I've just been banned for getting…

I've just been banned from asking questions for getting downvoted on a question they didnt like! I rarely use Stack Overflow anyway but I have 121 upvotes. The last question I asked was about a PHP error, being a novice on PHP I didnt word it as the Stack Overflow GODS wished and it got 2 downvotes. They referred me to an article that DIDNT answer my question and so I deleted the question. My questions have reached 15K people and when I have found the answer myself, have posted it to be helpful to others. Honestly, Stack Overflow has become like a lot of facebook forums, full of self important individuals. It's a real shame as it used to be a really useful resource.

Stack overflow is a doubled edge sword

Stack overflow is a doubled edge sword, you can find answers to some very difficult issues, some people are wonderfully helpful and respond with answer the most complex problems.

Unfortunately there is also a rather large crowd of software bigots, people who down vote questions for no good reasons, moderators who delete your answers with out saying why. If you raise the question of 'why' did xyzzy happen on one of the 'meta' groups the normal response is lots of down marks and no clear answers. Be prepared to have a cast iron hide and learn to not allow yourself to wound up by some of the resident clowns

Poor help

Poor help, filled with arrogant people, and moderators.
So I been on Stack Overflow for a couple of months, and I do not like there site one bit. I had a PHP expression error for Python, and they closed my question and marked it to a question that was nowhere near that was mine. I've even gotten answers on my post saying "you should know what's missing", and "its so obvious." People there seem to dont understand english what every you write there alwys thos guys who dont understand english or what so ever and delete your question I will never recommend, anyone to go to Stack Overflow.

Stack Overflow is full of arrogant, rude, and unhelpful people.

From now on, I will not recommend using Stack Overflow. I just can't believe that there are so many arrogant people since I've joined Stack Overflow about 3 years ago. I believe the other reviews that were negative and am sorry for their poor experience regarding it. Here's my overall experience.

I have joined Stack Overflow, but stayed idle until I posted a question regarding closing source an open source application, which turned out to be more software engineering related question than programming related. Turns out that the consequences are getting one downvote, and a vote to close the question. This question was at the moment I didn't know a bit about Stack Overflow.

However, my interests to Java declined, so I kept going on with my development of "Kernel Simulator" until I faced an extremely difficult problem with the two computers taking turns to chat in its remote debugging chat feature. I tried to figure out the cause for hours, and I have EVEN googled for the answers that didn't help! Finally, because I got disappointed, I went in to post my questions with DETAILED information, source code, and EVEN the outputs!

Guess what was the response. Someone whose name will not be disclosed told me that I can't use StreamReader and that I have to google for "vb.net chat application." BUT I HAVE GOOGLED AND NONE OF THE ANSWERS WORKED! So, I kept figuring out why until this thing came up across my head: streamnet.ReadTimeout = 10

I put it in my code, and it's fixed. I only had to wrap it using Try...Catch block to get messages from every computer connected to the kernel that has remote debugging turned on.

After few months, when I decided that Visual Studio 2019 kept annoying me because it wasn't able to check for errors LIVE as I type like previous versions of VS would, and I was SO USED TO that habit, I've posted this question. You know what? One person that didn't understand the point of the question came, saying "Have you turned on Option Strict On?" WHAT? BUT I AM TALKING ABOUT VISUAL STUDIO 2019 NOT BEING ABLE TO CHECK ALL MY FILES FOR ERRORS LIVE AS I TYPE LIKE VS2017 WOULD!

After exactly 5 minutes, a person that fully understood the situation came and said that I was right for performance improvements. However, he said that he didn't know how to revert it. After three days, I've thanked him. At this point, nobody even answered it!

At this point, I only have 23 points. I will no longer be contributing to Stack Overflow as a result of this horrible experience. People that told me wrong questions and answers that had nothing to do with the topic that I'm talking about exist. People that down vote you exist. People on SO that tell you to google exist!!!

Imagine that somebody tells you to google something when you asked them a question regarding the topic you're talking about IN REAL LIFE. None of the people that I've talked to in real life have even asked me to google something!

Because I am afraid to continue getting misleading answers, and because there are no more easy questions, I will no longer contribute to Stack Overflow and all of the Stack Exchange sites, especially a question that talked about KDE Plasma not starting because the computer would freeze that is found in Ask Ubuntu. Instead of informing me that OpenGL 2 and SSE2 are required, one person asked me a question rudely after I have posted my own answer.

By the way, don't go with just my words; keep reading the negative reviews, and see what is the current state of Stack Overflow. In the future, I may close my Stack Exchange account. Also, google "What is bad about Stack Overflow" and see how many people are suffering from this, especially the gamification of the reputation systems.

---

UPDATE 1: I have seen next to zero improvements to this site.

For example, I came across a question from 2015 that was asked by a newbie wanting to know how an app called AppOps can do this using a subset of Android APIs, and six unhelpful people downvoted it. When the original poster questioned why, this is the response:

"Welcome to StackOverflow, unfortunately your question does not demonstrate any attempt of prior research. In order to get a good response, it is advised you should show evidence you have attempted to solve the problem, either in code or otherwise, before asking a question. –
Ed George"

Huh? This newbie just wanted to know if it was possible to achieve the same goal that AppOps did in 2015! If he had tried to do it, he would've posted all the code for these crybabies!

Check out https ://sergworks (dot) wordpress.com /2012/09/26/why-stackoverflow-sucks/ and see how many people suffered because of these shower of morons there. Luckily, I have an account at VBForums and a C# community. I hope that someday these rude people finally man up and solve their arrogance, rudeness, and unhelpfulness!

Awful plattform

Awful plattform.

You are fooled and questions are deleted if you have not been asked properly. No chance to adjust anything

Stop humiliating peole who are seeking answers -

Sadly, with all the knowledge this site (allegedly) possesses, posting a question is more like hopping on stage and hope no one throws stuff at you. I used the site as a last result - as they are the epitome of "asking questions is stupid" - even if the question is repeated, or subpar - is it right to humiliate someone with a negative mark?
S.O. practices negative reinforcement and humiliation. No matter the question, unless it is a challenging one will be met with negative remarks(and the bold ones will actually humiliate you with a derogatory comment). Think of it like HOUSE (tv series) or SHERLOCK HOLMES, unless it is a challenging question, they will down-vote it.
S.O. suggestion - REMOVE the down vote system, and let the views and answers lead the way. Obviously if there are a lot of views and answers, the question must be meaningful, no views or no answers, question is moot, and should be passed by.

S.O. should stop using this method to harass, embarrass and humiliate their members.

Worst site for asking questions

Worst site for asking questions. The people at stackoverflow.com just ban you from asking questions. I had asked a really good question on that site and I get just one upvote! Then after that, i ask another question then i get this message:

"You have a history of asking low-quality questions. So you are limited to one question per week."

Although they said You can ask one question per week, The next week: the same message is there. It's like i'm in sort of question jail! I really wish i could give no stars!

People here think the who questions…

People here think the who questions should wrote an essay. Just a plan question to the point is invalid for them. If one has an error and dnno whatbto do or how to solve, n he asks I'm stack that I have done "abc" n got an error of "xyz" , ppl will close his question. Coz they want to know what's next, if someone would have known whatz next why would he post a question. Ppl are arrogant and disrespectful

First question immediately closed by moderator

The first question I posted to the community regarding a coding project i have was closed by a moderator who thought it was a poorly formulated question, even though I started getting answers from other members that in fact did understand the question. It seems really toxic. Never going back there again.

I've been a member for almost 10 years now. I have always found there precious help to fill my weaknesses with JS and PHP. I also helped others as often as I could. A very good platform that I recommend for beginner coders but also the most experienced.

Went from best-website-ever to please-delete-this-site-asap

I am a senior lead developer, many years of developing in different languages and platform. I am also part time teacher in computer science and development.
Till a few years ago I loved this website. People were helpful, friendly, and respectful. Now it became the Facebook of programming. I posted a few posts about Python and WordPress. Two things I don't really know and want to learn. The posts are simple, I am not demanding (like some, more liked, questions are), within the rules of this 'website'. Not even 5 minutes later the posts are removed. Reasons; not inside the rules of stack overflow and it is not a programming question. How can a question about 'Running a query from MySql in PHP gives error' (with all explanations, errors and codes) not be a programming question?

Other example; I am building this application for my company. It holds sensitive information and the code-style and functions/methods cannot be placed outside the company. I had a problem and no-one in the company (a 2600+ employee-company) could help me out. So I placed a question, with sufficient information and code examples, so called snippets (which you also get from answers from these other 'developers' on stackoverflow), and I get 30 replies. I was happy, but 29 of the replies was about the fact the examples aren't sufficient and people need to see the whole codebase. The example code I gave works fine and showed my problems.

I removed my account and I am trying to warn others. Google works way better and if you have questions and want answers of REAL developers and engineers; go to Reddit. I have way more success there.

StackOverflow is history if it was up to me. The moderators think they are God/Allah, or whatever god you believe in.

It's a great site when you're searching…

It's a great site when you're searching for an answer but ask a question and the only thing you will get is downvotes and people telling you how your question is not up to the policy. I went to another site asked the same question and got the answer I needed in the first five minutes by the first person who answered. It's crazy because it seems like the only goal on this site is to downvotes on questions that are not asked exactly as the rules. I deleted my account on this site. I'll create a new Stack Overflow without all the garbage this one has.
