I was wrongly sold a policy with this…

I was wrongly sold a policy with this company. I was told that my payments were going to be £66 a month which turned out to me £830 one off payment. I have spoke to them on the phone twice and they have tried to blame me and that I now need to pay for the month I have used and a month's notice TOTAL JOKE. The guy on the phone kept blaming me and it was all my fault which in fact if I had known it was going to be that a month I would have never agreed to this.
They just want your money customer service is awful 45 minutes and not got anywhere other than being upset which they didn't care about either.
Please don't touch this company with a barge pole total scammers!!!

The rep walked in one day and just spoke to a waitress and send a bill
We did try few times to sort it out but they didn’t care.

There should be an option for zero stars.
We have reported to Trading Standards and have taken legal advice giving them seven days to send a credit note or we will commence action with Trading Standards and legal support.
We are a small store and received an 'estimate' for apparent previous use and the forthcoming year for nearly £900.
We confirmed no radio on premises and we would not be playing music. No reply. We then received an invoice for the amount and correspondence stating Urgent - legal action may follow. They create an account for you even when you have advised not necessary. We emailed again advising reply had not been received to our email, to be told they had made 'an offer' for a reduced amount but as we had not responded the full amount would be payable or legal action would be commenced! We had not received their so called 'offer' or any written correspondence via email or at our registered address. We emailed a number of times in response including noting referral to Trading Standards; their representative was unable to help, could not supply us with any proof for their claim and was not authorised to forward any of the supposed copy correspondence or withdrawn offer as under data protection! The only way to raise a query is to go through their long complaints procedure, during which time they may still take legal action. This company hides behind government regulation and knows small businesses don't have time to go through this procedure so many just pay to keep them off their back even when licence not required. We are all too busy being sales/HR/warehouse/accountants/
website admin/cleaners etc and from the reviews you can see the worry and distress they are causing.
We have been advised to only contact them by email and include delivered and read receipts.
The reviews for this company are appalling ... the trouble seems to escalate for those that enter into licences where their charges increase or they receive penalties for closing account even when they are no longer trading.
Recommend reporting problems to Trading Standards .. this is the only way to avoid being remotely bullied!

Do not use this company

Do not use this company! I have paid yearly for over 10 years. I received an invoice for the following year and I rang them to say not renewing for financial reasons. They said I had not given a months notice and there were still charges.
They sent the invoice deliberately too late for that very reason.
The people that work here must be soulless, I would be embarrassed to work for an organisation that is basically ripping people off and hitting small businesses hard.
Having read all the other poor reviews I wished I had know what a con they are and not given them my money over the past decade.

thief’s stealing a living!!!

absolutely disgusting company. they billed me a year and a half late plus billed me for the forthcoming year and expected me to pay for it up front, i told them no obviously as you can’t be expected to pay for something up front for a year they told me i had to under their terms and conditions i said nah don’t think so. so i took the full total divided it by 12 and decided to pay it over the year given its for a yearly licence and oh my goodness they have not left me alone, they even sent me to a debt collection agency even though im paying the bill for tvs in my pub that are ad free. bully’s and thief’s that are all stealing a living. reported them to the ombudsman and i need a final notice from prs for the ombudsman to continue and sure they won’t provide it they want to talk to discuss.
one thing i wish everyone would take head of is that you can absolutely pay this off over the whole year and if enough of us did this it would be so much more easier and there would be no need these idiots to use our monies to pay for debt collection companies

Just had an invoice from these people with a statement of answers we supposedly provided, them with! However we’ve had no conversation regarding our business.
Called them and staff rude and abrupt. We do not play music !! BEWARE!!

I am deeply suspicious of this company. Do they really hold a monopoly on the copyright of virtually all music composed throughout the world? It is hard to obtain any proper evidence from their solicitors. And just look at the number of terrible reviews. Hmmm.

PPL PRS is a joint venture set up by PPL and PRS for Music to simplify music licensing for businesses. PPL and PRS for Music represent the copyright owners (the artists, creators and publishers) of the majority of commercially available music in the UK and collect royalties on their behalf. Both organisations also hold partner agreements with worldwide collection organisations to collect royalties on behalf of international music creators.

Scam company ran by algorithms that only suit them

I was ripped off by them ! Then they sent a bailiff who said on the phone if you don’t pay in 10 minutes it will double. Needless to say to say it doubled and put me out of business . WE SHOULD ALL GET TOGETHER AND SUE THEM AS A GROUP !

The worst

I do not understand how this organisation is allowed to treat honest business people in this way, it’s a monopoly, you can’t switch.
Sending invoices too late to cancel because of the bogus months notice rule.
Dragging their heels then doubling prices because you’re two weeks overdue.
Keep ramping up the price of a licence with no alternative.
Constant hounding and threats from people who only give their first names.
Lying about what is said in telephone conversations.
We need to demand much higher standards it’s not right that we are abused like this.
I have been in the retail business 35 years, I pay all my bills, all my tax, I am following the rules regarding the music licence and have been paying music licenses for 35 years but still I am hounded and threatened.
It’s stressful and takes too much of my time.
Class action needed.

Legalised Scam

This organisation operates like a legalized scam, using sneaky methods to try to trap business owners. They persistently call my business every day, which I view as harassment, and they refuse to accept 'no' for an answer. You are under no legal obligation to provide this company with any information, and you do not have to allow them access to your premises if they happen to show up, which is highly unlikely. They make a living by trying to catch business owners off guard over the phone. The TPS should really look into this company. It's best to avoid any interaction with them. They would need substantial evidence to take legal action against you. With people working from home and hospitality businesses shutting down all over, they are hemorrhaging money.

Received fraudulent ‘evidence’ of playing music…

Received ‘evidence’ of playing music today in my small business - a picture of an MP3 player that we don’t own, not taken in our shop, and a sound file without any evidence it was taken in our business (it wasn’t; we don’t play music).

Threatening letters, unhelpful calls, told I’d be getting a bill. Will be forwarding this as well as own experience to regulators and consumer champions.

In terms of the reply from PLS - this is their standard response across many, many reviews all citing the same issues. I have phoned, to be told I will get a bill regardless of the lack of evidence of us playing music and, should I choose not to pay, this will be subject to legal action. I have completed their webform, twice, to explain my concerns. It's absolutely no use asking people to contact you, to look for a resolution, if the only resolution is an invoice for a service you don't use, and which uses faked evidence to generate.

Unregulated scam of a business

Unregulated scam of a business. Another phone call today, despite telling them last year that we have never played music in our B&B, and ceased trading over a year ago. How do we stop their constant harassment? Do they have no recording service of what people tell them? Sounds very similar to the people constantly ringing about the 'accident' that I recently had. Sick of them, now.

Edit 29/10/24. See below. They want me to contact them with details of my account! I've never had an account, you morons. I've never played music to anyone, I don't have a business. How do these crooks sleep at night?

Fraudulent scam artists.

Unregulated organisation taking huge profit from businesses, charging whatever they fancy.... We did the right thing and obtained a licence, for a tiny coffee shop (15 seats) to play background music, at a cost of £800per year (Which I have queried for the last three years)

With the cost of living crisis and trying to stay afloat we removed all of of our unnecessary outgoings, including having background music at our premises.

We cancelled upon receiving the renewal request, but have been told we must pay for another 12-months. Diabolical and have had threatening and bullying letters, emails, calls and now possible court proceedings and bailiffs to attend our coffee shop and remove goods.

We did not sign a contract, how can this legally be enforced I hope my Ombudsman and watch dog complaint will support a bigger investigation into PPL PRS.

Read the trust pilot reviews, this is not a one of case this is their standard working practices. You want to build faith and trust in customers doing the right thing and securing the relevant licences, do the right thing PPL PRS! My advice? Don't play music.

Awful

Awful, outrageous organisation. I cancelled my renewal (we don't plan to music next year) on the same day I received their invoice (for a period beginning 27 days later). They are now trying to claim/bully me into paying £230+ for a service I will not use and for a charging period that has not yet even begun. Ombudsman here we come if I hear from them again. These people need to be investigated - it's clear this is a pattern of behaviour that is not new. Conclusion/warning: don't try and do the right thing by engaging with PPL/PRS.

Just an awful company

Just an awful company. I needed a license 5 years, but have not needed one since 2020 - it seems they just auto renew and use bully tactics to try and obtain money. I would strongly urge any small business to swerve using these.

Absolutely disgraceful company

Absolutely disgraceful company, I closed my business over 20 months ago and contacted them at the time to confirm cancellation of my account, I have now been sent an aggressive debt collection letter asking me to pay for a service i cancelled, obviously i will be disputing this. Just nasty how they operate when you are trying to do the right thing. Avoid at all costs

Total scam, overcharged for a service I didn't want

I was asked to pay for a 2 months cancelation fee on a premises I no longer operate.

I already paid for the time I owned the business but they claimed because I didn't give them 2 months notice I'm still liable for the next 2 months even though I don't own or operate the business anymore. (I didn't know the date I was going to sell two months in advance so I couldn't have given notice even if I wanted to)

They can get stuffed, I would rather go to jail than pay for a music licence on a business I don't even own.

The whole thing is a total scam and people need to start standing up to these evil graspers, I will be writing to my MP.
