Medical elective
I came to Sri Lanka with the mighty roar to complete my medical elective. The team there are so kind and so supportive, they made me feel like I was in safe hands for the 6 weeks I was there. My supervisor for medical placement, Thilini, is brilliant. She is very well organised, allocating us to wards and seeing to any requests we had if we wanted to see a different specialty. She made sure we were well received on the wards by escorting us and introducing us to the staff. All the medical students were in awe of how dedicated she is to her job, especially because she is pregnant and due soon! Thank you Thilini, I’ll miss working with you!
Staying at TMR was such a pleasure. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were provided Monday to Friday and the food was delicious. There were many good facilities at TMR, they offer a great laundry service, where a lovely lady cleans and dries the clothes for you at a very low price. The team is very good at helping organise private drivers for weekend trips. All the staff were very welcoming and friendly and wanted us to really enjoy Sri Lanka

I did the teaching volunteer program…
I did the teaching volunteer program and it was such a beautiful learning experience for understanding teaching abroad, as well as learning about their culture and lifestyle. I was only teaching for a week and felt like I wasn’t there for long enough although I enjoyed it either way. I felt extremely welcomed and appreciated to be there in their community. Although I’m 17 and dyslexic, I found myself easily understanding what I was needed to do and the communication between myself and the children was broken up but easily managed throughout the lessons. The accommodation I was staying in was so clean and was such a lovely place to stay. I also did the travelling with Mighty Roar which was good, although I did feel like I was slightly being chauffeured around and saw a lot of tourists attractions, however, I am glad I did it as I saw more of the island and culture than I would have if I continued teaching. At some points we did communicate with our designated driver and organised our own trips away from the plan, though we did normally stick with the schedule. I would definitely recommend this programme to anyone interested, especially for under 18’s, however I wouldn’t recommend relying on the travelling to get the full travel experience unless you are underaged. Such a lovely experience and would definitely volunteer again.

Naankuse
Travelled to Na/ankuse for a 2 week stay and the experiences there were incredible being able to get up close to animals and actively help with their conservation was amazing.
Only thing stopping a full 5 star reciew was my dietary requirements felt slightly dismissed or not served to the same level as others on the reserve. It was often cooked last minute/not served unless asked and without food labels it was difficult to know as someone with a gluten intolerance what would be safe to eat.

Thailand travel and volunteer was amazing! The teaching at the start was so heartwarming and made you realise how lucky we are in the UK. Winyoo gave us lots of options for the teaching locations, as well as being very organised with transport for the travel part of the TMR trip too. My 3 weeks at the mighty roar Sri Lanka…
My 3 weeks at the mighty roar Sri Lanka was absolutely incredible, I had 2 weeks at the dog program which was amazing, all the dogs there are super well looked after and I have never seen a happier group of dogs than the ones at the sanctuary. all the staff, especially Kavi who is one of the nicest people you will ever meet, were all very friendly and supportive and doing a great job in all of there departments. I would highly recommend doing the 9 day trip which takes you all around Sri Lanka which really made me feel like I learned and experienced the country. Karu and the bus driver were brilliant and super friendly, attending too all my, and the groups needs. Overall my experience at the mighty roar Sri Lanka was without fault, I had no problems with the accommodation and the food was pretty good too.

I did volunteering through the mighty…
I did volunteering through the mighty roar in Bali for 2 weeks doing marine conservation and had an amazing time! All staff were very friendly and super helpful making volunteering very easy. The accommodation was perfect, right by the beach with a lovely pool and very well kept. The food was also great with lots of different options. I would highly recommend using the mighty roar as they are very well organised and make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible.

Ghana
My time in Ghana has been more than I could have ever imagined. It has been one of the most eye-opening, beautiful and amazing experiences of my life. As a part of my experience, I took part in the mental health nursing programme, which was incredibly eye-opening, with it giving me the opportunity to see what mental health is like within the hospital. It was really interesting and valuable to experience health care in a different environment.
I also spent time teaching in the local school, which was the highlight of my trip. Working with the children was so rewarding that I am now considering teaching when I return home, as this experience has given me a new passion for working with children and education. The children in the village are some of the most loving, kind, beautiful children I have ever met.
The community of Busua is truly amazing. Everyone was so welcoming, friendly and kind whether at local restaurants, bars or simply around the village.
Finally, I cannot thank Dinah, Philomena, Florence, Francis, Rubben, Stephen, and Alfred enough. They have been incredibly accommodating and have shown so much care and kindness towards all of the volunteers. They are the most kind and caring people, and they could not have done more to make me feel at home in their village and country. The food they prepared for the volunteers throughout the trip was phenomenal, and the activities that they organised throughout made the experience even more special.
I have had the absolute best time in Busua and I genuinely feel that this experience has changed my life forever. I have made friendships and memories that I will remember for the rest of my life.
I am already planning on going back next year.

I did the childcare elective in…

The coordinators really made our stay…
The coordinators really made our stay out here in Ho Chi Minh City. They were super friendly, attentive and caring. Medical placement in Tanzania
I attended the medical placement in Tanzania with The Mighty Roar for three weeks. The experience has been eye opening and allowed me to observe a variety of departments across the hospital. The hostel in Moshi is in a great location and the staff are so friendly and welcoming! There are so many activities from football to hot springs and weekend trips on Safari and to visit Zanzibar. Thoroughly enjoyed my time here!

Tanzania medical placement
I was on the four week medical placement, where I was able to see a range of different medical interventions such as C sections, natural births, and wound care. The staff working for the mighty roar have all been lovely, polite and helpful. I always felt safe during my trip and would recommend to others. The weekend trips such as the wildlife safari and the day trip to base camp of Mount Kilimanjaro were all really well organised and worth the money. We were fed and looked after.

4 weeks in Tanzania
I have just completed my nursing degree out here in Tanzania. There has been no better way to end 3 years of hardwork getting to give back and make a difference in the world. TMR make everything so easy to organise and once we got here the staff have been nothing but accommodating and friendly. After being here for 4 weeks we have built such a community with them and all the people I have met on the way is an added bonus. The medical volunteering program is truly eye opening but I have loved every second and I feel extra grateful for everything we have. It’s definitely an experience I’d reccomend and do again :) Asante Sana Tanzania!!

Tanzania Teaching Placement
I did the teaching volunteer programme in Moshi, Tanzania for two weeks. It was an incredible experience working with the young children to teach them English at Soweto school, with the Safari trip to keep us busy over the weekend too. Looking forward to hopefully coming back one day!
