Very helpful and professional great price too

I found the process quite easy to negotiate and the quoted price was acceptable.

Once I finally managed to get someone to recognise that I was an RAC member and log the breakdown correctly, the roadside assistance itself was excellent. However, the process of trying to register the breakdown was completely unacceptable and fell far below the standard I would expect from a major breakdown provider. At a time when my wife was stranded and needed help, we were instead forced to spend a considerable amount of time proving that we had cover and being passed between departments.
My wife, who was driving when the car broke down, initially called for assistance but was told that the RAC had no record of our membership. I then called myself and, after eventually managing to speak to a person, provided my details only to be given the same response. Rather than taking ownership of the problem and resolving it, the adviser immediately transferred me to the membership department. That team was able to confirm very quickly that I was, in fact, a valid member, which makes it even more frustrating that the breakdown team could not access or verify the same information. I was then transferred back to the breakdown service and left on hold for a further five to ten minutes before finally reaching someone who appeared to understand the process and was able to register the breakdown.
From that point onwards, the service improved significantly. The patrol arrived within approximately 30 minutes and the technician was efficient, helpful and able to get my wife back on the road shortly afterwards. The roadside response deserves genuine credit, but it should not take more than 90 minutes of calls, transfers and waiting before a valid member’s breakdown is even recorded. The delay was caused not by demand for a patrol, but by an apparent failure in the RAC’s membership records, systems or internal communication. In a genuine emergency, that kind of administrative failure could leave a customer in a vulnerable or unsafe position for far longer than necessary. The RAC needs to review how membership details are shared between departments and ensure that frontline staff can resolve verification issues without repeatedly transferring customers. An excellent patrol service does not excuse a registration process that was disorganised, frustrating and wholly inadequate.

Automatic renewal payment went to a card I had cancelled several months back due to it being compromised. Immediately on being notified I entered details of my new card and payment was made straightaway. Nevertheless RAC Car Insurance still charged me an admin fee of £20 due to a 'failed' payment. Not a good look!!

We have just purchased a comprehensive car policy with RAC which covered exactly what we required. We found the process of joining very easy.

Someone drove into my car two weeks ago, I don't have the policy documents, I went through my text messages on my phone and found a text from the RAC from last year, June 2025, it said 'if you are involved in a collision or breakdown, call this number. I called the number and then logged my incident. It turns out they are not my insurer and its a third party management company?? Come on, send people their up to date contact details for breakdown and recovery and also the number for incidents. Now I am lost with no contacts and only received a text from Allianz which is a no reply number! Also, the price was a huge jump.

I have had insurance with the RAC before. This time despite my making a stupid error on my initial application. You made the application so easy and straight forward. I cannot fault any stage of the application. First class service.

RAC made my insurance renewal very straight forward and quick.

Easy transfer. My old insurer tried to slide a 50% increase by me. No chance

I received an email advising that documents regarding my renewal were available on the app. However, no documents were there so I phoned and spoke to an adviser who confirmed the documents were not ready. They set up the renewal for me and were very helpful. They did advise that I would still receive some reminders and these continued until the day before the renewal date. This was quite stressful as I was out of the country at the time, in a different time zone, so worried that I may have to try contacting the RAC if my insurance renewal didn’t show up. Luckily it did.
Overall, I am happy with the RAC, their app is generally easy to use and I was able to speak to an officer when there was an issue.

Not the most friendly helpful outfit. It's not really the RAC it seems to be administered by BSL like a lot of others. Take a good deal but shop around in depth.
