Constant harassment over the phone

Constant harassment over the phone, they don’t listen when told that we don’t play music, just continue with their threats. No phone calls for a while so I thought they had finally grasped that I don’t play music, today received a bill for a music license I don’t need.
The stress involved with dealing with this company has put me off of even considering playing music

Absolutely shocking company & Customer service is nil

Absolutely shocking company! Sent a spotter round to check on new businesses. apparently they caught us playing music whilst open. When i asked for proof they took a photo of the alexa device that was plugged in and we were using WHEN WE WERE CLOSED as we were still building things in the shop at the time. a sound clip that is not proof that it was being played in my store and a photo of my business card! When they called earlier in the year i was told no further action to be taken... However they must have been behind on sales/ targets as i have since received communication stating that they want £223 from me! If i don't pay up they will start court proceedings! I have tried numerous times to phone and speak to a human but no joy! What a way to kill a start up independant business, who doesn't play music in the shop and never intends too!

Absolute joke of a company

Absolute joke of a company
Called today to cancel as it become stupidly pricey, only to be told I had to pay £95 fee to cancel , for not giving one months notice my yearly bill is £263 ,my contract came in post 16th September, contract starts 7th October. How the hell am I suppose to remember that !! I said to the women why don't you email and remind us like all other companies, she didn't have an answer.
I'm absolutely fuming, 15 years I have been paying for this , absolutely disgraceful. I was also threatened, if I didn't pay this fee to cancel I would incur a full payment , even if I cancel contract.

Call staff are Incredibly rude

Call staff are Incredibly rude. I wish I had read reveiws before I told a friend (Who has a license) to call because she is being grossly overcharged.

The woman on the phone shut her down & was incredibly condescending. I am looking forward to Monday. When I will be calling on her behalf to get this straightened out.

Avoid working with this company directly. If you can. Work with your local council & apply for
premesis licensing. Save the headache of dealing with these lot directly.

Harassment and a total lack of empathy…

Harassment and a total lack of empathy for struggling small business. This company is quick to threaten and worry our business both on the phone and via email . They asked for several years of back payment and refused to accept any mitigation or even a staged repayment offer. Threatened with debt collection and court proceedings they are truly awful people .

Event costs quadrupled despite previous issued quote

I obtained a quote for my charity event music license in January for just over £400. I phoned back the month before the event as instructed to take out the license and I was informed due to an employee error the quote was wrong and my cost was £2,000. As a not for profit who relies on grants this could have completely crippled us. There was a total lack of understanding and empathy from PRS.

Endless telephone and email harassment…

Endless telephone and email harassment from them trying to get me to pay for a music licence to play music to my customers, which we don't do, and have never done, and have told them we don't do every damn time they ring.

Despite repeatedly registering complaints with TPS over their call based harassment and trading standards about their conduct, they still bloody keep ringing. They need shut down, its harassment and blackmail at best.

Disappointed that I have to give 1 star

Don’t really know what more I can add to the 97% of people that have commented on this company.
Trust-pilot asks how I think this company can improve but it’s pretty clear to me that PPL-PRS aren’t interest.
My tip is, if possible , avoid this company like the plague.

We are a charity and this company are hounding us

This company have hounded, persecuted and bullied me constantly and all we do is run a charity shop..
They had an account in someone’s name (never heard of the name) a phone number (didn’t know the number) We have never had an account with them.. They sent a bill for over £1000 pounds I phoned them and explain that we don’t have music.. They said they have a photo of a speaker which I replied it was for sale.. They then said if we are testing music items we have to pay. We very rarely get music items if any it would of been approximately 3 times so 5 mins testing equates to 15 minutes.. They asked for the charity Registration number which we sent.. Then they want proof we are donating (bank statement) They say we will get discount as a charity..We don’t need discount as we don’t need a licence.
They sent a spy into a little charity shop that is not part of a big organisation to take a picture of a tiny speaker that was for sale.. How low can a company get ???
This treatment is disgusting !!!!!

absolutely impossible to deal with this company double charging for the same and unnecessary charges added to the bills demanding to be paid no interest in listening and taking us to the court

Absolutely useless company to deal…

Absolutely useless company to deal with. l have been dealing with them for four years and once they have threatened court action and once had an CCJ issued against me even though l had been paying.
l refuse to have a direct debit because their bills are ALWAYS wrong and noone listens to me.
l have now recieved a bill for £600 even though l have been paying every month for four years!!!!

Disgraceful Company

Received a letter to my new tiny flower stall. Stating i was playing music without a licence on my tiny radio. I had no idea about any licencing laws! I discovered that a 'Spotter' had pretended to be a customer, and was taking photographs of my stall and making an audio, without my permission. I feel violated and was 'tripped up' in the phone call, so as to incriminate myself. It was an awful experience which has cost me dearly, in a new struggling business. Why can't a warning be issued? Instead of burying new businesses with extortionate bills. As if things arn't tough enough at the moment. This has left me scarred. PPL PRS please don't bother to reply as I never want to speak to any of you ever again.You are awful and the way you send spies out is outrageous. We are trying to recover from Covid, and you are dragging businesses down! Disgraceful !

Sent 2 cheques apparently both wrong one was date the other the figure didn't match have asked for the back and nothing but they added 140 for none payment of invoice this sounds like a scam worst firm iv ever dealt with

Awful experience

Initial call made into the office they did not say who they where or what the call was about, the first question to a colleague was, do you listen to music. The reply was yes because they have a personal device, they have now hung onto this answer and assumed that they were listening to a radio in the office. They base their calls on education about the licensing fee but in their introduction they do not. Now we are being told that this also applies to a TV license although there is nothing on to say this when purchasing a TV license. This information should be included here. It seems that the staff must be on some kind of percentage to get people signed up. Absolutely disgraceful conduct and ethic.

This is a criminal company who take…

This is a criminal company who take your detail from the company house and bombard you with a licence fee without knowing whether you play music or not and without verifying how big is business or anything to determine the amount. Communication is intentionally ignored for several weeks to escalate the issue so they can force you pay through a third party.
Please refer them the trading standard agency so we can change this companies unlawful practice.

Awful company.

Awful company. They just want your money regardless of you needing the licence or not. I have sent them multiple emails stating that we don't play music in our premises therefore we don't need a licence but they are still harassing me with an invoice.

Totally disgusting company

I had always paid for my licence for my premises after leaving in 2021 they have kept charging me every year for a licence even though they are getting money from the current licensees. I received a enforcement letter having to pay in full or court! I am told by both parties no choice but to pay. I have tried to cancel my account but they keep charging me. It is making me ill.

Should be abolished

I have recently re-opened my business at new premises. Had a music licence before with no problems. Met with a field rep and agreed terms but stated we were not ready to go ahead as improvements were needed to premises before we could open. Also asked to pay over 8 or 10 months.
Had a couple of invoices demanding full amount but explained we were not yet operating.
We opened 7th June and I advised them accordingly and asked how many months they wanted us to pay over. Response was a final demand for the full amount.
Spoke to an adviser who apologised and said he would speak to our field rep and send me a DD form over either 8 or 10 months.
No response.
At 3AM on a Saturday morning I received by email a demand for immediate payment of the whole amount. A very nasty email and because of its timing I couldn't contact anybody about this until Monday morning.
A very dangerous and stupid way to act when so many people are currently suffering mental health problems.
I phoned on Monday morning and the matter was sorted out quickly and professionally by an advisor.
I asked for a senior manager to ring me back as I was concerned that they had sent such a threatening email in the middle of the night at the start of a weekend.An email that was bound to cause stress to anybody receiving it. I also said that I wanted to discuss else with a senior manager.
No phone call so I complained in writing about the email and the failure to ring you back but not the other issue.That was acknowledged and I was told as I had complained no phone call would be made. I replied saying I still wanted that phone call as I want to discuss an issue which is totally separate from the complaint.
Phone call today from Lorraine. Very pleasant. Apologised. Told me the system sends things out late at night and there is no checking whether the content is relevant or not. Nothing she can do about it. I've asked to speak to someone who can do something about it since she couldn't help and didn't appreciate the seriousness of the matter.
I also stated again I was still waiting for the original call back. I was told they cancelled that when I complained even though they knew it was about something other than the complaint. Asked again for that call as well as the one mentioned above.
I'm not hopeful.
A nasty threatening organisation who are going to cause someone's death sending out incorrect threatening emails in the middle of the night over a weekend. They should be abolished.
PS I am a songwriter. I'm ashamed that this organisation represents songwriters.
