The company helped me throughout my experience, I took part in a 6 week medical programme. I felt well prepared and was in safe hands, had the most amazing experience and met many new people. Would definitely recommend anyone to take that step and experience a new culture and country through these programmes.

I volunteered for 2 weeks in Tanzania
I volunteered for 2 weeks in Tanzania. It was the best time ever. A very rewarding experience. I got to do a mixture of childcare and the dog sanctuary to help out. And the weekend trip to the safari was amazing. All the staff during volunteering and at the accommodation were 10/10. I miss them all very much and have made some friends for life.

The best time in Vietnam!!
This past week with the Mighty Roar in Vietnam has been amazing!! I cannot thank them enough for this experience I got whilst teaching English to the kids. I have made so many friends and so many beautiful memories!! Thank you TMR!!!

I volunteered in childcare/teaching in…
I volunteered in childcare/teaching in Bangkok for 2 weeks. It was a nice experience helping teach English in nurseries and primary schools in Bangkok. The hotel was also nice since they had air conditioning and allowed us to access the cafe for eating and socialising with others. The local team was friendly and welcoming to me as well as all the other volunteers I met. It was nice that they gave us freedom to choose which schools to go to and I also had a lot of free time to explore Bangkok. I also enjoyed the overnight trip to a rural area in a province near Bangkok that was organised by the local team.
However, some parts of it was a bit disorganised. I didn’t really know what my volunteering role involved and whether I need to prepare for it. I was thrown into unfamiliar situations and had to learn what to do by observing and improvising. It would be better if there was a clear plan and schedule to follow so all the volunteers knew what they had to do each day. I feel like we also need to be taught how to teach the children English as sometimes we had to think of activities on the spot and felt unprepared. It would also be nicer if all the volunteers could’ve went to the schools / nurseries together as it was intimidating to go on my own.

It’s also great to hear that you appreciated having the freedom to choose your placements and plenty of time to explore Bangkok.
We’re sorry to hear that you sometimes felt unsure about what to expect from your volunteering role and would have valued more guidance and structure. We took your comments seriously and discussed them with our team in Bangkok. As part of this, we’re strengthening the guidance provided to volunteers at the nursery, including clear step-by-step information on arrival, and improving the information shared before volunteers travel so they have a clearer understanding of their role and how to prepare.
We also understand your comments about travelling to placements independently. Volunteer numbers can vary during the year, which meant there were occasions when volunteers attended placements individually during your stay. We acknowledge that this can feel unfamiliar, particularly when settling into a new environment.
We’ve really appreciated being able to discuss your feedback with you directly, and we were especially pleased to hear in our follow-up that, despite the areas you highlighted, you really enjoyed your trip and felt that you learnt a lot through the experience. We hope your time in Bangkok continues to be a happy and memorable part of your travels.

I volunteered on the turtle program for three weeks and met so many amazing people which made my trip despite the very rainy weather. I also participated in the teaching program to help fill the days and had a lot of fun

Moshi review
I did the 4 week medical placement in Moshi and really enjoyed it! The hospital was interesting and there were some good learning opportunities there. The staff at the mighty roar were so good and really made the stay!

I had an eye opening experience with the healthcare system in Ho Chi Minh. I was treated very welcomed and openly to try to get involved with culture and placement. I did have the opportunity to see as much as possible which I appreciate greatly from the organisation. I am also grateful for the local experience given in living not in the centre of Ho Chi Minh. I really liked how everything was organised and communicated with the hospital. I would recommend it to any other student to do it!

Horse Riding Wildlife Conservation in Zimbabwe
This was my second time volunteering with TMR and as always can’t fault them. It’s so handy to know they’re always an email away and were particularly helpful in assisting me to rearrange my dates and make a lot of amendments this trip after my travel companion dropped out.
The local team at Imire are brilliant and the volunteer accommodation is amazing with a beautiful dam, a zebra who lives the garden, a swimming pool, cosy living area and limited numbers to each room. Jane and Taffy were amazing hosts cooking and cleaning for us during our stay.
In one short week we were able to track countless rhinos, walk with elephants, ride among giraffes, observe Crispin the crocodile at feeding time, see lots of other bush life including a python, antelopes and pumbas, help repair boundary fences and collect rocks to build a bridge, and spend time with the community!
As with the Sri Lanka sea turtle project I completed in 2024, ethical standards were high and costs comparably low to other volunteer organisations. 100% will be back :)

Best trip ever!!
I came to Tanzania for 3 weeks to do childcare and dog sanctuary and I loved it!! From the very start everyone was very welcoming. I learnt so much about the culture and the Masai and got to do some welcome activities with them which I will remember forever. When at the school I had a great time knowing I helped the children warms my heart. Mama Helen and her team in the younger years are so lovely and make sure you are cared for and never do anything you don’t like. The dog sanctuary was awesome you can see the staff try their best and really appreciate the volunteers. The staff at accommodation are so lovely and kind and always make sure you’re ok and make the effort to get to know you. If you need any help you can easily reach out on WhatsApp and they reply so quick! I really recommend that everyone should do this as it’s the best experience of my life!! Shoutout to Daniel, junior, Felix, Neyma, Alice, the drivers, mama Helen, Brenda, Peter, shibani and everyone else!!

I had a wonderful time at The Mighty…
I had a wonderful time at The Mighty Roar in Sri Lanka. I have to particularly thank Chamo, Thilini, Kavi and the others for their kindness and willingness to always help whatever the situation. Before you decide to do your medical placement here, I would advise only doing 2 weeks maximum as a medical student, as the programme is strictly observational only and it does become very repetitive - I found myself on the same ward 3 times! It was however a great experience to see how the hospital in Balapitiya was ran. Finally, the rooms are okay, they can be very cramped and there is absolutely nowhere to store your clothes or bags (except under the bed but no drawers or anything) so I would take that into consideration when packing for this trip. The beds all have nets and there is 1 bathroom per room. They provide towels and bedding, as well as air conditioning and WiFi. Aside from the hospital, you will fall in love with the towns surrounding the TMR base, and find yourself not wanting to leave - there are amazing brunch and food places as well as a free pool on the beach for TMR volunteers.

4 week stay in Sri Lanka
Completed 4 weeks with The Mighty Roar in Sri Lanka. Staff were amazing, always quick to reply to messages, very welcoming and always happy to help. My experience here was absolutely incredible, all the staff members at Karu’s guest house were amazing and extremely supportive with anything we needed. The child care program was excellent, well organised and getting to know the children was fantastic. Our program leader Chamo was also very helpful and supportive whenever we needed. Overall I had the best time and would 100% do it again.

Costa Rica trip
I was on the Costa Rica trip, volunteering at the animal sanctuary. It was the best experience I've ever had
Unfortunately I only went for a week so I am 100% going back there and staying longer
The people were lovely there and the animals were even better
