This is an awful organisation to deal with. Be careful as contract is annually recurring but they don’t tell you that at the outset . Renewal is by email sent AFTER the last day that you can send your month notice to avoid renewal which must be received by them before the start of the next year. If that isn’t sharp practice what is ?! Their customer agents say they have no authority other than enforce payment and collection.
I served notice 10 days before the start of the contract and resisted all their attempts to scare me into paying. I paid one month pro rata in lieu of the notice but they disputed this and put in the hands of collection agency. The contract is extremely poorly drafted and even more poorly interpreted by them. They even tried to palm me off stating they could offer me a shortened contract ( which they don’t advertise) but I would have to pay five months of the annual cost as that was their minimum amount? Again I questioned this contractually and as a business practice.
I ended up going through their complaints procedure getting to step 3
out of four, before they eventually conceded. Took over 5 months so don’t give up and they cannot proceed with collection agency while you are in their complaints process.
I have no issue with paying for music for the artists and was with them for 6 years but it was very expensive and
in hindsight I wish I had never had dealings with this company after the way they treated me. There are alternatives out there - look on the internet for companies that deal with non- licensed background music so don’t think you have to go with PRS/PRL

Scum. This is a Government backed organisation ripping businesses off with rude, disrespectful call handlers all working from home. Bullying tactics and offensive remarks from staff don’t make it a pleasant experience. After I received an abusive call later in the day after a telephone call with someone from pplprs I genuinely hate this company. They have caused me extreme stress by threatening comments and totally unhelpful. I have not played music in my salon since Jan 2023 yet because they have no proof I did this, I am told Thornley pay up or face the consequences. As if business wasn’t bad enough already.

Always found this company fairly easy to deal with in the past. We closed our business in January last year. Everyone notified and everyone paid up. We're happy to pay anything we owe but we don't owe anything, we've been sent down the Pannone route even after explaining the situation to PPL/PRS. We're going to mediation next, how has it got to this? Aggravation nobody needs. Very very disappointing. Don't feel the need normally to write reviews, but genuinely angry with PPL/PRS and agree totally with the attitude toward this company.

This company is a racket to extort money out of small businesses. We do not and never have, publicly broadcast music and yet we received invoices and threats of legal action. We stood our ground and refused to pay and after a lot of unnecessary stress we received credit notes. I’m sure a lot of small businesses would just pay up thinking they have no choice but unless you are playing music for your staff or customers, you should not pay, it is a scam.

SCAM! SCAM! SCAM! We were sent a letter saying that we play music at our store which is totally false. At first, we ignored their letters thinking its a scam and a waste of time but they started calling and sending letters numerous times. We finally contacted them and were given the most absurd explanation that one of their field operators had visited our store and reported that we play music. We asked them for a proof and they sent us a picture of a Bluetooth speaker that was in for charging port repair. They also sent us an audio file of a random song, the volume was so high and it could have been recorded anywhere to make a false claim that we were playing that music. We are a small kiosk and deal verbally with customers. We stopped responding to them only then to be contacted by a debt collecting agency. We explained to them how this company makes fraudulent claims against various businesses. This company has more than 97% of negative 1 star reviews which clearly explains how they operate.

Miss sold me this and I paid £288. Found out it is not appropriate for my needs.
Because there was no warning of renew sent out (done on purpose as they hope you forget) and in the small print you need 1 month to cancel (rubbish). They want £88.
Avoid like the plague

I called PPL PRS to renegotiate my yearly invoice with them. I explained that we no longer provided radios for guests in their bedrooms and that for some reason we were also being charged for the TV's in some of our meeting rooms. The TV's were being classed as music playing devices despite only being provided for guests to use for presentations.
Later that day they sent me an adjusted invoice with the bedroom radios and meeting room TV's removed.
Within 24 hours I was sent an email saying they had found evidence on the company website that we were providing radios for some guest bedrooms and were adding these to our invoice. These were old photos. I contacted them again and explained they were old photos and that these had been removed as I had mentioned the previous day.
PPL PRS don't trust what you tell them, or just don't listen.

Charging me for 11 Months of licence, because I did not give them a month notice.
I had already had a phone conversation with a representative, was told she would be in touch before the licence was due.
I own a small hotel, have been closed since November 2023,and now sold the place so not opening again. Have taken out a complaint with the Dispute Resolution Ombudsman.

Horrendous!!! We own a barbershop, only small, there’s only 2 people working in there, we play music and pay for the license. We pay weekly, and have done for 8 years. Over this period of time, every now and then the company have tried to enforce a 50% surcharge, for not paying IN ADVANCE!! Every time, they back down and we continue paying. They have now decided to take it to court-we defended ourselves, and the court suspended their action. Today we received another letter stating that they are going to continue with the court action.
So, they are going to take a micro business to court for paying their original invoice. Wow, just wow- what a bunch of scammers.

Horrible underhand company. Good at replying to all negative feedback but horrible at actually dealing with legitimate concern from business owners. They and the scamming govt are getting away with so much. They milking the public to pay their low scum execs fat salary. I hope some musician come along one day to sue them for collecting royalty payment on their music and not actually remmiting same to the musician. It's all Scam...backed by the govt. I asked a musician from Nigeria if he got paid by these scammers and their response was....who are they ? Yet these scmmers claim to represent all musicians ....b a s t a r d s

If only a negative score were possible. Please see my 1 star rating as having a minus prefix & add a couple of zero's after the 1 star. Despite several phone calls & emails, PPL PRS still insist we have an unpaid invoice for our pub. This despite assurances from them that they have the payment logged & pending & the funds having left our bank account on the 28th March! We have been promised the matter is resolved yet still get a further invoice for £114 because of them saying the payment is outstanding, coupled with the threat of a debt recovery service being used against us. Just wish someone in PPL PRS could stop shoving crayons up their nose & sort this out. A whole new level of administrative incompetence at play here.

In response to the generic reply to my review asking for account details, I ask simply, how is this going to be any different to the numerous times I have contacted you recently & furnished you with such information? You already have all the information you could possibly need & I already have all the hollow promises that this will be sorted that I need. Perhaps if you paid as much attention to your obvious shortcomings as you apparently do to the negativity that surrounds you on Trustpilot, we may get somewhere.

Would be zero stars if that was possible. Sold my business and rang happy to pay the month we were the owners. Told I have to give a months notice which is a little impossible seeing as we wasn’t sure when the sale would complete. Company is being closed down and advised them happy to pay the month but not the notice period to which they said they’d hand it over to a debt collection agency. Now being hounded by calls from them but when we answer there is no one at the other end.

This company is an absolute scam backed up by legislation however there is no evidence from PPL / PRS of what their charges cover and where the 90% of the tariff fees go to? I have smashed my amp after last year when they just sent an invoice which was in dispute to their solicitor and I ended up with a CCJ from small claims in Northampton and ive just received another letter from their solicitor and yet again another set of paperwork from Northampton small claims court which I have replied to but my dispute gets ignored and I just get processed as yet another bad debt. I have tried multiple times even today to get some compromise from PPL PRS I simply do not understand why my small sqr mtrs floorspace of business 39 sq mtrs attracts £780 for playing ad hoc background music, from time to time. Hence ive taken out the amp. Ive told them in writing and through Northampton courts and all I got back was the solicitor was going ahead with prosecution.
....and i know the manager of a local hotel that has 28 rooms plus bar / restaurant and hosts live music events and he pays £780 !!!!!!
Something stinks here.

Government funded extortion scam!
3 cold calls from various call centre staff implying we play/perform live music at my office. Am an estate agency, not a social club!! Absolutely ridiculous... But they have "proof".....
They kindly supplied photo of one of my staff sitting at her desk (not proof and a infringement of privacy) a blank screen audio recording of Mariah Carey singing her little lungs out...no evidence of our phones ringing, that never stop and no meta data to prove anything, despite requests to provide so and thirdly a lovely picture of a old radio sitting on a chair. Clearly not our office or furniture or carpet, or decor etc etc etc. Requested meta data to prove origin of this fictitious "evidence"....guess what, no response as its all made up and fictitious. Are this companies bosses aware of what their staff are up to...who knows??
Have now received an invoice, which of course will not be paid and has been deleted. Asked then to cease and desist and if not, will pass this onto my solicitors and my MP.
