your new best friends. Definitely an unforgettable experience!!!

mental health programme
I spent 6 weeks on the mental health experience programme and did the cultural safari weekend trip in Sri Lanka. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at TMR the team were always happy to help if you asked and everything was well organised. I will say there is no deviation in the programme from week to week so if you don’t require 6 weeks then I’d say 4 would be perfect as it can get repetitive and as the company states the doctors are not there to teach you you are mainly there as an observer. However I will say the one day a week we got to go to Sithnivana Hospital was very good and helpful and the staff there was willing to teach as well as showing you there own therapeutic practice and allowing you access to medical files to gain better insight into how the hospital works. Thilini who manages the programme is lovely and was always happy to answer any questions or move you to a different hospital/environment should you want to and was happy to sign time sheets on time. Chamo and Chatto were also lovely. The cultural triangle weekend trip was well planned and very enjoyable. Overall TMR provided a good experience

amazing Bali experience !
Great experience with the mighty roar in Bali. Accommodation was top notch for volunteering accom, super clean, rooms of 2 shared with en-suite, great food served to us, an amazing pool and amazing views.
The experience volunteering itself was so inspiring, working with the kids or on the Marin conservation. We all learnt so much about the culture of Bali in a really safe well nurtured environment. I couldn’t recommend this experience enough to people. There was even families doing volunteering there together.

Amazon Shelter, Peru
I had a great time at the Amazon Shelter in Puerto Maldonado, Peru. I spent 7 weeks there, and being able to work along side the monkeys and the birds in the rainforest was such a surreal experience. It is really hard work, but rewarding at the same time.
The staff was lovely, and the food was really good.
For me, the accommodation was just fine, but be prepared, the rats and the tarantulas will come and visit you every now and then!

I was on a 4 week childcare experience in tanzania and did weekend excursions to zanzibar and a safari. The experience throughout has been amazing and I couldn’t fault anything. The staff go above and beyond for you and nothing is too much trouble. I have learnt so much being here and I’m already planning my next trips. Upon arrival there is so many things to do to keep busy like day trips and helping out at other services. I would recommend this company to anyone!

This experience has been very eye…
This experience has been very eye opening, educational and interesting. I have had a fantastic time making friends, and being able to practice midwifery with the maternity staff here with fellow midwifery students! It’s an incredible experience, and they put on really good trips to do, the lifts are free all day/to placement and to wherever you want to go. The staff are absolutely amazing and they make the experience better, good food and fun vibes.
However, the mighty roar allow people who have no medical experience/training to go on the medical placement. This needs to change as they have had no training and don’t know what they’re looking at. This is extremely unethical to allow people with no experience to watch invasive medical procedures/exams like it’s a zoo! This is not okay. There needs to be more restrictions on age and qualification when applying to do the medical placement. Please be aware of this. This is coming from a place of trying to protect the dignity and safety of patients. This is not appropriate.
It’s an amazing experience but be aware of this.
